  1. I think your original point (getting guys RIGHT NOW!!!! and living with the decline) has been happening forever. Shit, George Foster? If anything, teams are more leery nowadays of paying for past production, which drives the union to try and push for earlier free agency and less service time manipulation. But teams who think they have a shot will always buy backend decline years if it means getting those prime years.
  2. Cortisone shot for Nimmo who missed today's game. And Tijuan Walker's felt knee pain today, per Deesha Thosar. :-| Are we having fun yet?
  3. I get Michael Cuddyer vibes from Canha so I'm gonna guess that his line is identical to Cuddyer's in 2015: .259/.309/.391, 10 homers, plenty of regret.
  4. Somewhere between Ben Grimm's prediction and Lefty Specialist's.
  5. Taijuan got his tits lit and did not make it out of the 2nd. 8-nil Nationals, who are still batting.
  6. He probably grinned a huge grin like the overgrown little leaguer that he was.
  7. I liked Todd Frazier the dude more than Todd Frazier the signing. He was exactly the player we all thought and knew we'd be getting but he seemed fun and pretty damn likeable. I always called him Big Dog after he started calling everyone Big Dog because in Henderson-adjacent fashion, he couldn't remember anyone's names. That's pretty funny.
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: He's like Xavier Nady and in fact, will do exactly what Nady did including getting traded for Oliver Perez midseason. 14-40 265/326/487 in 292 PA Let this one day be enshrined in the predictions forum HOF.
  9. Marte was a free agent signing, but just the same, I think the A's, Rays and a bunch of other teams might disagree with that assessment on modern trades. I'm with most everyone here. I expect Marte to decline this year, but more towards his career norms, which should still be great for him and the team. I have no idea if/how a position change affects a guy coming to a new team, but I'll say .285/.370/.450, 15 homers, 25 steals, and MLB top-10 in advanced metrics in RF.
  10. I went to a Dodgers/Giants game on Saturday and there were two nameless number 90s in the Dodgers lineup. I was hoping the wrong #90 didn't get cut for bouncing out to second 3 times.
  11. Dodgers replace the departed Kenley Jansen and lose like their 11th best hitter. Good trade.
  12. Pete's slow start seemed to have a lot to do with that hand injury but he scorched after that was behind him. I think the big, hairy baby is closer gets closer to his rookie year than last year: .265/.360/.560, 45 homers, and another HR Derby trophy.
  13. Wish this news broke today so I could pretend it was fake.
  14. I bet there are lots more who feel like you guys. MLB has tried so hard to reel in new fans by changing rules to make games 8 minutes shorter, and they've succeeded in alienating a bunch of core fans along the way. But I'm sure there are scores of 12-year old kids who threw their playstations away and flocked to baseball after they put in the automatic intentional walk rule. :/
  15. I think we'll get more of Washington Max than Dodger Max, but it should still be pretty damn good, even if his performance isn't $45M worth of fWAR (he was worth $42.9M last year, holy shit). He'll take the ball more than I'd guess a 37-year old dude would and and will go 13-8, 3.65 ERA, 190 IP, 215 K. A solid #2, if you will. #poojoke
  16. I'm real bullish on Lindor in '22. He got the year 1 "Beltran" season out of the way, had a torrid last couple months last year, a hot spring so far this year, and is a ripe 28 years old. I think he goes .285/.350./.500, gets back over 30 homers (35!) and with second base magically a foot closer to first and third, he'll be back over 20 steals, too (25!). Top 10 MVP guy. Smiles all around.
  17. That's cool. Is it about corporate partnerships, advertising and stuff? Uni patch ads maybe?
  18. This one is on SNY/MLBTV app for us out of towners not blacked out
  19. =seawolf17 post_id=87903 time=1648660723 user_id=91] 24-4, 1.53 ERA, Cy Young.
  20. When deGrom pitches, he will be sensational (duh). He's logged 160 IP the last two seasons and I think he gets around there for 2022 based on nothing but my shitty instincts. 155 IP, 225 K, 2.10 ERA, 13 wins. Top 3 Cy.
  21. How do you pronounce the Marlins DH's last name
  22. Nimmo was a better CF than Marte last year per DRS. 33 and four years older than Nimmo, maybe the brass doesn't expect that to change much this year.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yeah, the Dodgers really blew it. They could have had their uniform read HOLLYWOOD (looking like the famous sign) and had palm trees or something. Although if it was up to me, I would have based the uniform on the La Brea Tar Pits. The graphic [CROSSOUT]above [/CROSSOUT] on the previous page with last year's unis is how I would tier them in terms of successful execution. Tier 1) Boston and Miami T2) Sox, Cubs, DBags T3) Giants, Dodgers I'd put the Nats in Tier 1. I agree the Dodgers were the laziest, most unimaginative submission. That they said it was a nod to Fernando and their Latino fans was even more aggravating because they put no new effort into this concept and basically copied their "Hispanic heritage night" homework and re-submitted it on a different assignment. F-, guys.

If I hadn't been told what it was, I'd guess it was confetti from a baby shower, or possibly pointillist accents from a graffito. The tops are terrific, though. Not far off. They're apparently petals blowing in the wind! https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/private/t_16x9/t_w1536/mlb/xvozguohdhuunukjl9yg.jpg>
