Even with his shit 2019, he's been arguably better than all of Oswalt, Gagnon, Lockett, Flexen, Santiago, Pounders and maybe Familia, Bashlor, Avilan, and the excellently dressed Chris Mazza, too. May not be worth doing backflips over, but he costs relatively nothing and could be a great pickup in an area that severely needs help. It's like something a smart team would do. Good gumdrops indeed.
  3. Brad Brach is a Met, per the internet!
  4. Greg Holland dropped by the DBaggs but that looks to be very warranted.
  5. I was in and out of the kitchen making dinner so might have missed it entirely, but I wasn't sure Rojas touched first before his knee failed him. Did he?
  6. I think I would have some level of interest in Sipp, Brach and maybe a little in Zack Godley, who was just DFA'd by the DBaggs. Brach's velocity is still the same, his BABIP is .375 and his FIP is 2 full runs below his ERA. That said, he's still been walking everyone and it's not just bad luck here. Godley's velo has dropped off, but if there's something mechanical, he was > 9 K/9 the last 3 seasons as a starter. He could be a relief pitcher/SP depth reclamation project.

Crowd should be good; I was surprised how loud and how full the stadium felt for a 4:10 first pitch yesterday. Also you should be happy that my kid and his Mets buddies have run with the SHaMs name. Every team's crowd is better then they're playing great, but winning Mets crowds seem a notch above that.
  8. I'm bummed and a little surprised it came down to two SI covers. I give Dwight the slight edge despite the McDonald's colors on DWIGHT THE GREAT.
  9. I'd rather be the team that trades away the closer for a haul than the team that trades for one. If the price is right, see ya, Sugar. Then rebuild the pen next year on other just-as-volatile, cheaper FA options.
  10. Houston scares me because they're smarter than the Mets. Gerrit Cole's K/9 went from 8.7 in Pittsburgh to 12.4 his first season in Houston and is at 13.5 this year. They did the same shit with Verlander. He was already 34 and striking dudes out, but his K/9 jumped by 2 anyway. They way Seattle played Brodie, how can I not be afraid they trade us a few lemons and Noah's slider starts exploding again?
  11. A few weeks before Pride Night. Bravo, dumb shits.
  12. I voted Darryl, it's such a good photo, but I love the Doc cover, too. The red border bugs me on the TIME cover, but it also makes it seem like TIME wasn't bending to appeal to the sports world. Doc and the orange and blue just forced their way onto it.
  13. September 69. The whole world was freaking out about the Mets when there was plenty of non-sports stuff to freak out about in 69. LIFE mag all the way.
  14. I did not need this thread today. Appears Sid had no shoe loyalty. Looks like a http://www.rndng3rd.com/NYMHall/players/F/sidfer_files/image020.jpgPony and an http://www.rndng3rd.com/NYMHall/players/F/sidfer_files/image022.jpgAsics maybe? Sorry, boss, I'll be looking at pictures of baseball cleats all day.

  16. Was a wild surprise and pleasure to meet you, bmfc. Mighta been the sole pleasure of the night (the Mikkeller beers and the Alonso bomb were pretty good, to be fair). The yard was as nice as I remembered, what beautiful skies there when the sun is setting. The people around me were great, too. But damn, the plight of this current team is upsetting. I went to the bar in right field after the game and people in their giveaway shirts were dancing to pop songs and having fun and I was like WHY AREN'T YOU MAD LIKE I AM!?! I was looking to commiserate with fellow malcontents and got Duran Duran instead. Off to non-Mets vacation so I can chill out a little. This game is fun, damn it.
  17. I think today is 6/28. Currently holding down Mikkeller, followed by section 112 if any of y'all are in tha house tonight. I know about the new backpack policy, but I couldn't find anything in the fine print about giant “WILPON OUT” signs. Asking for a friend. #LGM
  18. 1) Blind spot, for sure. Professional obligation, no. I just think he made a shitty evaluation based on his zero experience as a General Manager. It's fine for him to sell the line that a 36-year old dude is still gonna be good for 5 years when you're an agent... 2) I don't know. BVW wants him in there, for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if Mickey was also blindly stubborn and foolishly loyal to "a veteran" to "get him on track". 3) I think Mickey's out of his depth.
  19. Tonight will be the 80th game of the season, so we're just about to the halfway point. Cano's counting stats: .223 / .270 / .361 (an Ordoñez-ian .631 OPS, 70 OPS+). He chips in with 4 homers, 16 doubles and 16 ribeye steaks. All that equates to -0.5 fWAR. He's striking out at a career-worst 19.5% rate, has a career-worst .130 ISO and his UZR and UZR/150 are both negative. Who had "super shitty" in the office pool?
  20. If only Cano would've had it rougher in the minor leagues...
  21. Adam Eaton is clearly only concerned with paying his mortgage, damn everyone else.

There are some very fine people on both sides. I LOL'd.
