  2. Stroman and Rosario didn't work out yesterday. Stroman tweeted that he'll be at CF on Sunday. Update: Stroman is "ready to rock": https://twitter.com/STR0/status/1279392422942969856https://twitter.com/STR0/status/1279392422942969856
  3. =Fman99 post_id=39841 time=1593828421 user_id=86] At least the Covid shut down their 2020 victory lap as defending champions way short. So there's that.
  4. From Tim Britton in The Athletic: [strickland's] yielded nine long balls in 13 postseason innings in his career — compared with 23 in more than 250 regular-season frames. Let's hope that we have a postseason involving the Mets so we can be concerned about this issue.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The runner is whoever is in the lineup position prior to that of the batter leading off the inning. Sigh. If they were going to do this then I wish that they would have given us one or two "normal" extra innings. You might see this: two outs in the 9th, tie-game, no one on, Luis (the Mets manager, it's been a while) sends up Johneshwy Fargas to bat for Wilson Ramos. If Ramos makes the 3d out you don't want him planted on 2d in the 10th so you PH with the fastest player in the organization. If Fargas gets on, fine (of course). If not, you put him in the OF, Nido at C, hope the game is still tied, and then you have Fargas on 2B to start the 10th.
  6. David Wright has a piece of VitaminWater: [bLOCKQUOTE]instead of taking cash to endorse the company's flavored water brands, the third baseman, who says he started drinking Glaceau's juiced-up beverages in the minors, took a 0.5 percent ownership stake in the company. [/bLOCKQUOTE] https://www.huffpost.com/entry/david-wright-50-cent-make_n_49441https://www.huffpost.com/entry/david-wright-50-cent-make_n_49441
  7. CF: That's valid but this Pete was supposed to go earlier. Keith Law, smart guy at The Athletic, had the Mets taking a college SP because his mock guessed that they wouldn't find the bat they wanted still available at 19. A few teams, including Boston, made surprise picks so C-A was still there (Law had him at 12).
  8. Do the Mets get Timothy Busfield, too? Molly Knight has a fine profile of Pete Crow-Armstrong in The Athletic. He's a mindful, thoughtful person who thinks about more than baseball--just like another Pete we know: https://theathletic.com/1865359/2020/06/10/an-mlb-managers-dream-the-promise-and-awakening-of-pete-crow-armstrong/https://theathletic.com/1865359/2020/06/10/an-mlb-managers-dream-the-promise-and-awakening-of-pete-crow-armstrong/ If you don't subscribe, I've brought a clip: [bLOCKQUOTE]I ask Crow-Armstrong about how he feels about his big night. “I'm super excited. Me and everybody else in this position have been working our asses off our whole lives for this moment, and it feels right to celebrate,” he says. He then takes a long, deep breath. “But at the same time, there are so many more important things happening in the world right now,” he adds. “I find myself trying to make space for the joy in my own personal life that is happening tonight, but tomorrow it's back to what matters. I hope we don't lose the momentum.”[/bLOCKQUOTE]
  9. The EPIX documentary was far superior to "Echo". At 3 hours, it went into many more acts, such as Love, and much more detail, including the Manson Murders and the 2d Generation, including The Eagles. It was also better as it didn't have Jakob Dylan.
  10. I've had it all wrong. I thought that the owners were greedy and making a fortune but that's not true according to the owner of the Cardinals: [bLOCKQUOTE]The industry isn't very profitable to be quite honest, and I think they understand that. But they think, you know, the owners are hiding profits, and you know there's been a little bit of a distrust there.[/bLOCKQUOTE] So the players should play the rest of the season for minimum wage and when the ballparks open please raise the ticket prices to help those less fortunate than us. https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/06/09/cardinals-owner-bill-dewitt-jr-the-industry-isnt-very-profitable-to-be-quite-honest/https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/06/09/cardinals-owner-bill-dewitt-jr-the-industry-isnt-very-profitable-to-be-quite-honest/

  14. Travis Taijeron appears to be the most recognizable name from today's purge: https://twitter.com/mikemayerMMO/status/1266156685728645120https://twitter.com/mikemayerMMO/status/1266156685728645120
  15. They're not going to play minor league ball this year (other than the "taxi squad" players that aren't on the active roster but have to be ready) and next year each franchise will have 2 or 3 fewer minor league affiliates so they might as well cut the players who aren't prospects now. That's not me, that's Manfred if he told you the truth.

  19. Tonight is the finale of the fantastic show "Brockmire" and I brought a relevant clip (at around :45): [YOUTUBE] [/YOUTUBE]
  20. https://mykbostats.com/players/foreignhttps://mykbostats.com/players/foreign "MLB fans tuning in may recognize some familiar faces; as we covered here two weeks back, there are more than 30 former big league players slated to play in the KBO this season. The Dinos (Aaron Altherr, Mike Wright, Drew Rucinski) and Lions (Seunghwan Oh, Tyler Saladino, Ben Lively, David Buchanan) have seven such players. There are some well-known names in the coaching ranks, too — Matt Williams will manage the KIA Tigers this year, and Julio Franco is the hitting coach for the Lotte Giants."
  21. Above everything else, I'd ban "EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS!" because it bugs the crap out of me.
  22. I always liked hearing Pete McCarthy's show which included a guest. A 7-Line Production would be a good extension of his brand.
  23. "what's wrong with CBS? it's fine." No it ain't. The Mets are shoe-horned into the news format. Even on Limbaugh Radio there was time for the very excellent pre-pre-game show and post-post-game show with Pete McCarthy. On CBS, there is a pre-pre that is awful-awful (sponsored by the Barnaby Jones Medical Center, or something like that) and after the post-game show they are out of there as fast as possible. We need--no we DESERVE--a radio affiliate which gives us a forum to call-in and complain about double-switches and pitching changes. I'd be happy if the Mets worked it out so that there was a call-in/talk-show on the internet but that seems to be too much trouble for the Mets to consider.
  24. I actually don't hate this IF it's after "a few" (2, 3?) normal extra innings and only in a shortened season where the pitchers don't have enough time to get ready. I prefer it to ties and having position players pitch.
  25. If a manager wants to put 7 players in the OF that should be his option.
