  1. From the Daily News: Strawberry attended his first Old-Timers' Day and was in a Yankee uniform, but that didn't change where he truly made his mark in baseball. Asked if he's a Yankee or Met, Strawberry didn't hesitate: "A Met," he said. "I played here for the Yankees, but my real history has been in the Mets organization, and it always will be," Strawberry said. "That's where I stand."
  2. Cool thread. It will be fun to chart his progress.
  3. Wow, those are some sick offensive numbers for the Jays.
  4. I don't think I know the Jays.
  5. I caught some of it on the replay yesterday. While Pedro was on the mound, they were talking about how (presumably Pedro) was asked to cut the sleeves off of a long sleeve shirt and that when he went to do it, he slipped in the lockerroom and hurt his hip. I had people over so I couldn't really hear the details, my questions are: 1. Were they, in fact, talking about Pedro? 2. If so, wtf is going on? Can I have details from someone who actually heard the story?
  6. With all ten of those wins coming against the Phillies.
  7. Cool, then we can get Maddux from the Cubs and reunite the big three. I wonder what Steve Avery is up to. Or maybe look into getting Denny Neagle...
  8. Brad Chadford gets it done.

  10. Nady tells CF to stick it up his ass. Then sticks his head up his own ass and gets thrown out trying to stretch.
  11. Ground Rule Double for Franco. Xavier "I leave small armies on base" Nady up.
  12. Great post! Wright goes KABOOM!
  13. Sacrifice fly makes it 2-0 Reds. The Mets are making me sick.
  14. I'm getting sick of walks.
  15. Pedro coming to bat. We'll see if his practice with the wiffle ball bat helps.
  16. Yancy Street Gang wrote: How big a nerd do you have to be to walk around with an MLB "I voted" sticker on your shirt? (CF discreetly removes sticker, crumples it up and drops it under his chair)
  17. Interesting strategy pitching to Castro with a runner on third and the pitcher due up. Works though. 1-0 bad guys. Now let's get some runs.
  18. Funny...MLB is encouraging folks to stuff the ballot box: Thank you for voting for your favorite players on the Monster.com 2006 All-Star Game Online Ballot. We invite you to return to the ballot on MLB.com and vote up to twenty-five times. Your vote counts, and may help your favorite players get to the All-Star Game in Pittsburgh.
  19. All that comes to mind is "WagNOOOOO!!!!!"
  20. I've had it with Wagner. That is four blown saves, one blown four-run lead, at least one tie where he's given up the lead run, and another blown save narrowly avoided by Wright's amazing double play. The worst part about it is that the walks just aren't going away. Early in the season, it was because he didn't have enough time in spring training, but it's June now, and the control should be there. Is he injured? Is he messed up in the head? Why is our 50 bazillion dollar closer suddenly unable to throw strikes?
  21. Oh, and a voting confession...every year I blindly vote for all Mets. This was the first year I can remember voting for a non-Met to start. With all due respect to Paul LoDuca, I voted for Mike Piazza. Old habits die hard.
  22. Mets still in line to send four (possibly five) starters. But the non-MFY AL All Stars need your help. Ichiro has just moved ahead of Johnny Damon for the third and final outfield spot (and quite frankly, with a .365 BA, he deserves it). Go vote now and make sure he doesn't relinquish his lead. While you're there, vote for: Mark Loretta - Second Base -currently trails Robinson Cano Miguel Tejada - Shortstop -currently trails Jeter...wtf? Captain Asseater has 5 HR's. Mike Lowell - Third Base -currently trails A-Rod. Lead is huge...and even we have to admit, A-Rod probably deserves the spot.
  23. Since this is supposed to be off-beat, I think the throat guy in the anti-smoking commercials kind of reminds me of an older, fatter Carlos Baerga.
  24. I think the DBacks slide started one series earlier against the Phillies. I'd be happy of the DBacks fell out of it. Quite frankly, after all the talking we did about how the Mets thrive in Arizona, I was scared that we would have to go back there in October and not score a run.
  25. I tuned in for the end of the game. When I flipped on the game, I was hoping to find that the game was over and Philly was lost. But instead, I found the Phillies rallying and Mariano on the mound. And instinctively started rooting for the Phils to win it. By the time Ryan Howard came up I had to remind myself that I wanted the Yankees to win. Sure, I posted earlier that I was going to root for the Yankees to win. I don't think I realized until tonight just how counter-intuitive that would be.
