  1. Like I said, give Jeter his due for owning the hit record. The idea that this makes him better than Gehrig (or the other great Yankees) is garbage. That won't stop people from saying it though.
  2. Good. I just wish that Van Slyke, Bonds and Bonilla were there to suffer through each of these seasons.
  3. Maybe I just haven't been watching enough TV, but I don't really get bothered by the coverage Jeter is getting. I mean, unlike most of the praise heaped upon him, at least this one happens to be true. Being the lifetime hits leader of any club is impressive, and doing it for a club that has the history of the MFY's, in the age of free agency, and most importantly, from the shortstop position, is impressive. It's when I start hearing things like "One hit as a Yankee is like three hits for any other team, so really, he's already passed Rose" that I start to hurl.

Move the fences in. Give me a uniform, 8 foot wall at the same dimensions of Shea.
  5. I think of Keith Miller.
  6. bmfc touched upon it, but the 2009 Mets first mis-step was to not upgrade the lineup or the rotation. The lineup came in with several question marks and several outright holes. Nothing was done to address these issues leaving us a lineup with no depth. Same can be said about the rotation. When a freakish run of injuries struck, it derailed a team that had no margin for error. I think we would have contended had we stayed healthy, but I don't think we could be considered the favorite for our division, nor to make the World Series.
  7. As of August 4, the team was 10 games back of the division. They were 9 out of the Wild Card with 8 teams in front of them. They were, effectively, out of both races. At that point, Johan Santana had been in sufficient pain that he was unable to do his throwing session after his last three starts. However, they ran him out there four more times. We're arguing over opinion here, so obviously your mileage may vary. But I cannot see how anyone would justify allowing Santana to make his start on August 4. Much less three more starts after that.
  8. No, but I imagine it's quite a few. And I realize not all of them are shut down, but if the pitcher is Johan Santana, and you've got him signed for a bizzillion dollars, and you are out of the pennant race, and the problem persists for six weeks, then it goes beyond the realm of defensible decisions. For me anyway. I'm surprised to see so many that do not agree.
  9. If Johan Santana is not healthy enough to be throwing between starts, he should not be pitching. He has had too much pain to do so since the All-Star break, a time when we knew the season had been lost. Therefore, I think anyone involved in this decision to run him out there should be fired. It's incompetence to an incomprehensible level.
  10. Luis Castillo, Ironman
  11. But if we stop going to games, Fred Wilpon will be able to justify moving the team to Miami. We need a cardboard cutout of Fred where we can unstick his clothing piece by piece.
  12. I love Major League. Not so much Paulie, though I did sit through the whole thing.
  13. Wait until August when the slugging title goes to Santana.
  14. If Beltran plays soft, give me more soft players. My problem is Beltran playing hard (out there on a bad knee) when he should be sipping drinks on a beach until his knee is 100%.
  15. Joel Fucking Piniero. Let's knock this asswipe in the first. 7 runs, 8 hits, no outs recorded sounds about right to me.

Send him to Mo Rivera's house, tell him to meet you at the deep end. At night. Buy him a car and let him drive around in Leyritz's neighborhood.
  17. 1999's lineup was pretty stacked. 2000, if I recall correctly, had Piazza, Alfonzo, then a bunch of guys who would fit right in on the 2009 squad.
  18. You ask two different questions. Art Howe was the worst manager. That's what I voted in the poll. He was a nice guy, but clearly clueless. I liked Willie Randolph the least. I was happy when he was gone. Dallas Green's tenure was the most disappointing, but I don't know if he can be blamed for the team's misfortunes during this time.
