  1. I was thinking that since the Mets brass isn't willing (or at least, shouldn't be willing) to deal Pelfrey or Milledge, the most likely option would probably be a guy who makes a lot of money on a bad team. You mention Radke. Jared Washburn is the guy that came to mind.
  2. Did they say anything about this in the pre-game? As to what the Mets might do?
  3. Keith's prize was him remembering trying to get the ball from David Cone despite the fact the play took place after he retired.
  4. If I could give everyone a Shaefer point tonight, I would.
  5. Wright 2 Floyd 1 Sanchez 1 Heilman 1 Reyes 1 Beltran 1 Matsui 1 Julio 1 Delgado 1
  6. Make Julio the closer NOW!!!!
  7. That was a good game. Great hustle by Beltran to get to second. Otherwise, he would have had to stop at 3rd and we might still be playing.
  8. I always thought our greeting lended itself to bad mis-interpretation. I'm waiting for a new poster to respond with "Glad to be here, dick."
  9. Glavine 5 Nady 3 Beltran 1 Wright 1
  10. I doubt that is true. And if it is, some of Bret's criticisms about the front-office being a bunch of morons seem pretty accurate.
  11. Hail!!!! I mean, Super Hail!!!
  12. Darling made a point that bringing in Julio to finish the game may be a boost to his confidence. He closes out a shutout, gets to be involved in a win, and shakes hands as if he is the closer. Interesting point. I hope there is some carry-over.
  13. I admire the faith of the fans who would go to Shea on Saturday knowing what the pitching matchup is.
  14. Can you imagine if Clemens came to the Mets, swiped 18 million and then sucked? Wow. They wouldn't have to tear down Shea. The boos would be so loud the place would crumble.
  15. Absolutely. I didn't reward Heilman at all for two dominant innings. Nothing to Sanchez for another strong inning. And the guys I did award points to deserved more. I guess that makes it a good game.
  16. Because of the rainout and the tie, the "record" has a few different facets. If we're looking at losses alone, obviously we would need 120 to tie, 121 to break. In order to "break" the record for lowest win percentage, a team would have to lose 122, assuming no ties or rainouts. But that would still mean the Mets would hold the record for fewest wins since they only won 40 that year. So, if we're looking to lose that record, we need a team to lose 123.
  17. A month into the season, it looks like we have a few candidates to give our boys from '62 a run for their money. Our contestants are: 1. Kansas City (5-20, .200) The hapless Royals are still winless on the road and just placed Mike Sweeney on the DL with a bulging disk. 2. Pittsburgh (8-21, .276) Pittsburgh, meet Carlos Delgado. 3. Florida (7-18, .280) It doesn't help that they have to play the super-awesome Mets 19 times.
  18. I wish we had to play the Cardinals once. Twice maybe.
  19. Martinez 3 Delgado 3 Chavez 3 Bradford 1
  20. Gary Cohen making a run for worst idea of the year by talking about bringing back Pedro on 3 days' rest to face the Braves Sunday.
  21. Go Jose!!! Why pull Pedro after only 77 pitches?
  22. This is a real tough one. It's like the David Wright for Cabrera and Willis trade that was being tossed around here before....I just hope I am never faced with having to make that decision. I know logically it would make all the sense in the world...and in fact, I believe after he got here and won a few starts, we might even find a way to find him tolerable. But as of right now, illogical and stupid as it may sound, I want no part of Clemens on this team. I don't want to trade David Wright. I want to like my team.
  23. Great job with the photoshops guys. Isn't it funny how our perception of baseball cards depends on the year we started watching the game? To me, baseball cards will always look like this:
  24. I'm not sure how we got along before Rotty came around.
