  1. The Reds are playing some really bad baseball today.
  2. . First pitch [bigpurple:bhw31rty]KABOOM[/bigpurple:bhw31rty] from Jose. 1-0 good guys.
  3. I'm speculating he'd come back to the Mets on a cheap-o one year deal with an option.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Cecchini looks like he got the call primarily due to Walker's injury. Just played 2B for the 1st time last week. Gary and Ron were saying Terry specifically mentioned during his pregame presser yesterday that Cecchini was called up for his bat. It doesn't sound like Cecchini's D has been impressing anyone.
  5. Centerfield wrote: I worry about Montero in this small ball park. I wonder if it'll make him want to nibble even more, and increase his walk total. Let's score 23 runs just to be safe. I agree. The replace-Mets pitchers have been great, but I feel like this team needs to lean on the offense down the stretch so that the margins aren't as thin for the young pitchers. 23 runs would be awesome, but I'd be cool with 15.
  6. TransMonk wrote: Dislike. A marginal upgrade over Wilmer, so a waste of money in my mind. If nothing else, it improves the offensive depth on the infield, but does little to help the D. I also voted dislike, but still feel like this a rare one I called correctly. My folly in thinking on Cabrera was guessing that Wright would be healthier in 2016...and I have had no problem with Asdrubal's D. In the end, I very much like that he is around.
  7. Chad Ochoseis wrote: The 2:15 includes taxiing time and time at the gate, and has a bit of fat in it. Actual time in flight is probably just about 90 minutes. Looks like this is the case. Gelbs said during the game today that the flight from NYC to Cincy took off at 1:12am and landed at 2:33am.
  8. Blame MLB more than ESPN. They either need to put restrictions on which games the network can grab for their Sunday Night showcase or they have to force Cincy to change the start time of Monday's game. Per the CBA: ARTICLE VSection C (9) Getaway games shall not be scheduled or rescheduled to start later than 5 P.M. if either Club is required to travel for a day game, scheduled the next day, between cities in which the in-flight time is more than 1 1/2 hours. In each season, the championship season schedule may contain six exceptions to the rule in the immediately preceding sentence provided that the traveling Club is traveling to Chicago to play the Cubs and the in-flight time does not exceed 2 1/2 hours. Flight time LGA to CVA = 2:15 on average Also (bolding mine): ARTICLE VSection C (19) With respect to the rescheduling of any game, except for games rescheduled as split doubleheaders as set forth in Section C(1)*, any scheduling or rescheduling rule set forth in this Article V may be waived by the secret ballot vote of a majority of the Players on the Club(s) that would be in violation of the rule. Separate votes shall be required with regard to each game for which a waiver is sought. A waiver granted pursuant to this provision, as well as a waiver granted by the Association pursuant to Section C(1)*, shall not constitute a precedent with regard to future waiver requests. With respect to the rescheduling of any such game, and all games rescheduled pursuant to Section C(1)*, the Club(s) shall consult with the Association concerning the actual date and time of such rescheduled game. The Club(s) shall use best efforts to notify the Association in advance of notifying the Players on the Club(s) affected. This leads me to believe that the Mets players signed off on the quick turnaround, no? *Section C(1) are the rules for split doubleheader scheduling.
  9. To me he looks better...making an effort to drive the ball the other way, which has always been what Keith has been preaching. He's not laying off everything that is out of the strikezone, but his approach is refined, IMO.
  10. Just now realizing that Page 1 was about next year and not this one. *facepalm* I would still put any extra Cranebucks I had lying around on Walker for OD '17 pending a promising recovery.
  11. Seemed to get behind on every batter last night. Tough to deGrominate when you''re consistently behind 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1.
  12. Really? I'm thinking that if his back surgery and rehab is deemed successful that he would be the odds on favorite to be the starting Mets 2Bman in 2017. If not him, then who?
