  2. Good luck, David! Honestly, I feel this is best for all. Hopefully, the surgery helps David's pain and long term health. Plus, the Mets can commit to the rest of the season without him.
  3. I would love to see what this lineup could do if it could stay entact for a few games straight.
  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: But if he's released, the Rockies are on the hook and the team that signs him only has to pay the major-league minimum salary. That's what I was thinking. I'd be fine with trying him out in that scenario. He'd have as much speed as anyone else on the team and has the potential to get on base...two things the Mets lack even at full strength. If he flops, he didn't cost any prospects and a minimal amount of cash.
  5. If he's released, can't he sign with any team for a minimal amount (obviously triggering a void of his previous contract in the process)? I'm not sure what the chances are of him getting released, but I'd let Reyes play third for the vet minimum if Wright is out the remainder of the year. What is there to lose? I'd bet Jose would love to play in NYC again.
  6. I kinda hopes he opts for surgery. Not that I want him to be out, but it would at least give the team a definite answer as to their needs for the rest of the year rather than spending the summer with questions on if and when he will be available.
  7. The Pirates have shuffled the decks by putting Cole on the DL. Jameson Taillon will be on the hill for Pittsburgh tonight. His only other ML start came last week via the Mets (Ty Kelly took him deep). The Pirates have TBA scheduled to pitch for both Wed and Thurs nights.
  8. Great report...and it was great to see you too! I got to the Sunday game as well. The temps and crowd were much better...I just wish the play of the Mets was.
  9. Juan Uribe injured after taking 106 mph grounder in the groin
  10. Collins did not fly back with the team and will stay in the hospital overnight for observation.
  11. Another pitiful performance but cooler temps today than yesterday. The Mets are now 4.5 games back in the East and have fallen out of the first wildcard spot.
  12. I had a good time with the 7 Line folks....met some new people and made fast friends. Taking over the bar before the game and parading into the stadium was more fun than sitting in the bleacher section. We got all the Mets to respond to a roll call in the bottom of the first (Yanqui-esqe for sure, but still fun to see in a visiting ballpark). The game got stinky in a hurry, though. It was very awesome to meet MGIM!

  14. That was a very fun game...even if not very well played. Lots of Mets fans in town, I'm guessing due to the 7 Line game on Saturday. Gelbs checking Twitter pre-game. I'm not sure what was up with these ass-eaters. Scored seats in front of the on deck circle. Sleeve of the guy sitting next to me.
  15. I'm not sure that stink washes off so easily.
  16. The Mets have now won their first season series against the Brewers since 2008. Let's make it a sweep!
  17. Link to previous KTE for 5/20 - 5/22 series It has been two and half weeks since the Mets swept Milwaukee in New York. Since then, the Brewers have won 10 of 15 games and have gotten steadier pitching from their starting rotation. The Mets meanwhile have won only 7 of 15 games since they last saw Milwaukee. The two teams meet up for a 4 game series beginning this evening at Miller Park. STARTING PITCHING MATCHUPS: Thursday: RHP Bartolo Colon (4-3, 3.27) vs. RHP Jimmy Nelson (5-4, 3.43), 8:10 p.m. ET The Mets did not face Nelson in their earlier series. He has become the best starter that Milwaukee has had in 2016, though he did get charged with 6 ER in 4 IP in his last start vs. Philadelphia. Nelson is 1-1 in 3 career starts against the Mets with a 1.80 ERA. Friday: RHP Matt Harvey (4-8, 4.95) vs. RHP Junior Guerra (3-1, 3.61), 8:10 p.m. ET New York also missed Guerra at Citi Field. He has been a reliable starter for Milwaukee who has allowed 3 ER or fewer in his last 5 starts. Guerra has never faced the Mets. Saturday: RHP Logan Verrett (3-3, 3.22) vs. RHP Wily Peralta (3-7, 6.79), 4:10 p.m. ET The Mets got to Peralta for 3 ER in 5.2 back on May 20th. Peralta was considered the Brewer ace coming into the season, but with his ERA approaching 7, he may be the one who is moved from the rotation when Matt Garza returns from injury in the coming weeks. Sunday: LHP Steven Matz (7-2, 2.69) vs. RHP Zach Davies (4-3, 4.29), 2:10 p.m. ET Zach Davies gave up 4 ER in 5.1 innings on May 21st in New York. Davies has won his 3 starts since then with a 1.74 ERA and 18 K to just 3 BB. The major change in the Brewer bullpen is that Chris Capuano (who was great in his 2 innings of relief vs. New York on May 20th) has gone onto the DL with elbow inflammation (which he said he first felt in his 2 inning performance against the Mets). Will Smith is back from an LCL tear that caused him to miss the first 2 months of the season. He is an above average lefty for Craig Counsell to use late in games as a compliment to their closer Jeffess who is having a very nice season himself. OFFENSE: The Brewers employ pretty much the same lineup that the Mets saw a couple of weeks ago. The only major difference is that Kirk Nieuwenhuis is scuffling and is just 11 for his last 66. The alternative CF, Keon Broxton, is not doing much better as he is batting just .200 (4/20) since the Mets last faced Milwaukee. Ryan Braun is second to Daniel Murphy in the NL batting average race at .328 (though he is hitting just .227 (10/44) since his one start vs. New York on May 22nd ). Chris Carter is hitting just .180 but has 3 HR in his past 15 games. SS Jonathan Villar is batting .364 with 4 home runs since the Mets last faced the Brewers and Jonathan Lucroy continues to play steady catcher and is hitting .380 with 3 HRs in his past 14 games. I have tickets for the games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If my softball game is rained out tonight (50/50 chance), I’ll head to Milwaukee to watch the series opener as well. I’ll be sitting with the 7 Line on Saturday and plan to meet up with MGIM who is attending Saturday’s game as well. I’m hoping the fight they showed last night propels them to an excellent back end to this current road trip.
  18. While they didn't play perfectly, the team showed more fight in one game today than they did in two games yesterday. I appreciate that.
  19. Does Kelly Johnson take Ty Kelly's 25 man roster spot (and number)?
  20. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: It's a challenge being an out-of-market fan. It was really tough when we first moved to the Midwest in 1990, relying on box scores and a paragraph in USA Today to find out about my Mets while surrounded by Tigers fans. The 'net has changed all of that, of course. I just wanted to say "thank you" to the friends in this little community. I love having the opportunity to not just talk baseball, but Mets baseball with people who are just as passionate as I am, or even more so. I feel MGIM's pain and echo his sentiment. This is my favorite place on the web.
  21. Bummer. Given all the injuries, I am pretty OK taking 2 of 3 vs. a divisionial foe. Especially with another Harvelous start from Matt.
  22. I was driving to my in-laws today and was listening to the Marlins feed on the radio. The announcer for was telling a story about how Neil Walker's father was scheduled to take the ill-fated plane trip to Nicaragua with Roberto Clemente but cancelled the plan in the last minutes. I hadn't heard that story before. Have I been living in a bubble? Must be freaky for Neil.
  23. WALK-OFFS: 1. New York RHP Zack Wheeler is expected to throw 30 pitches on Saturday as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Mets revise projection, eye mid-July return for Zack Wheeler Not wholly unexpected, IMO. Probably a better target than July 1.
  24. It would help if we had a better gauge of when d'Arnaud and/or Duda will be returning. While options are limited outside the org at 3B, the offense could still be upgraded further at the 1B and C positions depending on need. This might mask the overall effect of internal options at 3B. I would still love to land a guy like Lucroy who can play both C and 1B, but he is going to cost players (most likely major league pitching). Sandy is going to have a lot to weigh in the coming weeks and we will see how desperate the team becomes with the knowledge that Cespedes (and prolly Walker) are likely gone at the end of 2016. I fear this year's road trip that ends in Milwaukee is going to mirror the road trip last year that ended in Milwaukee (11 runs scored in 8 games with only 1 victory).
  25. Byrd in March of 2013 said, not wrote: “It was a stupid move on my part,” Byrd told WFAN hosts Marc Malusis and Kim Jones. “It was the first time in my career that I didn’t pay attention to what I was taking, didn’t check the lists properly. I said it right in the beginning, right when I got here in camp: You have to be an idiot to test positive, and I’m part of the group. I’m one of the dummies out there who tested positive. But at the same time, in life, you have to embrace the negatives along with the positives.” http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/03/28/marlon-byrd-regrets-stupid-move-is-determined-to-reward-mets-for-trusting-him/
