I keep on forgetting the passwords to my Flickr accounts and cant find where I wrote them down. I've probably got about a half a dozen accounts with images floating around and I can't access them. When I'm in the mood, I'll open up another account, I guess, and post my Mejia banned cards. If I remember, they were very Peter Maxie.

I think they can’t afford to fund a $185 million payroll because they’ve over-leveraged the team and SNY to make up for Madoff losses. And I think they meddle too much to allow a smart GM to spend wisely ?even if they had that money. New GM though. So we will just have to wait and see. Don't overlook the role CitiField played in this.... And whose fault is that ....the stadium's? It's the stadium's fault that the Mets sucked and the stadium was small and has a Jackie Robinson rotunda and the ugliest scoreboard in all of sports and that the owners are cheap and incompetent

And apropos of this thread --- is Syndergaard on the trading block? https://www.amazinavenue.com/2018/11/17/18099773/mets-syndergaard-on-the-block ___ I wonder if the Mets might do a stealth rebuild this off-season? That is, rebuild or some form of a teardown, but without labeling the move as such? You know, to try and fool the fans because you just know that the incompetent owners don't have the balls to rebuild even if they'd like to, and even if that's the advice they're getting. Whatever they do, it'll likely be a half-assed half-measured execution where they don't rebuild and teardown all the way, guaranteeing that they won't compete near term while their prospects for fielding a strong team two or three years into the future are going to be murkier than normal odds say they oughtta be. And if they try to contend this season, it'll be with a coupl'a new Michael Cuddyer style pickups. I think there's creedence to that idea that the new GM is on a honeymoon period and gets a new slate and perhaps, under those conditions, the owners might spend more than they're prone to spend. But I'm not counting on it. I'd bet same old, same old. TBD -

You'll love him even less when he blows his arm out and has that practically inevitable TJ surgery. I'd trade him for a comparable hitter with the same ceiling every day of the week. I wouldn't have said this two years ago but times change. -

All three homegrown Met CYA winners (Seaver, Gooden and now deGrom) also won the ROY award. Also, every right handed Met pitcher that won the ROY award would also go on to win the CYA award.

Landslide!! 29 1st place votes for deGrom.

https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/11/02/cameras-stealing-signs-pace-play-rob-manfred If Verducci is correct here, teams are growing more sophisticated in their ability to steal signs, with cameras at all angles. Here's the kicker: With all these spy cameras, teams still couldn't do well against deGrom. Shows you how magical his season truly was. deGrom was historically outstanding. But it doesn't necessarily mean that the cameras were ineffective against him. Maybe deGrom would've been even better without the super spying. The Mets didn't exactly kick ass in deGrom's starts.

It's probably a contributing factor to me getting my ass kicked watching 'TEEN JEOPARDY' this week. I feel more at home with adult Jeopardy. Oh, bud, it's not kid culture-- it's been a Broadway musical for two decades. Babies conceived during the film's theatrical run are just about old enough to serve in Congress.... Count me out of it, too. I thought the cartoon animals were smiling because the Yankees didn't take home the ROY award.

They went out and got the reigning MVP Jason Giambi. We get Fatso McFatso, who hadn't fucking played in a year and a half. Ferchrissakes already. Giambi wasn't the reigning MVP that offseason. Suzuki was. And, apart from looking at the Vaughn deal alone, the 2002 makeover was exactly the makeover demanded by everybody who was agitating at the Mets for their cheapness. Picky, picky. So I was off by a year. Giambi won it the year before. The next year, when Ichiro won it, Giambi was the runner up, finishing just eight vote points behind. I think this strengthens my point. The Yankees went out and got the reigning runner up MVP who won the award the year before. We got the Michael Cuddyer of 2002. And it was a dumb vote, to boot. Ichiro had no business winning the MVP, not by any stretch of the imagination, and especially no business coming out ahead of Giambi.

