  1. Let's go on a 15 game winning streak.

  3. Does this mean you have to re-sign Walker in the post-season? FUCK MAN WE SHOULDA JUST KEPT MURPHY.
  4. For the first time since Sandy started, I feel like he panicked. Thought he had a deal for Bruce, it fell through. Felt the need to get something, gave up too much. Wtf man. Dilson is TWENTY YEARS OLD.

  6. Frayed Knot wrote: If nothing else it gets the club out from under any commitment for next year. Bastardo is signed for 2017, Niese for 2017 & '18 but a simple 500K buyout negates all that. There is cash going to the Pirates. I guess it depends how much it was to gauge if the Mets win out here.
  7. So let me get this straight, the Mets lost their starting first baseman, their starting third baseman, and their starting shortstop. They've also lost the guy signed to fill in at 3B and SS while the first stringers are on the shelf. We lost our only true centerfielder, and we have so many corner outfielders, we talked about moving some of them to CF and 1B. We are down a starting pitcher, and could use bullpen help. All season long the offense has been plagued by all-or-nothing guys who strike out too much. And so, the solution here is to take our top hitting prospect and trade for Jay Bruce?
  8. Yeah, I'm not ok with this at all for Dilson Herrera. Wow. What the fuck Sandy.
  9. Did Brandon Nimmo start crying?
  10. This year has really caused me to re-think whether being able to hit with RISP is an actual skill. I always assumed this was just a stat of correlation rather than actual ability. Only this year's Mets have me thinking whether there is something to it. In any event, Jay Bruce with RISP 2016: .360 BA, 1.125 OPS 2015: .180 BA, .642 OPS 2014: .242 BA, .746 OPS 2013: .262 BA, .825 OPS So either it's a random stat, or he was ok at it, then got really bad, and practiced, and got really good at it this year. Hope he doesn't forget it.
  11. Well, you also get to keep your guy, but point well taken.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I think the starting pitching still looks pretty great. Better relative to the league than they were at this time last year, I would imagine. I think the team's flaws almost begin and end with plating runners. Yeah, you're probably right. Anyway, they are clearly going for it with the Bruce acquisition. Let's win this thing then.
  13. I guess we'll be talking about him a lot longer than a couple of hours. Like I mentioned, not high on Bruce, but Nimmo didn't seem like a high price to pay for someone with 25 HR's and 80 RBI. Hope he doesn't make us pay later. Welcome to NY Jay Bruce. Is he a good guy at least?
  14. I keep going back and forth on this. Last year I felt like we were a player or two away. This year, not so much. I think it's because the starting pitching has taken a big step back. I dunno. I think you're close enough that you have to go for it. Second wild card is still well within reach. Make the playoffs. See what happens.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Not a lot of support for keeping batz in the lineup by revisiting (if only temporarily) Flores as the first-string shortstop. I would do this until Reyes is ready. Looked bad yesterday. I wonder if we'll see Asdrubal again in 2016.
  16. I mean, I guess it comes down to what you give up for him. Wouldn't give up any blue chippers for Bruce.
  17. I'd pass on Jay Bruce. His best asset his his power, and he's moving from Cincy to Citifield. Yikes.
  18. Jesse.
  19. "Check out the hottie in row 6" "Which section?" "114. In the pink tank top. Wow." "Wow is right. Holy crap." "Amazing right? Ok. Call overturned." "Thanks Jeff."
  20. Let the Cubs and Nats load up. It will be that much more epic when the Mets take them down. And let them trade away their young talent. Next few years will be that much easier.
  21. Hopefully they'll go on enough of a run to be aggressive buyers... ...then subsequently tank. But not enough to get a protected draft pick.
  22. G-Fafif wrote: There are lessons to be gleaned from the examples of others, but frankly, I don't care what other teams do and I don't care what the Hall of Fame says when it comes to Mets. This is not an endorsement or a rejection of any given number being retired, just a matter of personal principle. I wouldn't not retire a number because the MFYs or the Astros or whoever have a stricter or looser policy. Absolutely. The only thing I would change here is that I don't care what the Hall of Fame says when it comes to anything.
  23. I figured we were not interested once we signed Reyes to play third, so can't say I'm surprised here. I am surprised he got 5 years. That's pretty hefty for a 32(?) year old player who has never played a day here. Annual $ per year though is pretty reasonable. I would have guessed 3 years, $36 million. So tells you what I know.
  24. For those looking to bring back Hawkman, looks like the price won't be very high: http://www.thescore.com/news/1059696 If Jon Niese is looking for a vote of confidence from Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington, he's going to have to keep waiting. During a radio interview Friday morning, Huntington had some rather candid remarks about the struggling southpaw, who he acquired from the New York Mets over the winter for popular second baseman Neil Walker. Niese hasn't worked out in Pittsburgh, and Huntington's comments - coming amid reports that he's currently shopping Niese - indicated he may be wishing for a reboot button. "In hindsight, maybe the two fringe prospects and trying to figure out where to re-allocate the money might have been a better return (for Walker)," Huntington told 93.7 The Fan's morning show. "That's where the results take us."
  25. Well, ratings are sagging everywhere as a result of having 1000 channels to watch. But part of the reason the ASG lost some value (I imagine) is interleague play. All of a sudden it's not interesting to watch and AL pitcher face an NL slugger. It happens every night. I can't imagine why they need to know which league will host the first 2 games months in advance if the team itself isn't determined until a few days before, but whatever. I think letting it determine home field is dumb. They should just say the winning team gets to bang the wives of the losers.
