  1. Here's the way I see it: 2012 - Fun, surprising, but overacheiving team. Hope to finfish .500. Re-up David in the offseason. 2013 - Harvey comes up, the young kids on offense get one more year to prove they can be everyday players. Maybe a deadline deal if the team is as good. Hope to play meaningful games in September. 2014 - Wheeler comes up. The Bay and Santana contracts go away (somewhat offset by Wright, but there will be more cash than there is now). Fred opens up the checkbook to find FA replacements for the youngish players that aren't quite cutting it. Hopefully, Harvey, Wheeler, Niese (maybe Dickey) is as good as anything the Nats throw up. Hope to content for the division. If Tejada, Thole, Duda, Davis, Newie, etc. aren't the answers by the end of next year, then they could be replaced, but I think they all get the opportunity to succeed in 2013. Murphy is the wildcard. His being traded would never surprise me. Even if it were today. Also, I would love to someday have Beato, Parnell and Mejia in the bullpen and feel REALLY good about it. But bullpens are a tough group to predict.
  2. Hell...at this point I'd let Ankiel try out in the bullpen.
  3. Per Metsblog, TC has "suggested" that it'll be Miggy on Saturday.

  5. I'd wait until the west coast trip. It gives Harvey a couple more AAA starts on regular rest. It takes away the home-town hype. And we may know a lot more about where this team stands after the 6 games with the Nats.
  6. I agree with JCL. It will be sink or swim for the next 9 days.
  7. I watched most of the Bisons game and was left unconvinced that he can thrive in the MLB. Yes, he's a warm body...but I don't think he can live up to the hype right now. I would tend to agree with giving someone else the Saturday start and bringing him up out west if he's going to be called up at all. Give him a start or two to set his feet before throwing him to the home crowd lions.
  8. Whoa!!! I think pizza is pretty a pretty national thing. If you ever visit, I'll have my wife make you some from scratch. Her's is the best...but we will probably end up with delivery tomorrow. Oh...and they'll be beer tomorrow. That shouldn't be as shocking.
  9. I'm going to be taking advantage of the free MLB Extra Innings preview this week and will watch this one from the comfort of my living room couch rather than the comfort of my office chair. My old roommate from 1995 will be visiting and watching the game with me. He was originally from Bayonne and is the only other Wisconsin Mets fan I've spent anytime with. He has lived in California for several years, but it will be nice to catch up over some pizza and a Mets game.

If you click on your player, it will give you his game logs for his past 10. I was surprised to see that I'm in 4th place to start the day. I still feel like I'm going to be in sell mode, though. LWFS should be talking to all of us about selling his youth for our stars.
  11. I would have no problem locking him up through age 40.
  12. Other than making it more music-video-esque, this version did little to build on the Swedish version of the film (where the Swedish characters actually spoke, uh, Swedish). Can Americans truly not read subtitles, or was this version only necessary in order to include McDonalds and Apple product placements between the scenes of rape, incest and torture? Meh.

And I can think of worse veteran back-ends to mop up every fifth day while Harvey, Wheeler, Niese and whoever go through their growing pains on their way to being the most dominant staff in the NL over the next couple of years.
  14. Christ on a cracker.
  15. SHaM record: 40-36 SHaMVP: Wright Most wins: Santana Most saves: Francisco Most HRs: Duda Highest BA: Tejada
  16. Four days is too long. I feel like a junkie.
  17. I realized after watching the first 5 innings of the All Star game on FOX that it was the first FOX baseball game I had seen all year. I'm fairly sure it may be my last.
  18. His divisional rival pedigree aside, Kevin Millwood could be a cheap alternative in trade to fill out the rotation this season. The guy is only making $1M this season for a Seattle team that is going nowhere and is a free agent at the end of the year. He's got a 2.38 ERA and a .197 BAA in his last 10 starts. Maybe one of the AAA guys (not named Harvey if he's not ready) can step up...but if they're serious about trying to make the post-season, I'd like to see a more known quantity step in.
  19. http://www.channel3000.com/sports/Greinke-to-start-3-games-in-a-row-for-Brewers/-/1612/15462226/-/j2pha4z/-/index.html Greinke to start 3 games in a row for Brewers Third start will make franchise history MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke is set to make franchise history Friday. He is scheduled to be the team's starting pitcher for the third straight game. Greinke started last Saturday's game, but was ejected in the first inning. The umpire threw him out after he thought Greinke was arguing a call. Since he only threw four pitches on Saturday, the team started Greinke on Sunday. The last Brewers pitcher to start on consecutive games was C.C. Sabathia, who started the game before and after the All-Star break in 2008. Greinke is scheduled [to start] Friday's game, Milwaukee's first game after the All-Star break. This would make him the first pitcher to start three straight games in one season since Red Faber for the Chicago White Sox in 1917.
  20. Harvey...the future is now.
  21. What in the hell is that black Mets patch doing on these jerseys?
  22. Edgy DC wrote: He's gonna get to pitch one way or another... Now that YFMolina isn't going to be there, I wouldn't be surprised if LaRussa uses it as an excuse not to get Dickey into the game at all. I've never really disliked the SF Giants all that much until this season.
  23. Eventually this thread should get moved to our under-utilized "Predictions" sub-forum.
  24. In 75 starts for the Mets, Dickey has a 2.92 ERA. The probability of him dominating everyone forever was pretty slim to non-existent. I haven't seen anything that suggests that he won't continue to be a very good starter for us...and even if he reverts back to his Metly-norm, I'm OK with that.
