  1. Is the pre-game show tonight and the game tomorrow?
  2. This guy is sure milking his TV time.
  3. What's with the extra day off this year? Something to do with the extra playoff spot, I think (or am imagining). nah, because that was scheduled before the playoff spot was added (this has been brought up with the worry about ties at the end of the season, since they didn't necessarily leave time) It was always either 3 or 4, I think they just decided to make it uniform for everyone. Not exactly an arbitrary decision; and it does have something to do with larger changes. It's included in the current CBA, albeit for 2013 to 2016. E. 15/15 Realignment Beginning with the 2013 championship season, the Office of the Commissioner will prepare a schedule based on the following criteria: (A) There will be no more than 20 Interleague games. The bulk of Interleague play will be based on a rotating division format, but may include no more than one series against a prime inter-league rival unless they play two two-game series. In the years when the corresponding divisions are scheduled for Interleague play, two series of three or fewer games against the prime inter-league rival may be played. ( Each Club will play no fewer than 17 games against each Club in its division if the schedule is 181 days or more. Each Club will play no fewer than 18 games against each Club in its division if the schedule is 180 days or fewer. (C) The original schedule may contain one home split doubleheader for each Club. (D) The All-Star break will contain four days for all Clubs. The extra day off seems compensation for the squeezing in of potential scheduled day-night doubleheaders and other complications arising from daily Interleague nonsense to come. How are we gonna live without having the MFYs brighten out lives six times a season? Revisions to inter-league play mean 3 games against another division in the AL, plus 3 or 4 games against your "rival" EXCEPT every three years, when the Mets are back to 6 against the MFYs when the NL East plays the AL East. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/50910/official-subway-series-to-4-games-max My prediction: MLB screws with the schedule so the Mets/MFY series are Saturday-Sunday which means somehow playing a series which ends on Friday.
  4. With the off day on Monday, they don't need a 5th starter until the 21st (see above). This could be a key series and they're screwing around. If they want to start Batista instead of Harvey, fine but do it against the Dodgers.
  5. Geez--tweets say Batista next Wednesday in WSH. Good idea: it's not like the Nationals are in first place and this could be a very important series. Go ahead and use the suckiest guy on the pitching staff.
  6. "Ceetar also knows his shit!"
  7. seawolf17 wrote: Very solid chance that I will find myself at Whatever Nationals Stadium is called on Tuesday night. If so, seawolf17, then please stop by section 113, row S, 15-17.
  8. Perhaps this thread should merge with the "Poll: Starter Next" thread as they are each now discussing the rotation.
  9. Perhaps the following, given the fact that they want to give Johan extra time for his ankle to recover: 7/13: Niese 7/14: R.A. 7/15: Young 7/16: OFF 7/17: Johan 7/18: Niese 7/19: R.A. 7/20: Young 7/21: New Guy UPDATE: Rubin says "bmfc1 knows his shit!": Collins indicated the revised rotation probably now has Jon Niese starting Friday in Atlanta, followed by R.A. Dickey on Saturday and Chris Young on Sunday. There is the potential for Johan Santana to start Sunday instead, but Collins wants to see how Santana responds to Thursday's throwing session during a workout at Turner Field.
  10. Congratulations to Buffalo Bison Val Pascucci for winning the AAA HR Derby. As we say on Passover, "next year at Citi Field." http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120709&content_id=34791678&vkey=news_t422&fext=.jsp&sid=t422
  11. National League: 1. Carlos Gonzalez, DH 2. Melky Cabrera, CF 3. Ryan Braun, LF 4. Joey Votto, 1B 5. Carlos Beltran, RF 6. Buster Posey, C 7. Pablo Sandoval, 3B 8. Dan Uggla, 2B 9. Rafael Furcal, SS SP: Matt Cain American League: 1. Derek Jeter, SS 2. Robinson Cano, 2B 3. Josh Hamilton, LF 4. Jose Bautista, RF 5. Prince Fielder, 1B 6. Adrian Beltre, 3B 7. David Ortiz, DH 8. Mike Napoli, C 9. Curtis Granderson, CF SP: Justin Verlander
  12. Well put, soupcan. Another way MLB is hypocritical is the requirement that each team have one player selected (it's selected, not on the team as the Marlins won't have a player in the game). If the game "counts", then pick the best players. We don't need an Astro or an Athletic just for the sake of equity.
  13. Fman99--you're being too kind... why limit it to a grease fire? Any kind of fire would do.
  14. Matt Cain v Justin Verlander.
  15. CPF note: since the NL won last year, shouldn't this year's IGT be started by the same person? UPDATE: "What's that, G-Fafif? I started it? You're kidding? I had no idea."
  16. Even in retirement, LaRussa is a jerk.
  17. You and every other Mets fan can make it up to David in '13 as there should be a drive to make sure that he gets the start at home.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Thole looked like absolute crap, barely hustling to the bag. I noticed this, too. It wasn't mentioned on TV but it should have been.
  19. At least it was over quickly. What a stinker and it's the last game until Friday.
  20. If they trade Turner, who does the post-game pie duty?
  21. We keep seeing the commercial with the players saying that they're into the game. Sure. I hate to think that this screwing around will hurt the Mets chances of home field advantage in the WS.
  22. If the All-Star game is so important that it settles home field advantage for the WS, and Commissioner Bud has said that he wants everybody to play, then Desmond should be playing unless he's on the DL. It's nonsense that he can play every inning since April 20 but can't play 2 innings in a game that "counts." He didn't even bother to announce it after today's game ("uh-oh, I aggravated my thingy.") If Selig doesn't fine Desmond or the Nationals, then he's even more of a ball-less, incompetent, stooge than I thought and I consider him to be on a par with Bowie Kuhn.
  23. Ceetar wrote: Big game today guys, I want all these All-Star Break stories and playoff break downs to have the NYM on them. Agreed. I don't want to have the last game until Friday be a loss.
  24. Nieuwenhuis needs to go back to AAA to play everyday and try to cut down on his Adam Dunn-like strikeout numbers. Bay's return sets this up and could possibly help the team against LHP.
  25. Wuss Ian Desmond is skipping the All-Star Game to rest his tender oblique but he still hit a homerun today. So much for Bud's edict that everyone has to play if selected. Michael Bourn is his replacement. As @AdamKilgoreWP points out, Ian Desmond has played every inning since 4/20. Yet Nats believe 1 inning off bench in ASG is too risky. Sad.
