Also, a first class citizen of a first class city against a second class citizen of a first class city. Can you guess which is which? Matt den Dekker's back? Reminds me of those riveting discussions back in the days of Madoff and Megdal over who should get more playing time: den Dekker or Nieuwenhuis and where in the lineup should they bat? Jeez, it was like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

This is more a "Mets in Retirement" post. Pelfrey, the Mets' top pick in the 2005 amateur draft, becomes the latest Mets top pick to ride into the sunset. While three post-Pelfrey top Mets picks are currently free agents, only one top pick more recent than Mike has hung it up. Name that pick. Reese Havens?
  4. I hope he kicks his wrist a lot better than he cooked his wrist last year. Travis has the potential to be the catcher with the best wrist-crock technique in all of baseball. Can't wait till we get to expectations for Kevin Plawecki.
  5. Isn't there a fair use argument to be made? The NYT is allowed to report that the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates last night without having to pay MLB or the two teams even though the NYT generates revenues from its reporting of that game. Likewise, G. Prince can write and publish a10 volume, 4,000 page comprehensive history of the N.Y. Mets without owing anything to the Mets rights holders.
  6. Oddsamakers had the Mets at 50-1 to win the 1969 WS, the longest odds among teams that existed the year before, and maybe even among all 24 teams, so there's that. OT--How the hell does anyone type on a smartphone? You need Barbie doll fingers. It took me 10x as long as it should've to type this post.

  9. I think that's Addison Reed, third pic, Mets blue top.
  10. The 2018 Topps Heritages are out. Amazin' 1969 style. Surf the web for pics. I usually post lots a pics every year this line debuts, but my internet's been out for a while. Outage problem. Posting from my phone sucks. Nice Matz card. Amed gets a New Age Performer card. Check 'em out.

I've been fatalistic about him for a long time prolly because everyone thinks he's super, and for his part he's proved me wrong so far. But. 5-4, 3.01, 56 innings, 70 games, maintains his whiff rate but HRs also increase, and a few of them will hurt I coulda written your post. Just when you think you could depend on Blevins, is when he sucks worse than Tommy Milone. That's the nature of the game.
  12. There's no doubt that the Mets goal is to wild card it into the playoffs. You should've known this from last year's team. Going in, the 2017 team was essentially the same as the 2016 wild card squad. Pitching was supposed to be the Mets strength, depth and quality wise. Yet last year's Mets opened with four starters coming off 2016 season ending surgeries. Their unexpected World Series run of 2015 still serves as cover for how broken and dysfunctional, especially relative to their market, this franchise is.
  13. Mex17 wrote: How about this.... Harvey - 25 [starts] Twenty five starts for Harvey? That's pretty optimistic. Harvey's a thoracic arm syndrome survivor, as you know. Hardly anyone ever recovers from that injury. It's a career killer. And last year, Harvey's pitching was in line with someone typically coming back from TAS -- that is, Harvey was dreadful, the worst starting pitcher in all of baseball. On top of that, he's also a Tommy John surgery survivor, and though his 2015 comeback from TJ surgery was admirable, Harvey was clearly a diminished pitcher even then. The former superstar who could once nick the edge of a dime with 100+ MPH heat is lucky to hit 93 on the radar these days, and even still, god knows where that 93 MPH slow fastball is going to end up because Harvey has no control any more. Count me skeptical. If someone's gonna give Harvey 25 starts, I hope it's the Nats.
  14. But what does that have to do with battingfrazierleadoff? The uppercutting technique aims to improve slugging (power and hrs) at the expense of OBP. Almost nobody is a Daniel Murphy who can double his power output to 20-30+ HRs a year while simultaneously remaining one of the toughest to strikeout in all of baseball.
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I kinda like Panik. I'm ready to move on from Cabrera, and I think, Cabrera is ready to move on from us. Edgy MD wrote: There's something to that. Panik's a'ight. Wait, who the hell are you? Jeez, don't you wanna know who the hell I am? Always playing favorites, you.

  17. The Tigers should sign him so there could be a Panik in Detroit.

But also there's an element of Yanqui-stroking to this all -- is he the next Jeter?!!?!?!! -- combined with the ridiculous notion of 'projecting' season HR totals two weeks into the season ... he's on pace to hit 126, do ya think he'll do it !?!?!?!! And then there's the fascination these highlight geeks have with their new video game toys of "exit velocity" and distance guesstimates, as if those HRs are worth more than a regular one. Certainly there is always going to be the media sucking some good old yankee cock. the only way to get rid of that is to win a few world series while the Yankees suck then it'll be "the Mets are so great and the Yankees suck and are threatening to move to New Jersey again" Do you really believe that the media will ever stop sucking "good old yankee cock" (your words, not mine) once the Mets win a few World Series? First of all, it already took the Mets their entire almost 60 year existence just to win a few World Series, and by a few, I mean two. I mean, by the time the Mets win another two World Series, the Yankees will probably have won another 25 and we'll all be dead by then anyways. And besides, in that time, that's a lot of sucking of "good old yankee cock" (your words, not mine) that's destined to happen. Of course, if we're dead, we'll never know if the media ever truly stopped sucking "good old yankee cock" (your words, not mine) as you suggest it will. How old is that "good old yankee cock" (your words, not mine) anyways? Any how good? How good and how old? Whitey Ford old? Because if it's Whitey Ford old, it's probably shriveled and soft. I can't believe you even think of these disgusting things. Did you ever, even for a moment, stop to think about the women and children lurking here?

So what say we play my favorite 70s game -- Match Game? OK, ready? I'll give you a clue and youse have to fill in the blank. Members only. OK. Our first clue is 'blank a-doodle-doo. Blank a-doodle-doo'. Fill in the blank, club members."