Scott Boras vs. The New York Mets

*41F: Refuses to acknowledge that he likes the Wilpons, continues to feign neutrality, says his only experience with the Wilpons was a pleasant conversation in some elevator or something. I'm not sure if he even likes the Wilpons. He defends the Wilpons, I think, because they own the Mets, not because he has any honest insights. He's a zombie and he'd shill for Adolf Hitler if Hitler owned the Mets. -

They should be right at the fucking top. Right there with the Dodgers and Yankess. Every fucking season ferchrissakes. Give me a fucking break already with but the Mets signed a big one every 15 years or so. -

The Mets should be making Cespedes like free agent signings all the time instead of once every 15 years. It's an embarrassment. It'd be one thing if the Mets had even a modicum of success with their approach but two first place finishes in 30 seasons ..... I suppose later tomorrow, you'll write that we have terrific gun laws because, hey, there wasn't a mass shooting on that day. Great! The Mets signed Cespedes. I guess that compensates for all the other years, when the Mets shop at Fred's. -
Ceetar wrote: Or maybe you mean guys in their 30s? Like when they gave a big contract to the 32 year old Curtis Granderson coming off an injured year with the Yankees. Guy must've had a dozen trips to the DL over 4 years with the Mets right? No way he'll put up 10+ fWAR or help lead the team to two playoff appearances. Josh Donaldson has way more red flags than Curtis Granderson did when the Mets signed him. Also Curtis was, at the time, a typical corner cutting cheap ass Mets move. If the Mets actually behaved like the big market team that they are, they would've signed Nelson Cruz that off season -- because they play in the nation's largest market and ought to have been able to sign Cruz effortlessly. Then they woulda had themselves an all star/MVP candidate every single season and might've won three straight WS instead of settling for one of their two first place finishes in 30 seasons and some wild card one off games. You get what you pay for. You're likelier to enjoy a great meal at some Michelin star restaurant than at some cheap eats joint that you know nothing about other than what you've read. Doesn't mean your cheap eats adventure won't pan out but the risk of disappointment is exponentially greater.

Ceetar wrote: If the Mets did get him, it'd be classic Mets: getting an MVP years later and in serious decline. Oh, and he's well into his 30s so expect even more decline. Because these cheeseball cheap ass owners can't do anything without cutting corners and coming up with a plan that depends on the Hail Mary. And so they'll get what they fucking deserve. You'd figure that the team from New York City would just flex their muscles and grab the Giancarlo Stanton or Bryce Harper the way Trump grabs whatever pussy he wants to grab. But not these fucking deadbeats. They'll go for the Mo Vaughn hoping he'll drop 125 pounds and rediscover his stroke from eight years ago. That's always the plan. They'll never learn. It's Michael Cuddyer all over again. And Waiting for David Godot Wright. This is some seriously useful analysis and insight. It is. You just need to get past the obvious "schtick" which includes a purely gratuitous cursing effect that I've been lately developing for style points . You should seriously tamp down your dreams and expectations for ballplayers that are closer to 35 than to 30, have years and years of stark decline, are racking up major health issues and have missed more games than they've played in recent seasons. That's seasons, with an s at the end. I mean, WTF? How many warning signs do you have to willfully ignore to pigeonhole yet another player into the he'll be great if the Mets sign him camp, all because the Mets are too fucking cheap to sign the player or players they ought to be signing?

smg58 wrote: Fangraphs has Josh Donaldson being worth at least $40M in five of his last six seasons (2018 being the obvious exception). He's basically one lost year removed from that. But he'll be 33, not 26 like Machado and Harper. Of course the injuries are a concern. But if he's willing to do a one-year deal, or even a front-loaded deal with a player option after 2019, I'd go as high as $25M for next year. The potential reward easily outweighs the potential risk under those conditions. And if he's inclined to bet on himself, it would suggest that he, at least, has some confidence in his health. If he insists on a longer commitment, the risk goes up though. He's definitely worth monitoring. This is all very plausible. But the same kind of stuff was said about Mo Vaughn and Michael Cuddyer and a host of others. Even David Wright, including from some of our forum's children, who acted as if Wright was gonna not only come back, but win the MVP and lead the Mets to the World Series.
