  1. Bartolo Colon has a perfect game through 4. On Sunday Night baseball NOW!!!!
  2. They are seven back in the loss column. As long as we don’t get swept, 7 losses will can take some time to make up.
  3. Love the sentiment behind Jackie Robinson Day. Not sure I feel the same about the 42 tradition. Seems a bit unnecessary and silly and detracts from the overall, serious message. I feel like announcers and fans get caught up making dumb “it’s 42 again, he’s everywhere” jokes.
  4. Yeah, hairline fracture, out 2-3 weeks. So I'm guessing they do nothing.
  5. I think it was FK that said he's surprised when a 100 MPH pitch hits a hand and it's broken. Well, be surprised no more. I would guess 12 weeks for a hand fracture. See you at the AS Break. Um, so yeah, we need a catcher. I guess maybe you take a flyer on Montero or something?
  6. I come out on the other side. I think framing is a skill and have no problem with one catcher being better at it than another. Certainly at lower levels, where the quality of pitching, catching and umpiring is not as high, framing is a big factor.
  7. For the record, I wouldn't give up Nimmo for Realmuto. I think JT is a good, but not great hitter. I think Nimmo can be great. I think an easy fix is Wilson Ramos. The guy can hit, is healthy now, and won't cost much in terms of a return. He makes a lot of money, but that shouldn't be a hurdle for a team like the Mets.
  8. I would guess Dom Smith and Nimmo. Maybe a pitcher too.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: They were 18 games over in 2015, and 12 over in 2016. Of course, prior to 2015 there were six consecutive seasons where they failed to win 80 games. We're going to win 80 before the end of April WRITE IT DOWN.
  10. From Baseball Reference: A hold is an unofficial statistic that measures the effectiveness of middle relievers. A hold is granted to a relief pitcher who enters a game with his team in the lead in a save situation, and hands over that lead to another reliever without the score having been tied in the interim. A pitcher cannot get credit for a hold in a game in which he is credited with either a win or a save (except in the very exceptional situation where a pitcher moves to another position and later resumes pitching); It is possible for a pitcher to receive a hold and a loss in the same game should he exit with the lead, only to see his bequeathed runners score the tying and go-ahead runs. A pitcher who comes into a game and is eligible for a hold and fails in his mission is charged with a blown save; there is no such thing as a blown hold. As the hold is not an official statistic, there is no consensus whether a pitcher needs to record an out or pitch effectively to get credit for a hold. Some compilers consider that the mere fact of not surrendering the lead is sufficient, while most observers consider that the other two criteria should also apply. The lack of consensus on this issue means that hold totals vary from source to source. I didn't realize it was an unofficial statistic. I would think it should definitely be a criteria that you record an out. Also, if you leave runners on base that eventually score, it's hard to justify a hold. In the most liberal of definitions, a pitcher come conceivably come into a one run game, walk three batters, leave, the next guy gives up a grand slam, and that pitcher is still awarded a hold.
  11. I'm guessing they'd want Dominic Smith at the least. It would be a tough call if they did. I guess if you have faith in Alonso you pull the trigger on that. I still think Plawecki can be good. If we can get a glove guy who guns down baserunners to back him up I'd be ok with that.
  12. Yeah, that is weird. So let's replay that inning. 4-1 Mets. Blevins comes in and gets one out. Ramos comes in and gets one out, but also puts a runner on. Then Familia comes in and gets the final out. Blevins Hold, Ramos Hold, Familia Save?

I don't think we ever got an answer on this. 14. A few thoughts: 1. Was convinced throughout most of the game that this is when the streak ends. Some rookie lefty who has our number. On the same day that Travis gets hurt. Never really thought we might get no-hit until their SS robbed Wilmer in the 7th. Then it was like, oh shit. This might happen. Thrilled when we came back to win. This team is so much fun. 2. A couple of nitpicks. Would definitely have pinch run for Plawecki in the 8th. I never understood the "I can't pinch hit or pinch run for my catcher rule". I get it, that you don't want to get stuck, but it's the 8th inning and you need that run. Pinch run Reyes. Especially since Nido was likely needed anyway. Also, I would have preferred to keep Gsellman in for the second inning, but understand going with someone else. I don't agree with bringing in Blevins. Was that really necessary with a 3 run lead against the Marlins? I feel like with Jerry being the one lefty, we should try to skip him whenever possible. I know we have an off day, but Eric Thames and Bryce Harper are coming into town. 3. If we can't play the Marlins every day, can we just ask Mattingly to manage our opponent, whoever that might be? Love Donnie Baseball.
