  1. I worry about the Mets being blamed for the sharp rise in parakeet sales and all the seedy, back-alley, parakeet in-breeding that will go on to meet the demand. I mean, #lolmets, right? I hope the Metsies again give extra days to the starters, skip starts here and there, piss off Harvey and go with a 6-man rotation for a couple weeks, just to keep all the dudes fresh. For realz, the D still doesn't look great, but there's depth. Lots of days off for guys, shifting positions, late inning D-replacements. Very importantly, there should be plenty of competition for PT which benefitted the team lots at the end of last year.
  2. Kunz was supposed to be this polished college guy the Mets thought could slot into the major league pen pretty quickly. This guy made me immediately think of Chad Cordero for some reason. I think the cheap-assed Mets (!!) were just trying to buy their free agent reliever right out of college. Also remember a couple of dirty name jokes. He was prob called 'Rusty' at least once. Why do I struggle to remember my own mother's birthday, but can remember anything at all about Eddie Kunz?
  3. Some lame voter(s?) thought Griffey needed to wait a year like he's gotta pay his dues or some dumb thing. Congrats, Batch!

'Click' being the key activity. I can remember posting an entire article before in the interest of it being around forever in case the url ever changed or disappeared. I'll make sure I knock that shit off, this practice is a good one. I don't see how youtube gets a click when the video is posted here. I don't see how the rights holders are compensated when someone takes a youtube vid and converts the audio to mp3 for downloading onto his or her computer. When we embed a video here, all the links and metadata from Youtube are unchanged. They still know what's being played and can compensate if an arrangement's in place. If someone takes a YT vid and rips it to an MP3, then I imagine that would count as one click when the theft begins and after that, it's just a stolen mp3. Obv, not every piece of copyrighted intellectual property is legit on Youtube, but they have struck deals to compensate artists as a streaming service, similar to Apple Music, Spotify, whatever.

I think that they think that they can pull a rabbit out of a hat again at the trade deadline, if needed, but other teams have seen that trick so it will be tougher to pull off a second time. I fear that they are relying too much on anticipated success by d'Arnaud and Conforto and the health of Wright. Getting a better bat for the OF would help prevent such reliance. Maybe they'll sign Span for a short-term deal. That helps "lengthen" the lineup as he leads off so Granderson can move down. http://nypost.com/2015/12/18/mets-checking-in-on-familiar-of-as-lagares-replacement/ Agreed, agreed. I suspect they're trying to put the most competent team out without getting crippled by long contracts and I think they're succeeding in that regard. Gotta try and extend these pitchers long-term sometime soon. With Heyward or Upton on the books, it'd be harder for these Mets to do that. I also think they'll lean heavily on a trade or 2 again in July to fill whatever holes have opened up by then. Just how it is.
  8. On the twelfth day of Metsmas The Metsies sent to me: Twelve arm sleeves glowing An eleven game lead in September A ten foot shorter right field Nine Muffies bungling Eight Bartolos jiggling Seven pleas to please buy tickets Six Kirks a-hacking FIVE N-L FLAGS! Four front-line Aces Three wins 'gainst LA Two shortstop's broken ankles And some memories of Dillon Gee.
  9. The Indians signed Rajai Davis yesterday for $5.25M. Too steep for our blood. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/indians-to-sign-rajai-davis.html

  12. "He only wants the WOMEN to ogle him, like they did for me." Also, Derek Jeter is (still) a turd.
  13. All of this is so weird. Reading about a buyout - not that it's not a nice thing to do and all, but why would there be one if Cuddyer's just decided to hang 'em up? There's been like a $10M refund to the payroll coffers. Gotta take advantage of this gift here, Mets.
  14. That is a decidedly better (on paper) Cubs team than we thrashed in the playoffs. Way better defensively and tougher to whiff, too.
  15. Cubs got him, sez internet.
  16. And when bmfc1 wrote: Future NY Post back cover after Cabrera wins a game: "METS KICK ASD" And when he boots a ball in the 9th and we lose: "ASS DRIBBLE"
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Can he play CF? I look at Charlie Blackmon a lot myself but you never know what kinda non-Coors hitters these guys might be. He's played CF, but I don't know if he's a centerfielder. And slightly less crappy away from Coors than Blackmon (Blackmon .695 OPS, Dickerson .724).
  18. Screw Span. What about Corey Dickerson? I feel like maybe we should talk about him a little.
  19. IMO, Walker and Cabrera both being switch-hitters (and competent form both sides) played largely for the Mets. Zobrist was that guy, too. Seems a clear MO for this offseason. Though I don't love the Cabrera pickup, it does provide depth and having 6 guys to run out in mix/match configurations served us really well after the Uribe and Johnson trades last year.
  20. I am so much in favor of this rumored thing, if it is straight up for Niese. Fills a direct need without creating another gaping hole, and we're still all easy-breezy, with no long-term commitment being doled out to some old-ass dude. Potentially 2 thumbs up from me. PS - good call by JCL last night, eh.
  21. My cell phone, via MLBTR, says the Astros are 'listening to' offers on George Springer. He's an extremely talented slugger, knocked by injuries in each of his first 2 seasons. He's played RF and CF for Houston, and my cell phone sez they want pitching back, naming dudes like Carlos Carrasco (CLE) and closer Andrew Miller (NYMFY), neither player alone seemingly enough to seal a deal. He's arbitration eligible in 2017 and can't be a free agent until 2021. Would you try to make a deal for George Springer to be our new CF? What would you give up? I'll start with Wheeler, Lagares, Nimmo, and our Daniel Murphy QO draft pick (can you trade draft picks??). Still, that may not be good enough, but what the hell do I know? Regardless, it would be cool to see the Mets get real creative and nab a young, budding star from somewhere else. What is your opinion of George Springer?
  22. I'm not terribly unhappy with this development.
  23. Mets are maybe a little commitment averse and don't wanna hook with anyone for a long time. They just wanna pick up like they're on Tinder - easy breezy, playoffs & chill, 'cab fare's on the table by the door, honey'. (honey = Yoenis)
  24. Gwreck wrote: I don't mean to sound dense here, but why does everybody think that the Mets won't acquire him? -Do we think that the baseball executives aren't smart enough to realize this is the right move? -Or is it that we're still in a "believe it when we see it" mode with respect to how much money the Wilpons actually will spend? For me, I guess more #2 than #1. I'm sure the execs know Heyward ticks a bunch of the boxes of the 'stuff we need' checklist, but I don't think they will go >$200M to get it. I think with the great pitching staff, they're content to lay a little low, and kinda figure out what we need in July again like last year. Edit: Plus, I think our 'big get' this year is gonna be Zobrist and both are not happening, like at all, at all.
  25. Ceetar wrote: Gwreck wrote: I think it's also key to remember as well that the Mets don't need to envision Heyward as a long-term centerfielder if they sign him; they need him to play there regularly for 2 years. When Granderson's contract is up, he can move back to right field. Then they'd have to replace him in center, while downgrading offense in right. That's not the ideal situation. I don't think Heyward as a downgrade from Grandy is necessarily true now, let alone 2 years from now. Would live to see Heyward in blue & orange next year, but there's zero chance of that happening, yall.
