  1. My brain was thinking along with Soup's.
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: What's going on here? ]Ray-Missouri October 20, 2007 I had a very upseting and emotionally disturbing experience with Luis Alvarado as a young fan. I can't help but think that I am not alone in this experience. Anyone care to comment? Dairylea Tickets October 28, 2007 I had a positive one - I got his autograph outside the stadium. He signed for a few of us and walked off with Hendu Ray-Missouri December 6, 2007 Let me repeat myself. I had a very disturbing experience with Luis Alvarado and I am also wanting to know if anyone can tell me the cause of his death. Asking how he died took that contribution from strange to creepy for me. I googled for a sec and found no mention of how he actually died. Who would ask that in that manner unless you're wondering if someone killed him or he killed himself?
  3. Annually, sure, but he's probably not even in the top 50 for total dollar amount and at his age and given his past production, I think he's a decent bet to rebound. I would've been cool with the Mets giving him that contract to play right.
  4. ="SteveJRogers"] Vince Coleman may or may not have beheading a cat I'll give you the shoddy edit job, but I did throw in the "may or may not" caveat since Mitchell has denined the incident took place, and Gooden actually denies telling it to Klapish when they were writing the book. SteveJRogers may or may not eat babies. SteveJRogers may or may not hate Mexicans. SteveJRogers may or may not be Derek Jeter's secret boyfriend. This is fun! And easy!
  5. I actually kinda like the Andruw signing. If he's great, they can try to extend him and if he wants too much, they can let walk for 2010 when he'll be 33. If he still sucks, you only have to deal with him for 2 years and he'll still be better than Pierre. The Pierre signing was stupid at the time and Colletti made it worse by saying stupid shit like this: ]"This man gets on base an awful lot," Colletti said. "He gets 200 hits or more, is a great guy on a club and, like Nomar (Garciaparra), has great qualities as a human being." And no one else would've given Nomar that pile of cash (especially as a 1bman) after he fell off the earth second half '06.
  6. Mendoza Line's batting 1.000. Cool stuff, man.
  7. I thought about Nady, too, and thought if we were going to that route, just give them Church and a Jason Vargas-type starter for Jason Bay, who's the same age as Nady (29 in '08), relatively cheap for us($5.75M), and a better bet to give us solid production. They're rumored to be interested in a Bay for Shoppach/Cliff Lee trade, and if a catcher has to be included, give them Church (cheap, productive, under control for a few years), a similar cheap, young, under control Vargas-y pitcher, and Estrada and $2 mils to pay his salary. Bam.
  8. Wearing that giant-ass wooden cross.
  9. Noble echoes the Milledge decreased value talk, but sez his value had diminished not to other teams, but to us. ]In dealing Milledge, the Mets lose a 22-year-old outfielder who has had issues on and off the field in two partial seasons with the big league team but still is a highly regarded offensive talent. Milledge's batting right-handed and his occasional defensive shortcomings in left and right field diminished his value to the Mets, who now can have three switch-hitters, three right-handed hitters and -- when Church plays right field -- two left-handed hitters in their most regular lineup. Add me to the mob that thinks this deal sucks BHMC.
  10. Welcome back, Sal. I know that's been talked about here before. Only thing that seems like a big roadblock is that most pitchers typically hit a wall around inning 5 or 6, which under this scenario would be in the crucial 7-9 innings. It'd be nice to have a fresh bad-ass to go to there (Wagner at the end, I'm sure) but I think I'd not have a great outlook if El Duque ran into trouble in the 8th and Heilman was burned in the 2nd. I still think managers will be concerned with L/R matchups in those later innings when pinch hitters start coming up and that would put out-of-box thinking manager into a tough spot, too. Would he take out his starter after 3 2/3 to bring in a LOOGY in the 7th?