  15. Did Ramos get the save?

  17. THE DEFINITIVE REPORT ON GLOBE LIFE PARK IN ARLINGTON Went there with the family for the first weekend of the season. The park is just ok. It was built in the early 90's, so the seats are not angled in toward the mound like they are in the newer stadiums. We sat out along the RF line and ended up having to look over our neighbor's shoulder the whole time. If I went again, I'd sit high, but try to sit somewhere in the infield. Nothing really special about the ballpark, but it's a nice place to watch a game. The parking situation sucks when you consider there is nothing around this for miles, and it's Texas, and you figure there's all the space in the world. Go early because it will take longer to get a spot than you think. Everyone there is super friendly. Basically they hate the Yankees and Red Sox, but they're ok with Mets fans. We bought gear for the game and wore it around for the rest of our trip to Dallas. (Rule is we can do this when we visit AL Teams, NL teams are still sworn enemies). You would think there would be cool BBQ places and stuff like that, but it was just standard ballpark fare. Everyone said to get the funnel cake. It was just ok. Maybe even disappointing. This was delicious though. The locals all love it. They call it Vitamin Z. When a Ranger hits a home run, they shoot off fireworks and these girls with flags run back and forth. I guess the score doesn't count. The Rangers were down by a lot but it still didn't stop them. Ranger Captain is their mascot. Some sort of horse. He sucks. He was in our section and my kids asked for a pic. He said he'd come right back but never did. Dickhead. Cool moment. Ms. Field and Even Shorter Center made it to the Jumbotron. Forgot what song they were dancing to, but it was fun. Anyway, definitely worth a trip if you are in the area, but it won't make anyone's list of favorites.
  18. Actual worries: 1. Like Edgy mentioned, no second lefty out of the pen. 2. Harvey looks like crap. He's not as bad as last year, but he's a middling 5 inning guy. If this is our #3, that's not going to be good enough to get by Washington. 3. Overworked pen. 4. My predictions of awesomeness for Plawecki, Lagares and Cecchini are taking longer to materialize. My predictions of awesomeness for Nimmo and bullpen Gsellman are working out, but Nimmo's been demoted and Gsellman's arm's about to fall off. Fake worries: 1. When they actually lose I'm going to throw tantrums like a spoiled kid.
  19. You notice that Curtis Granderson is slashing .360/.448/.520 in April and think to yourself "Good for him!" rather than "Seriously dude? Four years of hitting .119 in April and you do this now?
  20. Who had that ten game win streak back in 2015?
  21. Caleb Smith has made 6 career starts. None of them longer than 5.1 innings. He has a 1.80 WHIP this year, slightly higher than his career WHIP of 1.70. His career ERA is 6.67. In his last start against Philadelphia, he took the loss after pitching 3 innings, giving up 3 ER, and walking 6 batters. What I'm saying is, this guy is going to throw a 2 hit shutout tonight.
  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: Cespedes needs a night off. He's looking logy, and he's supposedly been under the weather. Winning ugly is okay. I was thinking the same thing. But they're throwing a lefty tonight. Last night was the game to rest him. Could have started Nimmo.
  23. Ceetar wrote: gets experimental bionic implants. no one knows what to do. comes back July 1st and hits 45 home runs. Donates entire years income to making the bionic implants a viable cure for spinal stenosis. 7 HR in the World Series, front and center of the World Series parade. Does a lot of press during the offseason. His new nickname is Cyborg. Something seems off in his demeanor in his offseason press tour though, but we just chalk it up to all he's gone through. He's still mashing in April 2019, but he's developed a temper. May 3rd he literally steps in front of Amed Rosario to make a play. Rosario has words, and it almost comes to blows. Things calm down for a while after that, Wright is apologetic and seemingly back to normal until May 22nd. On May 22nd, a schedule off day, Cespedes is scheduled to bat in the bottom of the 9th of a game the Mets are trailing 3-2. Cespedes is in a 3 for 29 slump but we're hoping this will break him out of it. Conforto walks and Cespedes puts his bat down when David leaps out of the dugout and tells Cespedes he's being pinch hit for. Cespedes, livid, goes to yell at Mickey who had no idea, while David takes the at-bat. David homers to walk it off but instead of a pileup at home Cespedes is halfway up the third base line screaming at him. Gelbs tries to get Wright to do the usual post-game interview on the field but Wright shoves him aside and goes into the clubhouse. His postgame comments amount to "Yoenis was going to strike out. I won the game, what more do you want?" David and Cespedes are not in the lineup the next day and the press is locked out from the clubhouse. No one will comment. The next day it's announced that both players are on the DL. Cespedes with facial contusions, Wright with an unspecified illness. It's the last we ever see of David in a Mets uniform. Love it. Best post of 2018.
  24. Great KTE. Wednesday's starter - Jarlin Garcia, don't know shit about this guy either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ LOLOL. Jose Urena. I kinda need to know if we are going to give him a urine-based nickname, or a "Ur Anus" based nickname. This shit is important.
  25. That lineup looks deadly even without Murphy. Harper is Harper. Rendon is a terrific hitter and may actually be underrated. Eaton is your deal leadoff guy. All we can hope for is regression from Zimmerman, for Turner to not pan out, and for a few guys to get injured.
