But on the field, I can't forget that Saturday afternoon implosion against the Yanks in 2006. 4-0 lead entering the 9th, single, walk, single, fly out, walk, walk, HBP. Mets lost in 11, with the immortal Jorge Julio taking the loss. Edgy DC Aug 25 2009 12:26 PM I can't forget how angry I was that he was even in the game. It stunk of panic in a game the Mets had in hand. bmfc1 Aug 25 2009 12:33 PM I can't think of anything positive. When he pitched on Friday and looked so good, I was wondering where that was in '07 and '08 and how history could have been different if he was available in at least one of those two Septembers. Valadius Aug 25 2009 12:47 PM I really liked him, for whatever reason. One of the top three closers of his generation, giant upgrade over Looper. sharpie Aug 25 2009 12:47 PM He struck out the side to get the save in the CPF Dodgers game of last year. Other than that I don't have a lot good to say. The next thing I thought of was him not being able to get on the field in Florida during the home stretch in 2007. For all of that, I mostly enjoyed watching him pitch. OlerudOwned Aug 25 2009 01:12 PM Game 2 of the 2006 NLCS was the first and only playoff game I've attended. So Taguchi only had 2 damned home runs in the '06 regular season. Buh. But I just can't get excited over closers. G-Fafif Aug 25 2009 01:59 PM Preserved a Glavine gem on Ralph Kiner Night. I didn't like Glavine, I wasn't crazy about Wagner, but I sure do love Ralph Kiner. Billy and Paulie embracing upon clinching of the Mets' first division title in 18 years, as if they were the ones who waited 18 years. Ryan Zimmerman preventing a 9-0 start in '06, though a) you can't prove it would have happened and 8-1 was pretty good. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 25 2009 02:09 PM ="Edgy DC"]I can't forget how angry I was that he was even in the game. It stunk of panic in a game the Mets had in hand. Ditto. One of the few times in my life where I could actually feel my face reddening. I got KYP Rook, the MFY 4-0 lead, and So Taguchi. I do have a few images of late summer 2006 that make me smile, though, to leaven it. Also: ]"Somebody want to tell me why the closer is being interviewed and I didn't even play," Wagner said in an expletive-laced tirade, "and why they are over there and not being interviewed? I got it; they're gone. (expletive) shocker." seawolf17 Aug 25 2009 02:12 PM He raises llamas; I've used "Billy Wagner's Llamas" as a fantasy team name in the past. Gwreck Aug 25 2009 02:21 PM I believe the animal in the avatar directly above your post is actually an alpaca. metirish Aug 25 2009 02:28 PM ="G-Fafif":1saux1au]Preserved a Glavine gem on Ralph Kiner Night. It's only after I read your posts that I remember individual instances like that. I have a foggy memory of him mowing didn the Yankees 1 2 3 but don't ask me when. Farmer Ted Aug 25 2009 02:37 PM I never had a problem with Wagner other than the 2006 NLCS. Spoke his mind and didn't give a fuck about hurting anyone's feelings. I hope he knocks Papelbon's teeth out. Nymr83 Aug 25 2009 02:51 PM i thought this was supposed to be dead in the water and then i see a "memories of" thread. sadly the legacy of wagner to me is him not being there when the bullpen imploded down the stretch in 2008. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 25 2009 03:50 PM ="Benjamin Grimm":356z0pnq]I'll probably remember the venom that Johnny Lunchbucket feels for Billy.[/quote:356z0pnq] I don't want to come off as a hater, but my reason for "hating" Wagner was a little bit about how he burned every bridge in Philly and Houston on his way out of those towns; and left their fans heartbroken and betrayed, and how when he came to the Mets he was hailed as the kind of guy who wouldn't do that -- then did. In the end he was crap in the 06 postseason, not a great teammate, and ultimately fragile and unreliable. We'd have done just as well signing Braden Looper for his tenure here. Now watch him go set fire to the Red Sox. Edgy DC Aug 25 2009 05:44 PM 'Bucket, I'm sending you a facebook mail NOW!!!! Ashie62 Aug 25 2009 05:50 PM My memory of Wagner is belowing Pedros 3 run lead against the MFY'S in midsummer in 06 I beleive. I was there and didn't smile til our group got to Virgil's

