  1. These kinda suck. I kinda like the effects on the first one. And then, um...
  2. The Duda cover makes me sad. Man, I'm really going to miss that big goofy dude.
  3. I'm not sure I followed the rules here. I think it's hard to answer in the hypothetical. Are we supposed to consider real world options? Or just pick what position we would love an upgrade? Because of the 2B options available, none are really game changers. But put '99 Alfonso on the table and I'd be all over that. So I went with starting pitcher. Not sure which one will pan out the best, but I'd love to add an ace to our rotation.
  4. Who is the big shot infielder you have in mind?
  5. I couldn't care less about titles either, but whatever you may call them, there are top tier relief pitchers available and I don't think Shaw is one of them. (At least that's what I'm reading. I couldn't pick Shaw out of a lineup). In isolation, I'll take any piece that helps. But my concern is that the budget is limited, and bullets used on Shaw might preclude us from getting someone better. So, in summary, if this doesn't preclude us from getting a top guy, let's get him!
  6. Agree completely. I have nothing against Shaw and I think he could be a good piece, but I don’t like the philosophy this suggests. I think it is very dangerous to go into 2018 with the mindset that we have two closers. Familia is coming off major surgery and Ramos is not very good. He’s a closer in name only.
  7. I hope Sandy doesn't make the mistake of speaking to him in Street Japanese.
  8. Cool. He can hang out with Jennry Mejia.
  9. I guess the part that confused me was his claim that exit velocity settles in after 50 balls in play. How can that be? I mean, even if that were true, as the 21 year old grows and matures, you figure that increases as well no? Don't stronger people hit the ball harder, making it jump off the bat faster? I tell you, when I read a site like Fangraphs and they are talking about launch angle and exit velocity, I can't help but feel 100 years old.
  10. Is not going to be very good according to this article: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-bad-was-amed-rosarios-debut-exactly/ I don't pretend to know all of the new fancy metrics, but the gist of the article is that even with that small sample size, the projections on Rosario are pretty muted. Or at least, not suggestive of a superstar. That’s still a good player, even as bad as Rosario’s debut was. But the range of outcomes has certainly dwindled from where it was when he was an untouchable prospect with the world as his oyster. After all, that debut did happen. I don't know how anyone can draw any conclusions after such a small sample size. Can exit velocity and launch angle really be determined in 50 balls? I'd think one slump could ruin such a tiny group. Anyone know Eno Sarris? Brilliant? Full of shit?

He is also the only one of the figures already under control. Do you have a site for this? What's it say about Amed Rosario? NVM. Found it. Wow, not high on Amed Rosario.
  12. I don't see any connection between the Mets and "You Can't be Serious". I mean, that's what we might have all been thinking, but I don't see how the McEnroe quote connects at all. Mr. 300 is good stuff. My only vote of this round.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Well I'm not necessarily of a bigger fan of Walker. I think Walker is Fake News. Kinsler is the better career player but old and had a poor year this year. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the Mets are connected to Walker. Just saying that there is another option out there that is similar that won't cost any players.
  14. And if he is undermining the Marlins all the best to him. One less competitor in our division.
  15. Not sure why we would bother with this. Neil Walker is better, younger, roughly the same salary, and costs you no prospects.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: It should be MLB only. Ichiro gets in via that, Matsui not. I tend to agree. I just wonder how writers will treat it. Him being an MFY and all, I can see some bending backwards to stretch it. For what it's worth, it's the National Baseball Hall of Fame: The National Baseball Hall of Fame is a nonprofit committed to preserving the history of America’s pastime and celebrating the legendary players, managers, umpires and executives who have made the game a fan favorite for more than a century. Help the memories live on and celebrate the game you love! This is part of why you can distinguish between the Negro Leagues, and the leagues in Japan.
  17. Are you allowed to consider Matsui's career in Japan? His US career doesn't put him anywhere near the HoF. I wonder how they will treat that.
  18. And now pitchers: https://www.sporcle.com/games/mvarvaro5/mets-free-agent-pitcher-acquisitions This one's definitely missing a few as well.
  19. How many position players can you get? https://www.sporcle.com/games/mvarvaro5/mets-free-agent-position-player-acquisitions *Definitely missing at least one player.
  20. seawolf17 wrote: It's funny, because at 41 (!), I have no memories of him as a Met. My first Seaver memories are end-of-career things like his 1983 Topps Reds card and his 300th win with the White Sox against the Yankees. His being with the Red Sox in 1986 didn't even register with me at the time. Yup. I vaguely remember him in 83? Remember wondering why everyone said he was so good. Seemed ok. Then he was gone. Remember a failed comeback bid in spring of 87. Remember that it meant more to older fans than to me. Mainly I remember him as a smug annoying announcer who somehow made Gary Thorne even worse. But there was also the time at Shea Stadium in the elevator when he made it clear with his face that he had no intention of acknowledging the three year old boy with me who would have loved to give a high five to a Hall of Famer. So whatever. Fuck you Seaver. I guess you were once good at throwing a baseball but man do you suck as a person.
  21. David looks 45 years old and sick.
  22. Jeter: Hey, do you guys want Dee Gordon? He can be had for the right offer. Alderson: I'm sorry. I stopped listening after Gordon. Jeter: He's still good! He can steal 50 bases, and he plays great defense! Alderson: What do you know about defense? Ouch. OUCH.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Using him elsewhere, even if only occasionally, would help solve the short bench problem. He mostly DH'd in Japan, and even then only in games that were several days prior to his scheduled starts which typically are once per week over there. That's part of why the DH league would be a better showcase for his talents. Yeah. I can't see him coming to the NL given this. I don't hold out much hope that he'll be a Met. I just hope like hell he's doesn't go to the MFY's. But I'd say it's 50/50 he ends up there.
  24. Hopefully the conversation was along the lines of: Miami: Hey do you guys want Dee Gordon? Mets: Fuck no, he sucks. What else you got?
