  2. Jay with the GW double last night. Maybe the rumors that he can't handle playing in Cleveland were overblown.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: If you're going to sign Reyes for next year it's going to be with the intention of using him as an all-purpose IF/backup SS. If he can also be an occasional sub in the OF that would be a (very minor) bonus but I can't possibly see that as his primary job nor do I have any faith that the final 20-some games are going to answer the question about whether he can or can't. Sure, it would never be his primary job (do utility players have a "primary" job?) but it would be nice to know if he has that skill set or if he's lost out there. If you're choosing between Cabrera and Reyes maybe that's a factor that you throw in. In any case, there's no harm in trying it. You aren't going to learn any more about Reyes's ability to play SS, or Aoki's ability to play OF. I don't think the final 20 games will give you a definitive answer about his OF skills, but it certainly sheds light. I think a great way to see if he can play OF in Major League games is to watch him play OF in major league games.
  4. If he's in spring training you've already signed him. Test him there now before making the commitment.
  5. I don't get this at all. You sit Nimmo against the lefty because, well, I don't know. But then you play Aoki? I really see no use to having Aoki out there at all. If left to me, I would: 1. Play Zimmo in CF. Reyes in LF (let's see if he can play out there at all) and Lagares in RF. If you want to throw Taijeron in once in a while and rest Jose, that's ok with me. 2. Play Cheech every day at 2B 3. Play Evans at 3B. Let's see what the kid can do. 4. Free the 'Weck! Give 2/3 of all starts to Kevin. Throw Nido out there a few times. 5. Pitch Gsellman out of the pen. Let's try it now and see how he reacts. 6. Cut Aoki. Seems like a good guy and a useful piece to have around and all, but he serves to confuse Terry. No way he should be getting this many AB's.
  6. Kinda big game today. Harvster making his comeback. Had a decent outing last time. Didn't have great stuff but battled through. Will be interesting if he can take another step forward today. Also, let's score some runs.
  7. Oakland A's are also home Labor Day weekend 2018. Anyone looking to visit stadiums can watch the Mets visit SF, then see Oakland later that same weekend.
  8. I think 2018 can be great. They have a good base of players, financial flexibility, and a smart team in place. If they are funded, the Mets can snap right back into contention. Gotta fire Barwis though.
  9. Baseball America wrote at the time of the draft that he featured a 90-94 mph heater that could touch 95 with downhill plane and heavy sink (subscription required and recommended). His go-to breaking pitch is a slider, per that report, though he also broke into pro ball utilizing a changeup as a third pitch. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/09/mets-complete-neil-walker-trade-brewers-eric-hanhold-ptbnl.html
  10. We went to Wrigley last year, and the Cubs ended up breaking a 108 year curse. I don't know off-hand the last time Peru won the World Series, but I feel like it's been a while.
  11. I can't help but think we had something to do with this. Everything was going fine until we visited Dodger Stadium on August 26. Then the losing streak started. Also weird, the one game they've won since then was the Friday night game we watched in SD. I think if I stop rooting for the Mets, all the pitching arms will suddenly heal.
  12. I think it had more to do with the D-Backs and Rockies than the Dodgers and Astros. And the D-Backs and Rockies have been pretty good. I think if they thought 85 wins or so could grab the second wild card, they would have gone for it with Syndegaard, Harvey and Familia all due back. Since the WC teams have continued winning, and the returns from injury have been less than spectacular, we probably never had a shot either way. Not that it looks like we got anything really worthwhile anyway. Maybe 30 years from now when the statue is being built, we will think "Remember how sad we were in 2017? Well good thing we lost all those games and moved up in the draft so we could get (Future-HOF-er-super-awesome-franchise-player)!
  13. And on the other side of the ledger, the Indians have won an improbably 18 straight. Such extreme winning and losing going on. And people deny climate change.
  14. All of these plans being predicated on his ability to play a decent CF. Which we should be finding out about RIGHT NOW!!!!
  15. I think they should try playing Zimmo in CF. From what I've seen, it doesn't seem like he's a big league centerfielder, but you have to try right? We know what we have in Lagares. He can't hit for shit. Let's see if Zimmo can handle CF. The power he showed last night was impressive. You start thinking that if he can develop a little pop, while maintaining that OBP, he could be something. But then I saw he hit only 4 HR's in LV. Head scratcher.
  16. smg58 wrote: I'll take three pitchers, and either a second or third baseman. I don't see first base as a position of need, and I think Lagares brings enough with his glove to justify letting him play. We need to address what killed us this year, and more than anything else that was pitching. Infield defense didn't help, but simply calling up Rosario was a boost in that regard. I could get down with this. If the pitchers are an ace, a Wade Davis, and a lefty reliever. Need some thump coming from 2B or 3B. Would rather avoid Moustakas.
  17. Surgery successful by all accounts. Should be ready in about 6 months, give or take. Puts him at March 1. Not sure how you build contingencies if you're Sandy. I guess you assume he's healthy and plug in Nimmo in the event he isn't.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: You have to admire his determination. Although it would be more accurate to phrase it as "He intends to keep trying to play." Has he already had the rotator cuff surgery? Or is it still something that's scheduled? There are so many injuries and surgeries that I can't keep track of them all. Clearly you have not been checking the Surgery SubForum. It's all in there.
  19. Lots of pretty good roadtrips there: 1. May 12-13 in Philly. 2. Memorial Day: Milwaukee/Chicago 3. Labor Day: San Francisco! 4. Third Weekend in September: Washington to watch the Mets clinch!
  20. Maybe I'm not all that advanced on good fraud techniques, but fake tickets seems like the kind of thing that has like, zero chance of success. You know? If you're going to go into the fraud business, I don't know why anyone would choose anything other than televangelists. "Send me your money, I'll send you blessings." Tons of people to be had, and unlike fake tickets, fake blessings can never be proven.
  21. 1. Shea 2. Citi 3. YS II 4. YS III 5. Three Rivers 6. Olympic Stadium 7. Camden Yards 8. Fenway 9. Citizen's Bank 10. Marlins Park 11. Wrigley Field 12. PNC 13. Busch Stadium 14. Dodgers Stadium 15. Angels Park 16. Petco Park
  22. I have no problem with Sandy Alderson stating publicly that he is constrained in payroll, so long as he eventually spends. I don't see any benefit to announcing that you've got money to spend. Really no excuse for a NY team to not have a top tier payroll. Top 5 would be good. At least around 7-8. Go get Darvish and Wade Davis.
  23. Let's shut down deGrom and send him home. Before his arm spontaneously combusts.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: With regard to Barwis, though, that video you posted of him and his scratchy-voiced screaming at his clients as they RAGE-lift, with TERRIBLE leverage over the weights, was all I needed. Cashiered. My wife watched 10 seconds of that and was convinced he broke David Wright's back. Yup.
  25. Awesome. Thanks!
