  1. =dgwphotography post_id=9552 time=1557367084 user_id=78] =batmagadanleadoff post_id=9497 time=1557345964 user_id=68] Anybody ever heard of a dumber, more moronic idea than that one?
  2. I feel like Conforto gets robbed on calls more than any other Met. Did he bang an ump's wife or something? WTF.
  3. Did you guys hear it during the broadcast the other night? Gary Cohen says he asked Familia directly. Familia says it's pronounced Jay-ooh-Rees. Sure as hell sounded like "Jerry" when I heard him in the promo.
  4. I don't know if this is a quirk, but I meant to mention another reason why Gary Cohen is awesome. As if you needed another one. The other night, when they were talking about Petco Park, Gary Cohen referenced the Padres old home a few times. Like he has every time I've ever heard him, he called it Jack Murphy Stadium. I remember when he and Bob Murphy were a duo, they would always refer to it as Jack Murphy Stadium ("We are live from Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego..."), even years after it had been re-named "Qualcomm". But even now, in 2019, 15 years after Bob's passing, Gary has stuck to it. We should acknowledge that this is not a mistake. Gary Cohen is a stickler about things, and especially names, even painstakingly making an effort to pronounce everything correctly. This is an intentional act of respect to his former broadcast partner. I think that's cool. I try to do it too. But sometimes catch myself. Anyway, for those keeping track at home: Mentioning Qualcomm when it's not relevant: Douchiest thing ever Refusing to mention Qualcomm even when you're supposed to: Greatest guy in the world
  5. The Mets won the World Series. That cover could be a picture of my ass and I would still vote for it. I can think of a bunch of polls that Rip City and Ice would win handily.
  6. Agreed. They're going to win today 11-2, and everyone will be like "save some runs for tomorrow". And they won't. And we'll lose 2 of 3.
  7. That's a pretty amazing streak. There have already been two games this year where I was caught up in something and realized that I had missed the game. Checked the score after and saw they lost both.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, I'm down about that too. Also, the team established an offensive approach that was working, and he seems dead set on abandoning it. What drives me crazy is that the guy hitting .350 sees a strange infield alignment, then places a bunt that makes them pay for it. For good measure, he bunts it foul first, telegraphing his intent to bunt against the shift, then does it again making them look even more foolish. And then the rest of the lineup (who are not hitting .350) looks at that and says "Oh that was cool". And goes back to whacking away into the shift.
  9. =Fman99 post_id=9351 time=1557229629 user_id=86] Maybe we need to, you know, start these things before the games start. For good luck and shit.
  10. =G-Fafif post_id=9346 time=1557217149 user_id=55] While one streak, the losing, reaches four, another snaps. Enough circumstances converged to put me to sleep before first pitch and not wake me until after last pitch, telecast ensuing in front of me notwithstanding. First Mets game I've missed in its entirety since July 29, 2010. The streak was 1,388 regular-season games (plus 14 postseason contests). The record was 669-719 (plus 8-6). If only the sound of Met lumber had shaken me from my slumber.
  11. I don't think its a good thing.
  12. I would say that's more a product of the competition than Willie having a great cover. I mean, a washed up Mays itching his head...
  13. I feel bad for Frank. He's not exactly a household face. He gets a magazine cover, and his name couldn't be printed any smaller.
  14. That's a good point.
  15. Yeah, I don't think it tells the whole story, but certainly that big difference can't be explained by throw away runs. That being said, it seems impossible that the Mets are 36 runs worse than the Phillies. That can't be right.
  16. Newsday has the best headline, but the picture is awkward. The Post has the best picture, but the cover is cluttered. No need for the insert. The News has the best overall cover.
  17. That documentary made me realize how much I missed Razor Shines. As much as the Mets have struggled, the CPF brand continues to churn out great work. The Wilson Ramos novel. The Omir Santos documentary. The guided tours of the refurbished HQ in Stockholm. Maja's reality show. Bartolo's cologne.
  18. It's funny what we keep track of and what we don't. I think 9 year old me would have found it odd that we give a "rookie of the month" award but no longer track GW RBIs. I imagine Keith is still kinda pissed that they no longer keep track of that stat. Imagine being awesome at it, setting a record, getting this card in its honor: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51NHJoMuihL.jpghttps://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51NHJoMuihL.jpg> Thinking that it's something you can brag about, put on your HoF resume, then poof. The stat is gone.
  19. Didn't we see that run differential thing last year too? I mean for the Mets?
  20. Zach Wheeler: Um, if I had known that was like, a thing, I wouldn't have gotten my other hits.
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Jesse Wanker ejected? Please tell me everyone waved at him.
  22. Yeah, it looked like Pete could use a day off.
  23. I'm blaming: 1. Wilpons. It's always the Wilpons. An extra $30 million spent wisely and we'd be comfortably in first place. 2. BVW. I don't know that he's been as bad as JCL says, but he's not been great. I hated the Cano trade. Gave up way too much. The Lowrie decision was a head scratcher, considering we didn't need any infielders and we needed pitching badly. Justin Wilson isn't good. It's a bad sign when fans of your old team celebrate you signing with a different one. I liked the Ramos deal at the time and I think he'll get better. I'm most disappointed by Familia. Dude can't throw a strike anymore. WTF. But I think part of his problem is... 3. The baseballs. I hate how MLB insults our intelligence and thinks they can just do whatever the fuck they want. Manfred is a Selig pawn. So clear now. 4. Our starting pitching. Our big three have to be better. They've been comically bad. 5. Familia. Dude, figure out a way to throw a strike.
  24. We may not be a very good team.
