  1. COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF ENTIRE TEAM RATHER THAN ARBITRARY FOCUS ON LAST PLAY CITED AS KEY TO VICTORY
  2. I was too young for the first three. But I think I watched 6 of the last 7. (The Ike Davis game being the exception.)
  3. Wow. Long live Brian Stokes.

It was a great win, but let's not pretend that the Mets did not do a ton of things wrong in this game. Their offense was inept again. That Lagares blunder was one of the dumbest things I have seen in a while, and everyone is fucking up bunting (both calling them and executing). On the other hand, Familia is fucking awesome. I remember sweating through 9th innings, even with a 3 run lead. Last night, I went to make a sandwich and though to myself "I can probably make it back in time to see the last out." I just barely did.
  5. Game 6 of the '99 NLCS might have been an Eponymous Game if not for an interesting twist. If Todd Pratt had kept running it might have been The Robin Ventura Game. Instead it's called the Grand Slam Single. And no hitters, as far as I can tell, are never referred to as The Johan Santana Game.
  6. The Bobby Jones Game The Matt Franco Game

  8. 8.05 (d): If there is a runner, or runners, it is a balk when ... [t]he pitcher, while touching his plate, throws, or feints a throw to an unoccupied base, except for the purpose of making a play; I understand "unoccupied base" in that context to mean a base not currently occupied by a runner. Not a base not covered by a fielder. Else, any time you throw to second, you are throwing to an unoccupied base, because those plays are generally one where the fielder sweeps in while the ball is coming. That is how I understood it too. Otherwise Bobby Valentine's Dancing Olerud Strategy would have been a balk every time, no?
  9. Sure. We cannot leave off Mr. Koo.
  10. I joked last night that we had just watched "The Johnny Monell Game". Of course it won't end up being that. And it's likely that a few months from now few of us will remember last night's game clearly at all. Eponymous Games are interesting. Sometimes they are obscure players, sometimes they are superstars. Sometimes they are post-season thrillers, sometimes they are otherwise insignificant games in non-memorable seasons. I don't think there is any one particular criteria, but like the Supreme Court once said about porn, we know it when we see it. We've had this discussion before. Eight years ago to be exact: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/6300/f1_t6388.shtml It's interesting to read through that thread and see which have stood the test of time. I have no memory of the Ramon Castro game. But the Victor Diaz game still stands out. I thought it would be fun to re-visit the list. Maybe nominate about 20 or so then vote for our top 10? See what games we can add in the last 8 years. A few ground rules I was thinking of: 1. It has to be "The (First Name) (Last Name) Game". No descriptions or qualifiers. 2. It cannot be a hybrid "The Olerud-Schilling Game". 3. For now, let's limit it to Mets only (So "The JT Snow Game" is not eligible). 4. It can be wins or losses ("The Luis Castillo Game" being an example). 5. If a nomination has at least one other legitimate possibility as agreed by 2 other posters, it is eliminated from contention (For instance, if The Benny Agbayani Game is nominated and the 14th inning HR is intended, but 2 other posters associate that with the Grand Slam in Tokyo, it is eliminated as an Eponymous Game) I'll start with one of my favorite ones. The Dave Mlicki Game.
  11. I am sure it's not the case, but I feel like we haven't won in San Francisco in a decade.
  12. Is Mejia healthy? Last time we saw him he was sprinting off the field holding his elbow.
  13. AND WHY THE FUCK IS TEJADA BATTING SECOND? HE HAS A .646 OPS. THIS IS RIGHT AT HIS CAREER NORM. HOW MANY MORE YEARS TO WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS BEFORE WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS GUY FUCKING SUCKS?
  14. Send him down. He's not ready. Go get me Recker.
  15. They are 28th in the league in OPS. How they justify this is beyond me. I think I might take a break from watching the Mets this long weekend. The front office should be ashamed of themselves.
  16. SWING THE FUCKING BAT PLAWECKI. WTF.
  17. Serious question, is anyone having fun watching these games? It's just three plus hours of torture.
  18. Why aren't we shooting him? Are we out of bullets? Did we try shooting him but kept missing?
  19. Yes. But at least he's an all or nothing guy. Right now we have "very little or nothing" guys.
  20. And if Conforto struggles shoot Sandy. No questions asked. Just shoot the smirking fuckface. The offense he put together is 28th in the league in OPS.
  21. Fuck Cuddyer. Fuck Tejada. Call up Conforto and Reynolds. If Reynolds struggles move Wilmer back to short and call up Herrera.
  22. Yikes. That is brutal. Given how the offense has been I'd guess this is where Washington pulls away for good. But you never know. Prove me wrong Mets!
