  1. That’s a lot more than I thought he’d get. Philly likely overpaid, but our path to any Wild Card just got harder.
  2. So that makes me want to hurl.
  3. We should sign him. Move Frazier to 1B or Cabrera to the bench.
  4. cooby wrote: Whoops, no that's Ron Swaboda. Always mixed them up Well that's just great cooby. Now he's never going to post.
  5. So Gay Dames are almost upon us, and we haven't designated an official CPF play hooky spot. I'm on 46 and Lex. Just moved into this office last week so I don't know the area at all. Where are we meeting? Requirements for our venue: *big TV's *beer *no douchebags
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'll take that bet just for fun. One beer on the line. These bets are the best. Win or lose you drink a beer with JCL. Which reminds me. We should set a midtown play-hooky spot for Gay Dames soon.
  7. I would bet Arrieta outpitches all three of them. And even if he doesn't, the question is not whether Jake will outpitch all three of them. It's whether all three will outpitch Jake. There are three rotation spots available behind deGrom and Noah. As of right now, I'd pick Arrieta comfortably in 3rd place.
  8. Or, put another way, would you have preferred signing both Frazier and Moustakas, move Frazier to 1B and cut Gonzalez? I don't know. It's crazy to see how cheap all these guys are going. Carlos Gonzalez is about to sign a bargain-basement deal too. If we are going reclamation projects, I wouldn't have minded giving him a try. Move Bruce to 1B.
  9. Moustakas is a better hitter than Frazier, and costs less. Would you have given up a 2nd rounder for 1 year of the Moose?
  10. But the real story in this thread is why metfairy hasn't posted in 5 months. Should we reach out? Not the same without her.
  11. MFS62 wrote: I thought I was carrying on a long-time CPF tradition and didn't know the origins of it. I have nothing against the guy. And now that I think about it, anyone who can challenge or erase records held by Pete Rose is a hero in my book. Go Ichiro. Later So, all kidding aside, I've always had a great admiration for the dedication and success that the guy has had. Has always handled himself like a class act. No controversies, no bad press in now 18 years of MLB. When he was younger I thought he came across as arrogant and douchy. But I always thought it might be because we didn't know him well. I remember how people used to get ticked off about Shinjo, when we all knew he had not an ounce of bad intent. I actually really got a kick out of the humidor story when I first heard it. It reminded me of the "Keep bats warm" scene from Major League. I remember thinking this guy is like a real-life Cerrano. Reading this article, it's pretty clear that this guy is battling some pretty severe personal demons, and likely has some form of autism or OCD. And like MFS says, anyone who can take down Pete Rose's record (or at least make him sweat) is ok in my book.
  12. Montero sucks. Matz sucks. Harvey will never be an ace again. Go get Jake Arrieta.
  13. One year deal plus a mutual option. 5.5 base with about $2 million in incentives. An absolute steal. Gotta figure the draft pick compensation played a huge factor.
  14. By the way, don't like Ichiro? You might be part Korean! "I want to beat South Korea so badly," Ichiro said, "that the South Koreans won't want to play Japan for another 30 years." You think Red Sox-Yankees is intense? Try throwing in decades of military occupation, annihilation of the language, customs and historical artifacts, and turning young girls into sex slaves. That will really up the stakes a bit. Ichiro didn't help matters much with the quote above. Then there was this game (including an appearance by CPF favorite Dae-Sung Koo!) https://www.seattlepi.com/sports/baseball/article/Ichiro-forced-to-eat-words-1198594.php After which, Ichiro said it was "the most humiliating day of my career". Ouch. My wife's aunt lived with us for many years when the kids were young. She barely took any interest in the Mets games that were on TV nightly at our place. But when South Korea was in the World Baseball Classic, she made me look like a casual fan. Try mentioning the name Ichiro to her. Then duck.
  15. If it's apples to apples, shouldn't we get an opportunity to fuck Esther Williams?
  16. Life is funny. Our young shortstop phenom can't stay on the field because of leg injuries. Good thing we have Jose Reyes.
  17. Point of discussion: Game 6 and Frequency are both fine films. Are they baseball films? I haven't seen Game 6. I liked Frequency a lot. But I don't think it's a baseball film. You know what else wasn't a baseball film? Stealing Home with Mark Harmon and Jodie Foster. Hey, what are we doing tonight? College GF: Let's stay in. I rented a video. But you always pick crappy movies Don't worry. This one's about baseball. A minor leaguer. Like that movie you like. Bull Durham? Yeah, it's supposed to be like that. You'll like it.
  18. Bull Durham is easily my favorite. Mine too. I love every minute of that movie. In first place by a comfortable margin. My list: 1. Bull Durham 2. Major League 3. A League of Their Own 4. Field of Dreams 5. The Natural 6. Bad News Bears All the other movies either I haven't seen them or they didn't leave much of an impression on me. I know I've seen Moneyball, the movie where the kid can suddenly pitch, the movie where the kid inherits the team, and the one where Dennis Quaid plays the old guy. I also saw the douchefest Billy Crystal movie about Roger Maris.
  19. Want to report that I threw a simulated game today. I was awesome.
  20. I think we need to hear more about this conference.
  21. Thanks guys! All I know of Dealey Plaza is that it's where Kennedy was shot. Worth the trip?
  22. Watched the Nimmo HR on my phone. I think Nimmo could round the bases twice in the time it takes Rickey Henderson to round them once.
  23. I'm reading 3 scoreless for Harv, sat between 92-95 mph. Threw a lot of off-speed stuff that seems better than last year.
  24. Worries: 1. Harvey. Haven't heard raves that this year is "totally different". Meaning he might well be the same trash or some mediocre version of it this year. 2. Matz. Um. Yeah. I feel like our starting pitching, which is supposed to be strong, will be really disappointing again. 3. Bullpen. I feel like we'll have enough righties to get by. But we need a left hander or three. 4. First Base. AGon looks old and slow. Didn't like that he needs 2 hours of treatment every day just to get in shape. I have a feeling that not getting Logan Morrison or Duda at cheap will come back to haunt us. Smith seems kinda dumb, short for 1B, and now he's hurt. 5. Amed Rosario. Take a walk dude. 6. That we missed out on someone who will be a huge bargain. Arrieta, or Lynn, or maybe Neil Walker. 7. Super-Jack Juan Lagares hurt again. Reasons for Optimism: 1. Nimmo. He could be really good. Already has OBP and now the power is starting to emerge. Crushes them when he gets a hold of them. Maybe Jay Bruce can solve our 1B problem after Conforto gets back. 2. Cecchini! Proving that "changed my launch angle" is the new BSOHL 3. Noah looks terrific. 4. No setbacks (knock on wood) for Conforto.
  25. How does Harv look guys? It occurs to me he was mid 90's last fall, and he still stunk. More life on his pitches? Secondary stuff have any bite?