  11. I'd try to get that D'Antona guy after the Rule V, convert him to a full-time catcher in the minors, and see if you could turn him into Russell Martin. It looks like the catching thing is something he didn't do in college at all, but he's apparently got some kind of rifle arm, sez BA when he was in college. He'll be 26 in May and they're leaving him unprotected for the 2nd year in a row so he could probably be had for a song. If it doesn't work out, you've got a fairly versatile AAAA guy with some pop. Signed, Internet Fan Boi GM of the Year

  13. Seo Leong, America? Hello, Bobby V? ] Sports Seoul: Seo Jae-weong to Sign With Japanese Team Sports Seoul is reporting that Seo Jae-weong is making big waves toward Japan, now chosing between signing with either the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks or the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPB. It had been originally been reported that Seo would sign with the Kia Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization, but no contract had been finalized. Seo (30) had a solid year with the Rays Triple-A Durham Bulls, going 9-4 with a 3.69 ERA and a 5.90 K/9 . He was named pitcher-of-the-week three times and also won two playoff games for the Bulls. The fact that Seo was choosing to come back to Korea at all was something of a surprise. Although he wasnt going to be offered a new contract with Tampa Bay, its likely he would have gotten a long look as a No. 5 starter for a team in MLB. One would think he certainly has more left in the tank than Park Chan-ho, who signed a 1-year deal with the Dodgers last week. Upon arriving in Korea Seo did mention his family as being one of the reasons he wanted to return to Asia. I bet the Angels are thinking he's dealable. I think you're right and I think JC Lunchpail's Baltimore/Tejada thing looks more likely today. They'd be just a tad younger and maybe better in both CF and SS and add Jon Garland. Okay work, I'd say.
  15. No aversion to Lastings or growing a hitter in general, just not sure he's there yet. I'm hanging my hopes on a lot of uncertainties next year and would like one less is all, but we seem to be running out of positions to do that.
  16. The guy in the yellow shirt looks pissed, Rogers. Bet he's the one that got you run. BTW- your Gotay doesn't look like the one I remember. Who is that guy?
  17. Centerfield wrote: ="A Boy Named Seo"] People, I think we need a bat in RF. A big one. That's what I've been saying. Then I agree with you, man.
  18. Castillo and Estrada are the definition of light hitters. Both with a sub-100 career OPS+, both sub-100+ last year (78 Estrada, 93 Castillo, 96 with us). They combined for 11 homers and 44 doubles in 990 at bats last year. That's not a lot of pop, man. Alou was pretty fantastic in the amount of time he played. I hope he plays more, but the rate and maybe even the overall level production will be hard to top at 41. Delgado's going to be 36. Babies and whatever else aside, the guy's in decline. We need offense out of right field. I'd also ask about Matt Kemp in LA, and maybe see if Andruw Jones wants to try a new position and stick it to the Braves.
  19. I need to read about Steve's ass getting bounced. Where can I find that thread?
  20. I thought he had cold feet about coming over. Anyway, I think we might need something a little more sure. There's not much in the FA market. During the GM meetings, the Pirates new GM put Jason Bay's name out there. He had an off year and is a left fielder by trade, but I think we could do worse. Griffey's in the last year of his contract, is due $12.5M this year, and played right field last year. Something could probably be worked out there.
  21. OK, so our two big vacancies have been filled at the cost of just Guillermo Mota and cash, but they've been filled with a couple of light-hitting, adequate defenders (adequate at best for Estrada), both slowed recently by injuries. I don't think we can reasonably expect too much more out of Alou, Delgado, or Wright than we got in '06 '07. Maybe Beltran either. Reyes will hopefully improve. A healthy Castillo and Estrada are known quantities. People, I think we need a bat in RF. A big one.
  22. Centerfield wrote: .699 OPS at Miller Park. Yeesh. I guess he was the best option though. What's he like defensively? 73 steals allowed, 11 caught = .131 CS%. His career line is a little better at .239. By comparison, Yorvit's rate in '07 was .197 (61 SB, 15 caught) and Lo Duca's was .234 (72 SB, 22 CS). Complete fielding stats for each: Estrada Torrealba Lo Duca
  23. It looks like he made 3.4M last season and is arbitration eligible for '08. At worst, it's Johnny Estrada for one year at +/- $4M and look again for a catcher next year.
