  1. How cute it is that as of just a few weeks ago, we thought that it was actually possible that the Mets could add one big shot.
  2. Clearly the Mets are waiting for the markets on Hosmer and Martinez to heat up.
  3. Dom Smith, Nimmo. Marcos Molina. Then re-sign DUDA! Or Hosmer. I'd be cool with Hosmer.
  4. Isn't that funny? So many years ago. We have no idea who he actually is. But left such an impression on our lives.
  5. Yeah. I wish I knew more about him. I guess Minor and Morrow are one year wonders too, but they were like, better.
  6. Actually, your offer is more appealing to the Marlins without Harvey.
  7. Love Yelich. Send them Harv!
  8. I think I'd be ok with Reed too. His stuff does make a me a little nervous. Not really dominant stuff, so you wonder if he loses just the littlest edge, he could slide backward pretty quickly. But we need reliable arms, and options are dwindling. I still want Wade Davis. Really, the only difference maker out there. Or if they wanted to bring in an established starter, I feel like Gsellman could be pretty effective out of the pen.
  9. Payroll? No problem. Sandy's got it under control. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/sandy-alderson-insists-mets-payroll-won-obstacle-article-1.3694193 "I know a lot of attention is paid to payroll. I know a lot of attention is paid to payroll, but we had a pretty good payroll last year and it went down because of some trades and so forth and I expect we will have a healthy payroll this year," Alderson said. Well, that at least sounds encouraging right? Maybe Sandy is just waiting for the top of the market to fall so he can get a steal like the Indians did with Edwin Encarnacion!
  10. I’m glad that we didn’t dump Harvey for a middle reliever today. In much the same way I’m glad Alabama didn’t left a pedophile. It’s shameful that we even have to worry about this, but glad it didn’t turn out worse.

  12. Yes, JCL and BG are right. Right after the 2015 would have been the time to trade him. But seriously, what benefit do we get from doing it now? Nothing at all to back this up, but I feel like Matt Harvey is going to be solid in 2018. Maybe even better than solid. I hope it's for us.
  13. Nymr83 wrote: Cut Jeter some slack, how far are the winter meetings from Miami? He probably didn't have the range to get there in time. Nice. Lol.
  14. smg58 wrote: Harvey would have been non-tendered if the Mets were simply looking to dump him. Which means if they offer him to other teams, they are expecting value in return. Certainly. They realize there is value in a player with as much upside to Harvey. That's why there is value. But that's also why you keep him. To possibly take advantage of that upside. And if it doesn't work out? Well then you write off that salary. What do you get by trading him? A middle reliever? Then you lose that potential, and you get a middle reliever. Something that that is bountiful out there right now, with no personnel sacrifice necessary. It's money.
  15. First off, there are plenty of instances where it looks like Harvey has acted in a way that fans and media found him annoying. But I've never heard one report, one suggestion, that he wasn't well liked by his teammates. So yes, if one is going to make that statement, it should be backed up with specifics. If they are all over the place, citing 2-3 shouldn't be difficult. But most importantly, dumping Harvey has nothing to do with whether or not he's an asshole. It's about the money. I don't know why we pretend it's anything but that. It's money.
  16. There is absolutely no reason to give up on Harvey for a middle reliever considering how many are available for nothing. If this happens I will absolutely lose my shit. This would mean we can’t sign middle relievers without dumping salary. This is really bad.
  17. I think you guys give Alderson too much credit for being coy. In 2015 he spent his time justifying not bringing back Yo, even going as far as to sign his replacement until Cespedes came back to them. In 2016, when it was clear they wanted to resign him, the language was much different. He telegraphed that he wanted to trade Jay Bruce, and also stated definitely that they later had committed to him in RF when there was no market. So no, his words are not meaningless. Sure, maybe he always tempers expectations a bit, but his words also serve as a precursor to his actions. You saw from Stanton. Part of the draw of a team is showing a free agent you are committed to winning and surrounding that player with talent around him. It serves absolutely no purpose to state you are out of money other than to temper fan expectations. Does anyone really think this is just a smokescreen and the Mets will come light the world on fire this offseason? And I don’t see any drama in seeing whether a mediocre team stays mediocre through trades or fee agency.
  18. Kristie Ackert says the Mets are talking to teams to move Harvey for middle relief. Maybe Jason Middlebrooks is available. As if they couldn’t get any dumber. Not sure how much more of this I can take. This weekend needs to end.
  19. Nymr83 wrote: Expectations about the winter meetings, the Mets off-season, or the 2018 season? They are all related but not the same. I took it to mean he was tempering expectations for the Mets offseason. But he wasn’t exactly pumped about 2018 either. Said something like “we’re going to be as good as we can possibly be”. Which is like something you say to someone who is not very good at something. I think he also said that he hopes the Mets can be competitive. Or something like that. I was reading them felt sick.
  20. Specifically, middle relievers are too expensive. Closers, it appears, are not even in the picture. Stanton was too expensive. Starting pitching is not a priority, and whoever they get for first base won’t block Dom Smith. Oh and our farm system sucks. So, when is everyone willing to admit payroll matters?
  21. Or Marcelo Ozuna. I’d be down with that.
  22. Kick off today. Lots of articles today about Alderson. His tone seems a lot less optimistic than years past. His goal, if you read between the lines, appears to be to temper expectations. Sandy, expectations were pretty low to begin with.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'd feel much better about this if Stanton was 33. But I looked it up and he's only 28! Yeah. It’s as bad as it can be. They have a loaded young core. Tons of money coming off the books, all of which will be reinvested. A strong farm system and smart people in charge. Any move that doesn’t work can be addressed by further moves. Players know this making them an even more attractive landing spot, even beyond their individual contracts. They are set up for years to come. Our Octobers will be much like this past one. Where we hope some team puts it together enough to keep them from winning it all.
  24. Not a knock on you or Castro but this makes me want to hurl. MFY fans are jubilant that they got Stanton for nothing. Now we are hoping to dig through those scraps. Makes me sick. As for Castro, career 733 ops. Doesn’t walk. Middling power. Expensive. Costs players. Pass. Rather give it to Flores.
  25. This is so typical Mets. Everyone is pissed off that the Yankees got Stanton for dick. Mets reaction. Hey! Maybe we can get dick!
