  1. I think you are missing the point. The ARod contract went just as bad as everyone said it would. $21 million for a player over 40? Foolish. But they got, for years, MVP caliber performance. Post seasons nearly every year. A World Championship. And when he was no longer able to perform, they spent more and got other players. This is a win any way you slice it. The reason everyone wanted ARod then is if the Mets ever had 17 year run like the Yankees just had it would absolutely be the Golden Era of this franchise.
  2. The Yankees carried Alex Rodriguez’s salary this season. They seemed to do fine. We can talk about these albatross contracts like ARod and AGon and try to comfort ourselves that way. But the fact of the matter is the guys guilty of these terrible deals were in the LCS and WS.
  3. The “payroll doesn’t matter” bullshit is hardly limited to this forum. It’s rampant throughout the media and among pseudo intellectual half fans who think they are being cutting edge by saying “People don’t get it’s not about how much you spend. I’ve said it all along...it’s about spending wisely!”
  4. And I’m just thinking about the MFY fans going nuts and saying “Jeter comes through again!l” Makes me sick.
  5. Joel Sherman is reporting Starlin Castro and good, but not top, prospects going the other way. They are going to get Stanton without giving up their top prospects. But who cares about payroll right?
  6. I don’t see Judge going. Stanton/Yankees have the upper hand here and the Marlins know it. They were one win away from the World Series and they are going after Giancarlo Fucking Stanton. Check that, Giancarlo Fucking Stanton is going after them because he believes in their commitment to winning. We are a borough away and we are basically invisible. If this happens they’ll have the NL MVP and the AL MVP runner up. But hey. Brian Shaw. Woohoo.
  7. We can joke all we want, but the fact that Stanton is willing to go to the Yankees but not the Mets speaks volumes. There is only one team in NY committed to winning and Stanton knows which team that is.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Stanton has a no-trade clause, and he's submitted a list of teams that he will waive that clause for, and while the Yanks, Dogies, Cubbers, and Stros are on the list, the Gigantes and Cards ain't. It seems like he's intent on making sure he plays in the 2017 post-season.
  9. This is a great deal since it means he will not be a Met.
  10. Agreed. Though four years is definitely on the high side for a LOOGY with arm issues, but ultimately I think the lure of being in the rotation swung it to Texas. It's too bad. I felt like a dominant lefty would have made a huge difference. Guess we'll just have to get Wade Davis instead.
  11. Braves sign infielder Christian Colon to a minor league contract. https://sports.yahoo.com/braves-sign-christian-colon-155400291.html Hey, the hot stove is slow. I got nothing else.

  13. I think that's a nice pic of Callaway and the fist bump kinda illustrates the youngish approach he'll bring over Collins. But it seems counterintuitive to vote for a "Met" wearing a Cleveland uniform. Love the picture of Cespedes, but don't like the weird floating Harvey and the odd choice to put the 3 in bold red.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: 8. It's easy to forget, but while the 2000 NLDS seems to have gone like a breeze as the Mets won 3-1, wrapping it up with Bobby Jones' one-hitter, it didn't start off that way. The Giants won Game One handily, 5-1, and came back in game two with three in the ninth to tie the score at 4. With two outs in the 10th, Darryl came on to pinch-hit for Joe McEwing, and doubled to centerfield off of Felix Rodriguez, then came around to score the winning run on a Jay Payton single, and the Mets never looked back. Huge, huge hit. So many moments in a post-season can be lost in the shuffle. Without that hit, the Mets probably don't make the World Series.
  15. Going to Texas per reports. Will be given a shot to compete for the rotation.
  16. Darryl Hamilton
  17. Well if that’s the case let’s hope he goes to an AL team. Would love to see him succeed. Especially at the expense of the MFYs.
  18. A few guys on the internets are saying Dodgers now. Imagine if the Dodgers get Ohtani and Stanton? Holy crap.
  19. Hard to get behind any of these. Maybe the Mets will re-sign Cespedes again and we can add those covers to the mix.

  21. We could avoid all of this guessing by just asking Eno Sarris how Dom's career will pan out.
  22. The headlines are endless. When he does well: MINING FOR GOLD MINOR MIRACLE When he sucks: SEND HIM TO THE MINORS EVEN ROY MOORE WOULD REJECT THIS MINOR
  23. Pretty much sucked last year. And might have been lucky the year before, having a 1.28 WHIP that would suggest a higher ERA than 2.42. Throws hard though, and has a good sinker. I say we try him out in the pen. Maybe we can Wade Davis this guy. Besides, that "too cool for school" attitude I find annoying could be exactly what he needs as a reliever. Also, we are not going to have room for him in the rotation once we get Ohtani and Darvish.
  24. I think he had one good year. But as a starter. He's like a left-handed Wade Davis. Who's not quite as good but still pretty good.
  25. I'll start by saying that I don't know that I've seen this guy throw one pitch. But this converted starter had a real nice year for KC last year. Maybe he wants to reunite with his pitching coach? 1.02 WHIP, 2.55 ERA, held lefties to a .163 average. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/30624/mike-minor May not be cheap. According to the Heyman article, projections were: Expert: $32M/4 years. Heyman: $24M/3 years. But only 29 years old and plenty left in the tank. Although we were intent on testing it, Jerry Blevins can't pitch every day.
