  1. The schedule sucks.
  2. I'm trying to think of a worse time for Mets fans and having trouble coming up with anything. This sucks as much as things can suck.
  3. She looks like my friend. My friend Mike.
  4. I need an intervention. Sporcle is going to cost me my job.
  5. It's inevitable. I hate baseball.
  6. I thought jokes were supposed to be funny. Asshole.
  7. Wags not retiring, says his agent.
  8. Some very interesting stuff in this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/11/sports/baseball/11mets.html?_r=2&ref=baseball I doubt the Dodgers would say something as concrete as the Mets have official documentation showing that the correct diagnosis of Mr. Reyes was made here in Los Angeles in May unless there was something there to back up the claim. Which makes you wonder what the hell Jeff Wilpon was thinking when he threw the LA doctor under the bus. Also, even if Wilpon were speaking the truth, there is no explanation for why the Mets doctors diagnosed him with the calf problem for weeks thereafter. You just wonder what the hell was going on there. More and more it seems like the doctors were getting the injuries right, while the Mets, for some reason, were pretending that these injuries weren't there.
  9. The answer is obvious. He was mugged by Zeus.
  10. Great job Grimm, as always. Unfortunately, those cards are the highlight of the year.
  11. So it really was Carter. Wasn't he released? Did we really trade Wagner (the draft picks we would have gotten anyway) for a guy we could have picked up for free?
  12. Mazzilli might be explained by younger fans wanting to know why SNY hired such a creepy guy to be in the booth last year.
  13. The Mets may not have gotten much power from first, but during my tenure as a fan, they've either made up for it with firepower coming from the catcher spot, or been a bad team. Murphy at first is fine if they get a legitimate cleanup hitter in LF, and trade Castillo for Chase Utley. But this is not likely to happen, so the Mets should look for power anywhere they can and not commit to role players in those slots. The problem with this team is that we are already locked in at many spots in the lineup. 1. Reyes 2. Castilllo (probably, unless they can move him) 3. Wright 4. 5. Beltran 6. 7. 8. Catcher (Santos, Thole, FA) So this leaves only 3 spots left (LF, RF, 1B). The brightside is that these are all good places to find thumpers for the lineup. The problem is that we already have two players under control for those positions and I do not feel comfortable with either player hitting higher than 7th. So Omar will be faced with upgrading 2 of those positions, and then keeping either Franceour or Murphy.
  14. Great post Greg! Missing just one thing: P.S. We are going to get Adrian Gonzalez even if it means grabbing him on the street and throwing him into the back of a van.
  15. Hmm, young lefty pitcher named Chapman? I think I've seen that kid before. From what I can tell, the kid throws hard, but $32 million might be a little much.
  16. Interesting. So we should be expecting a flood of mea culpas from all those columnists who said the Mets were stupid last week. Any day now. Um. Maybe tomorrow.
  17. With his horrible defense and .711 OPS, it's tough to make a case he should be starting anywhere, much less First Base. That type of production is more suited for backup catcher than first base on a contender. I'd have no problem with bringing back Delgado if he were reasonably priced AND if they Mets recognized the need to still upgrade the lineup with legitimate power. In his worst year, he beat Murphy's OPS by 70 points. And of course, he has upside if he is healthy. The problem is, I have very little faith in the Mets to do so. My fear is that if they re-signed Delgado, they'd act as if they'd addressed the power shortage, and you'd hear stuff like "We added a 35 HR guy to the lineup". Somehow, I made this Murphy thread into one about my lack of faith in Omar. Sorry.
  18. Cool analysis. Still, I'd guess that 1-6 nets you a higher percentage of stars/starters than picks 7-12.
  19. Joe Mauer, meanwhile, issued a different statement to the press after going 2-4 with a walk against the Cleveland Indians. "Fuck the World Series," said Mauer. "Seriously. Write that down. Fuck the World Series. If I ever win a World Series ring, I will literally just take it and fuck the tiny ring-hole." Mauer punctuated his remarks with a graphic, thrusting pantomime, presumably of what he would physically do to the World Series ring. It should not be legal to be this funny.
  20. That was like the best article ever. I love it. I especially liked the bit about the inspirationamometer and a professionalismfantasmatron. I'll remember that every time someone makes the argument that: 1. There are certain things like grit, toughness, class and a desire to win that cannot be measured or quantified, and 2. Derek Jeter leads the league in these categories
  21. I guess being a boy named "Shelley" can really have an asshole-izing effect on a guy.
  22. You guys are dumb. It's obviously because he sees Altcheck that his shoulder is screwed up.
  23. I love that in a season as miserable as this, the first 2010 thread that pops up is full of optimism. Go Mets! (next year)
