  1. I was at the game where he forgot how to catch baseballs. Sometimes he would swing and miss by two feet. Fast runner though.
  2. A few thoughts. *It doesn’t feel like he’s fully convinced about this team. At least to me. Said multiple times how much he’s excited about this team, which felt like he was trying to convince himself as much as us. Mentioned better contact. I think he’s like a lot of us. Hopeful but concerned. *He says he lets Stearns and the baseball folks make the decisions. But he does call and ask questions. This one I believe. Sounds like a lot of “David. WTF” with Stearns convincing Cohen that he’s got things under control. *Said that Bichette is a better fit than Tucker. I don’t believe that for a second. Tucker filled a positional need and is a better player. Bichette was the last guy left before going to backup options. That’s why they agreed to go 1 year on a QO free agent. They knew they were ****ed if they didnt get him. *I still like Cohen. I know every billionaire is a little bit evil, but seems like a genuine guy that wants to win. *im excited about Metropolitan Park. But I think the parking situation is gonna suck.
  3. Jose Quintana to Colorado. I thought he might be one of those guys still available when we get our first starting pitcher injury of the spring.
  4. It might be short several bats. There is upside to the young guys, but batters 5-9 could be pretty terrible. 5. Baty .633 OPS in 2024 6. Alvarez .710 OPS in 2024 7. Vientos .702 OPS in 2025 8. Robert .657 OPS in 2024, .661 OPS in 2025 9. Semien .699 OPS in 2024, .669 OPS in 2025 It's not a stretch for all 5 batters to have a sub .700 OPS. If that happens, it won't matter how good Benge is.
  5. These aren't Mets updates, but Corbin Carroll and Jackson Holliday both have hamate injuries as well.
  6. Looking back on my predictions. 1. Yup 2. Yup 3. I didn't see Tucker entertaining a short term deal, but in the end, they left a corner OF spot for Benge. Yup. 4. Yup. 5. Yup, so far. We'll see if he eventually loses his spot. Obviously won't lose it to Jett. 6. Half credit maybe? They didn't really pursue Bellinger, and they didn't pursue Okamoto at all. But they did sign Polanco, who is a veteran with positional flexibility. 7. Nope. They didn't spend money on a starter. Traded prospects instead. 8. TBD.
  7. This move was obvious as soon as Nimmo was traded. I remember saying that at the time.
  8. Yikes. Sorry. Mods, please merge!
  9. Francisco Lindor. Stress reaction in his left hamate bone. Potential surgery. Recovery time 6 weeks. Per Laura Albanese on twitter. ON EDIT. The six weeks includes a ramp up playing games, so Mets are optimistic for Opening Day.
  10. One of the reasons 83 wins was enough to snag the third WC was the rare non-competitive season from the Braves. That's not likely to happen again. That being said, they were dealt a tough blow today. Spencer Schwellenbach will start the season on the 60 day DL. Elbow inflammation. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/breaking-news/article/braves-to-place-promising-young-starter-spencer-schwellenbach-on-60-day-il-with-elbow-inflammation-172800685.html
  11. I think given the moves the Mets made, there is less pressure to start the year with Benge. I think it makes sense to give Baty and Vientos as much opportunity as possible. Assuming no injuries of course. Ultimately Benge could force the issue with a good spring, but I think he will start in Syracuse. They worked hard to preserve Ronny’s option last year. I think he’ll start in Syracuse too. The Mets have Alvarez, Semien, Vientos and Robert batting in the bottom of their lineup. A left handed pinch hitter will decide the outcome of a lot of games.
  12. Mets sign MJ Melendez. Major league deal. He plays 1B and C. Can’t hit. Other than that I know nothing about him. ON EDIT. Also plays OF. Hits left handed. Maybe he becomes our LH pinch hitter. Also maybe allows Alvarez to DH on his off days.
  13. Hard to say no to a big league level lefty reliever. You never know when they might have an Aaron Loup season.
  14. That's an interesting theory. I originally just figured they simply didn't want to pay him. But then why would they give that huge contract for Framber. Makes so little sense.
  15. I'll tell you who will know his first game is Short Center. And frankly, he's got all of you beat. It was July 14, 2007. Ralph Kiner night. Mets played the Reds. Hall of Famers in the Game: Reds: 1. Ken Griffey Jr. Mets: 2. Carlos Beltran 3. Tom Glavine 4. Billy Wagner In the Stadium: 5. Ralph Kiner 6. Tim McCarver 7. Tom Seaver 8. Rickey Henderson 9. Yogi Berra 10. Bob Feller 11. Ernie Harwell
  16. Right? I don't think I can pin down the year, much less the date.
  17. It's kind of crazy if you think about it. 1962-1998 (36 years). HOF Mets (playing career) 1. Tom Seaver 1998-2034. (next 36 years) HOF Mets (playing career) 1. Mike Piazza 2. Carlos Beltran 3. Francisco Lindor (likely) 4. Juan Soto (maybe) 5. Jacob deGrom (long shot, depending on how he finishes his career)
  18. Seaver and Piazza. Carter is an Expo. And the numbers are not really close. After Beltran, Lindor is probably next. Assuming he continues on this track, he'll have far more games under his belt than Cleveland. Hopefully he'll have a championship or at least a WS appearance to go with it. Soto, is a possibility. He'll log at least 5 years in a Met uniform before his opt out kicks in. And given he'll be going into his age 32 season, it's not clear that the Mets would pick up that option to keep him should he elect to opt out.
  19. I read the new contract is only for 91 games. So while it's more Keith, it's also less Keith.
  20. Sure. My only objection is the idea that the insignia on the plaque's cap indicates an all or nothing thing, that either he's a NYM in the HoF or he's not. He is a Met in the HoF whether the cap says NYM, HOU, KC, or Chico's Bail Bonds. I think the idea of wearing one team's hat is somewhat antiquated. Given how much players move around, it inevitably leads to one team feeling slighted, or forcing the player to make a tough decision. I think the rule should be everyone goes in with a blank hat unless you play over 70% of your games with one team.
  21. Me too. I get that the new philosophy of short term deals may lead to more winning. But for sentimental things like like-long Mets, or a Hall of Famer going in with a Mets hat, these are certain to become less and less frequent.
  22. I got your back. Let's go **** up Eugenio Suarez.
  23. Another example of the changing game is Eugenio Suarez. He signed a 1 year deal for $15M. He comes off a year when he hit 49 HR and posted an .824 OPS. Working against Suarez here are his age (going to be 34) and that he, like Arraez, is basically a one dimensional player. Good power, doesn't hit for average, doesn't walk, not fast, not a good defender. Another factor can be that his power seems to be mitigated a bit when not playing in Cincinnati or Arizona. He has a .424 SLG percentage over his time in Seattle.
  24. I think with Ichiro, his twilight lasted so long that all of his career numbers are skewed by years of replacement level numbers. More so than the 2-3 years at the end of most careers. He stayed in his prime until age 37, but played regularly until he was 43. (Not counting his last two years, which were basically symbolic). As for Arraez. He’s unique in that he brings so little to the table besides batting average. Usually guys who have that bat to ball skill have some defensive value, or as you mentioned, some speed. I’m sure in the 80s he would be more sought after than he is now. But with the modern numbers he doesn’t look great. He’s going into his age 29 season. And is coming off two down years. Low 700s OPS and a WAR of 1 and 1.2.
  25. Pete Alonso. .831 OPS 35 HR Brandon Nimmo .766 OPS 23 HR
