  1. I think the worst case scenario is already here. Alvarez is a big part of the Mets future. I don't see any sense in trying to let him play hurt and potentially hurting him long term. Dustin Pedroia is the case that is cited as an example of him playing through this. Pedroia just said in a recent article that (a) his thumb still hurts him, and ( it's going to rob Alvarez of any power. In Dustin's case, power was just part of his game. If you take away Alvy's power, what do you have left? Of course, Pedroia played an entire season with a torn UCL, where Alvarez will be playing maybe a month to 6 weeks. I don't know. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I'd rather they call up Parada and see if the kid can go Benny Agbayani for a month. It can't be worse offensively than Senger.
  2. One of the fun things for me is taking a trip to Baltimore or Boston and being able to root for the home team without any reservations knowing that it can’t hurt the Mets. And if they’re playing a NL team, it may even help them. Eliminating the AL and NL just so fundamentally changes the way we watch baseball. It’s just crazy. How much more revenue will actually be generated? Is that enough to destroy these traditions? I mean. I think I know the answer. It’s yes. It’s always yes. We didn’t stop the universal DH. We didn’t stop the extra inning runner. Naming rights to stadiums. On field advertising. Ads on the uniform. Eventually we’ll be rooting for the CitiBank Mets. If the name Mets even survives.
  3. They say hitting will be the actual challenge. Apparently there is some history of this. Dustin Pedroia played through a similar injury, and though it affected his power, he had a decent season. I don't know if there are any other examples other than Pedroia.
  4. He needs surgery. His season is over. It's hard enough to ask a regular position player to play through such an injury. A catcher? Forget about it. As long as you're not risking anything for next year, I guess there's no harm in seeing if he can play through it. But coming back seems highly unlikely.
  5. Again, it's curious that there's so little info. What's the injury. How long. etc. Makes me think it's bad. I wonder if they're holding the info while trying to figure out a better plan than Torrens/Senger.
  6. Not good. Hoping it's a 1-2 week thing.
  7. I dunno. I’m getting a bad feeling. Like if it was minor why not just announce it. Hope it’s just paranoia.
  8. Curious that there is no update on Alvarez.
  9. Eliminating the NL/AL has so many ramifications. All of the awards/records would be affected. There would only be one batting champ, one MVP, one ROTY. There would be no such things as “National League Champions”. And I’m sure eventually everyone would get used to it. But does this really need to be done? One of the cool things about baseball is being able to travel to Boston or Baltimore and root for the team knowing it doesn’t affect your team at all. Eliminating the leagues robs us of that.
  10. Team is spiraling. No end in sight. No solutions anywhere. Stearns roster isn’t perfect but it’s not this bad.
  11. They were down 3 runs with 6 innings to work with against a terrible team. If they felt like their backs were against the wall then that’s on the coaching. This team has played like they’ve had their backs to the wall for 2 months. Something has to change.
  12. I really thought once we brought in Stearns this type of collapse wouldn’t happen anymore. After showing an incredible ability to adjust on the fly last year, this year has been marked by ridiculous stubbornness. Including quadrupling down on Paul Blackburn. How many times can a guy play himself off a team.
  13. In 2021 he had a higher OPS as a right handed hitter. So it’s not impossible. But even then all his power was from the left side.
  14. The problem is, everyone in the organization, and even the media surrounding the team think that the Mets are just going to magically snap out of it. Like it’s just. A bad stretch. It’s not. The offense has been bad all year (4 months plus). It was bad in 2023. And bad for the first two months of 2024. The 4 month run they had in 2024 was the outlier. They need to figure out what was different during that time and figure out how to get that back.
  15. Peterson! That’s right. Peterson and to a far lesser extent Megill.
  16. It’s great that McLean and Sproat are friends. I mean it doesn’t mean anything as far as wins/losses, but kinda cool. Like Baty/Vientos/Alvarez. Really hoping that these guys work out. The only pitching prospect that has stuck in the last decade is Tylor Megill.
  17. I read something on twitter like: "She'll throw you out of the game for something you did 8 years ago". I laughed. Probably shouldn't have. All kidding aside, I hope she kicks ass. And I hope she takes the job of that ******* that did the Padres game.
  18. Good info. Can you tell me where you got those numbers? My thoughts. C: 24th This includes a lot of unproductive Luis Torrens. It's unlikely Alvarez will stay as hot as he is, but you figure we'll be better from here on out. 1B: 7th Likely stay the same. Hopefully we won't fall off. 2B: 21st You figure with McNeil getting more time there, this will go up for the last 2 months. 3B: 20th Will likely stay the same. SS: 13th This is the big surprise. Hopefully the toe is healed and he gets hot for the last two months. LF: 8th Hopefully stays the same. CF: 29th Mullins isn't great, but he should be better than this. RF: 5th Will hopefully be better than he has been so far. DH: 12th This is a surprise. I didn't think we'd be this high. I'm not sure we'll do much better than this.
  19. That's the most infuriating part of all this. It's not as if we have Eric Campbell or James Loney out there. How can a group that is this talented put up such middling results? It's almost incomprehensible that a team with Lindor, Soto, Alonso can be league average. Obviously I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but this is too large a sample size to call it bad luck or a rough stretch. At the end of the day, either the message is wrong, or the messenger is ineffective at delivering it.
  20. The Mullins trade suggests they’re out on Taylor. With Vientos, I’m guessing they’re just hoping one of Vientos, Baty and Mauricio will get hot. If it were me, I’d DH Vientos every day for August. He has the best track record. If he earns it, he keeps it. If he’s still ass at the end of august you back burner him.
  21. And speaking of this **** offense. We figured that the gap between their OPS and OPS with RISP would eventually close, but it hasn't gone the direction we wanted. The Mets are 12th in overall OPS (.725), 15th in runs scored, and 17th in OPS with RISP. As of May 22, the Mets were 9th in overall OPS, and 24th in OPS with RISP. So while their performance with RISP has gone up, their overall hitting has gone down. It's just a league average offense. Crazy to think that's possible given the talent on this roster.
  22. In this brutal stretch where they've lost 8 of 9 games: *It's the fault of the offense: The offense has failed to score more than two runs 4 times, scoring 0, 1, 1, and 2 runs in 9 games. In one additional game, they tacked on 2 garbage time runs in the 9th to lose 12-4. *It's the fault of the starting pitching: The starting pitching hasn't been great. In 5 of the last 9 games, starters have given up 4 runs or more (Montas, Holmes, Senga, Montas again, Peterson today). Thankfully the bullpen has been ok. The bullpen lost us 2 games during this stretch and both of those guys aren't here anymore. Brazoban blew up the first game in San Diego, Butto blew up the second, but we only scored 1 run anyway, so it probably didn't make a difference. You figure the starting pitching will get a little better. But who knows with this **** offense.
  23. OPS last 30 days. Juan Soto .681 Francisco Lindor .654 Brandon Nimmo .671 Pete Alonso .636 Jeff McNeil .682 Brett Baty .718 Ronny Mauricio .723 Mark Vientos .742 Tyrone Taylor .400 The one exception is the guy that got sent down. Francisco Alvarez .919
  24. Yup. The mascot will be a giant potato named "Spud".
  25. Some real buzz that this guy might be the real deal.
