  3. Or unless Syndergaard's ulnar collateral is hanging by a thread.

Alderson was supposed to do that. He didn't. Now BVW has to, but not until after this run. Who is in on this thought process? I dont think that teams plan for winning a World Series because that feat requires so much luck that even fielding the undisputed best team in baseball isn't nearly enough to win it all. Also, the World Series champion isn't necessarily the best team. More so today with expanded rounds of post season. I think teams try to maximize their chances of winning the division and then hope for the best. So the idea of holding a GM, who might only have a few seasons, to the goal of winning it all is, at least to me, unreasonable.
  7. I'm really leery of baseball players who missed most of their 35 year old seasons. I know how good Cano was up until his suspension, but even without the half a season missed at 35 years old, he's way closer to the end than to the beginning. Plus, what was already noted here -- "Who's on Second?" Obviously, the Mets didn't make this trade to platoon McNeil and Cano. Did the Mets move all these players to acquire Cano, and on top of all the question marks he already brings, the Mets intend to play Cano at a position he's practically never played at all in the Majors?

It is possible the Mets can subtract one of those younger players (Kelenic, McNeil, Dunn) before the deal becomes official." https://www.sny.tv/mets/news That's a lot. Not nearly enough. The Mets will probably need to throw in Jacob deGrom to bring in that haul. And the thing is, I cant even figure out if that's part of a teardown, or if the Mets are going all in on 2019. On second look-see, and these being the Wilpon owned Mets, that trade looks like a teardown of the present and of the future.

  11. I just tried doing this list mentally, and when I got to 31, the first Met I thought of was Bruce Berenyi, not Miks Piazza. Was that because of the other thread from today with the Berenyi references?
  12. Jorgensen's 16 to me. I have no memory of him as 22. You could definitely tell a person's age from these ppsts.

  14. Some NY writer raised an interesting thought the other day -- why would Syndergaard's former agent suddenly be in talks with several teams to trade him? What might BVW know about Syndergaard that nobody else knows?
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Any notion of "MFY taint" is coming from the fans, not the Wilpons.... Oh, that much I knew.
  16. MFY taint? What the fuck is that? Is that the latest excuse for the Wilpons to cover that they'd be too cheap to ever go in on Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig or Mickey Mantle if those players were playing today and hitting free agency?

  18. I didn't post in that Dickey thread and I still remember why not. But I remember what I thought at the time -- that I was all for the trade. But at the same time, I wasn't about to give eff and Jeff any of the credit if it worked out. I figured that Sandy's fingerprints were all over that deal and the only reason the owners approved and were willing to go along was not because of any process, but because they were too fucking cheap to pay Dickey what they thought he would've commanded on the open market, reigning Cy Young award and all.
  19. You show me someone who thought the Mets would be in the World Series three years later and I'll show you someone who's either totally full of shit or batshit crazy.
  20. The stupid Mets didn't go far enough. Boy was that ever the year to tear it down. They should've dumped Wright for prospects while he still had value instead of re-signing him to the then biggest Mets contract ever. What a bunch of saps.

This is the organization that had local insurance salesmen peel off the descending games left markers off of the Shea Stadium outfield wall during its final season because it was too fucking cheap to fly In the Hobie Landriths and Cleon Joneses. And that was before Madoff so they couldn't use their own willfulness to invest in a scam as an excuse, either.
  24. Centerfield wrote: Mets out according to Jon Heyman. Quotes a Mets source saying he’s not their type of player. What a shocker! Never saw that one coming. And all this time, I was clinging to this thread like it was the best Alfred Hitchcock suspense movie with the twist ending that I'd ever seen. And it was. Holy Norman Bates!
  25. G-Fafif wrote: Jeff Wilpon sadly rationalized, "We weren't old enough to have enough history. But now we are and, in Jay, who's been with us so long and has seen so many players come through the organization and maintained a rapport with them, he was the absolute right guy for this job." Jeff's so stupid. If he waited this out long enough, every last one of Casey's Mets would eventually die off. I can't figure out if Jeff's comment is supposed to make me happy or sad.