  13. *I was originally going to put this in the "Walker's Back" thread, but... I've often remembered 2009 as being a year where I thought injuries really impacted the team's ability to compete. 2011 was a high injury year as well, but I'm not sure expectations were as high. I know there are "official" team-by-team charts of time missed and payroll lost that actually gauges the impact of injuries to a team, but to my eyeballs, I have to believe that 2015 is becoming arguably the most injury impacted year in recent memory. I pulled these 2009 and 2011 stats of the interwebs, but the 2016 numbers are mine. 2009 Jose Reyes: Out 5/22-end of season Carlos Delgado: Out 5/11-end of season Carlos Beltran: Out 6/22-9/6 Angel Pagan: Out beginning of season-5/15, 6/1-7/9 Johan Santana: Out 8/21-end of season Tim Redding: Out beginning of season to 5/17 John Maine: Out 6/7-9/12 Oliver Perez: Out 5/3-7/7, 8/24-end of season 2011 Jose Reyes: Out 7/3-7/18, 8/9-8/29 David Wright: Out 5/16-7/21 Angel Pagan: Out 4/22-5/26 Daniel Murphy: Out 8/8-end of season Ike Davis: Out 5/12-end of season Jason Bay: Out beginning of season-4/20 Johan Santana: Out entire season Chris Young: Out 5/2-end of season Jonathon Niese: Out 8/24-end of season 2016 Zach Wheeler: Out entire season Josh Edgin: Out beginning of season-8/3 Travis d'Arnaud: Out 4/26-6/20 Lucas Duda: Out 5/21-end of season David Wright: Out 5/28-end of season Juan Lagares: Out 6/15-7/1, 7/29-end of season Jim Henderson: Out 6/19-8/22 Matt Harvey: Out 7/4-end of season Jonathon Niese: Out 8/23-end of season Neil Walker: Out 8/28-end of season Also in 2016: short DL stints for Flores, Reyes, Cabrera and Cespedes...Cabrera and Cespedes with lingering injuries for weeks (if not months). Honestly, when you add in the steps back that Conforto took at a ML level and the decline of last year's offensive MVP Granderson, I'm pretty darn proud that the Mets still have a legitimate shot at the Wild Card.
  14. Can we make a Frankenstein player out of the good portions of the backs and necks from Wright/Duda/Walker?
  15. From page one of this thread: [fimg=1500:1y9uxo7y]http://i.imgur.com/zcKcrSD.png[/fimg:1y9uxo7y]

  17. I've realized two somewhat conflicting things over the past two weeks: 1. I forgot how exciting Reyes is to watch. It helps that he is definitely a catalyst at the top of the lineup and that he has been putting up better numbers than most expected, but the effect of a productive lead off hitter is very noticeable. 2. I do feel slightly more guilty than I thought I would in rooting for him. I stand by all that I posted in this thread last month, but I'd be lying if I said my appreciation for what he provides to the team I love is not soured by his personal conduct last year. I read this article in the Times over the weekend. The situation is not apples-to-apples, but I think it is a decent idea (even if it comes from a Cubs fan). While there is still no excuse for what Jose did, finding a way to turn his production into a positive step for the future makes sense to me as BOTH a Mets fan and an opponent of domestic violence. I pledge to donate $10 for each run Reyes scores this season to Safe Horizon. I will do the same in 2017 if his option is picked up.

  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: Would it kill Jay Bruce to have a good game? Would it? Especially against an illiterate pitcher? One of the nice things I find about Bruce right now was that he was one of the most excited in celebrating with Yo last night after the walk off. Now, that doesn't count for anything in the box score, but it shows me something about him as a teammate and human. A guy in his position (a decent player who played his whole career in a smaller town and is traded to a big market contender and then suddenly stops producing altogether) might just as easily have gone moping after sitting two out of three games. I'm rooting for him to come up big soon. For many, many reasons.
  20. Whatever. This team has a lot of 2007 in them.
  21. I'm not sure the SI cover jinx is as relevant now that they are mostly regional. While these Metsies were cover boys in the NYC area, I was looking at Cubs that week in my neck of the woods. They seem to be doing just fine.
  22. I was one of the couple of people who went with the indifferent option. The only things that kept me from dislike were Bastardo going the other way and this making the Walker trade look that much better. I won't miss watching Niese pitch...again.
  23. bmfc1 wrote: In "The Night Of", Stone (John Turturro) has a son named after Dwight Gooden. Last week's episode had Turturro's character wearing a Yankees sweatshirt at the gym. I'm hoping he didn't name his kid after the Yankee version of Doc.
  24. Switched from indifferent to dislike. The more I think about this trade, the more it seems like the most desperate move Sandy has made in his years here. I have my suspicions that ownership may have meddled in this one. I wasn't that fond of Bruce in Cincy, but I worry a lot about his ability to produce in NYC.