="bmfc1":2r4heb73] Francoeur woke up with swelling in his thumb. He's at the Hospital for Special Surgery this morning. [/quote:2r4heb73] See you in St. Lucie, Jeff! Rockin' Doc Aug 24 2009 11:10 AM The Mets are so decimated by injuries that they can't even send out their "B" team any longer. Castillo and Murphy are the only players in today's line up that were expected to be regulars at the start of the season. Fman99 Aug 24 2009 11:14 AM ="Edgy DC":1192hbom]Used to happen to me all the time whenever I'd line into a triple play.[/quote:1192hbom] He came up grimacing yesterday on the sliding catch that was initially ruled a trap and then overturned. It looked like he landed right on that thumb at the time. metsguyinmichigan Aug 24 2009 11:15 AM This might be the absolute worst lineup they've thrown out there all year, and that's saying something. If Parnell gives up less than three runs, he shouldn't even be tagged with a loss -- just say it was "offensive indifference." Centerfield Aug 24 2009 11:19 AM Luis Castillo, Ironman Fman99 Aug 24 2009 11:22 AM Ugh. metsguyinmichigan Aug 24 2009 11:22 AM Screw that, he's already given up three runs! Hit batsman, error and Howard blast. bmfc1 Aug 24 2009 11:26 AM Re: IGT--Phillies @ Mets, 08/24/09 ="HahnSolo":31pddce8]="bmfc1":31pddce8] Francoeur woke up with swelling in his thumb. Valadius Aug 24 2009 11:28 AM Amidst all the suckage, Castillo has quietly upped his batting average from .300 to .321 in the last ten days. Valadius Aug 24 2009 11:29 AM Wait, what the hell just happened with Pagan? bmfc1 Aug 24 2009 11:30 AM So over two consecutive games, the top of the first had 3 3-run homeruns, and in the bottom of the first, the lead-off batter went all around the bases each time. Happens all the time. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 11:30 AM ="Valadius":2gw8xmvb]Wait, what the hell just happened with Pagan?[/quote:2gw8xmvb] What he said. Anyone watching/listening to this? bmfc1 Aug 24 2009 11:33 AM Two errors by Utley. Howie and Wayne are praising Pagan for doing something that everybody should do--hustle. Utley dropped a pop-up and then threw the ball away. Pagan safe at first on 2nd baseman Utley's fielding error, Pagan scored on Utley's throwing error LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 11:36 AM So he just kept on running? Why, that's Teixeirian-level hustle! 3-2, after the Sheff triple and Tatis sac fly. The Russian is cut? Nymr83 Aug 24 2009 11:37 AM Sheffield drops a flyball, wtf? Vince Coleman Firecracker Aug 24 2009 11:37 AM Wow. Shef just dropped it. Yeesh. Fman99 Aug 24 2009 11:38 AM Another drop. Sheff's iron glove. Jeez. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 11:40 AM Well, he allowed a 'double'... but hit a triple! Net positive! bmfc1 Aug 24 2009 11:40 AM Major league baseball at its best. Howie is quoting Taggart from Blazing Saddles: "what in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?" And then they played an audio clip--it sounded like a morning zoo. seawolf17 Aug 24 2009 12:01 PM What, exactly, happened with Pagan? Forgot this was a day game and tuned into GameCast late. Ashie62 Aug 24 2009 12:05 PM OK, weirder..Verizon's homepage has Wagner demanding Mets decline 2010 option before approving trade to Red Sox He wants to sign with the Fucksox at a lower rate next season I assume Omar..do not accomodate him unless Boston coughs up Lars Anderson seawolf17 Aug 24 2009 12:08 PM ="Ashie62":1lnbxl99]OK, weirder..Verizon's homepage has Wagner demanding Mets decline 2010 option before approving trade to Red Sox He wants to sign with the Fucksox at a lower rate next season I assume Omar..do not accomodate him unless Boston coughs up Lars Anderson[/quote:1lnbxl99] Well, of course he wants to sign a contract for less money. Wouldn't you? And of course the Red Sox are going to give up their top prospect for a situational lefty who's pitched one major league inning in the last twelve months and may or may not still be hurt. Come back to this planet, Ash. Oh, and eff Ryan Howard. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 12:10 PM Eff Ryan Howard two times. Edgy DC Aug 24 2009 12:16 PM Pagan picked off. Good move, I say! LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 12:23 PM So, today, the kid's been pretty good at striking out a pitcher who had been until very recently an American Leaguer his entire major-league career. Later LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 12:42 PM Going to, like, nine pitches in each of the Cliff Lee at-bats probably didn't help that pitch count too much. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 24 2009 01:35 PM BREAKING NEWS: General Mets offensive production is still dead. On to pitch the eighth: 37 year-old asset of indeterminate value. smg58 Aug 24 2009 01:44 PM There was a report this morning that the Sox were expressing concern about Wagner's arm, as he hadn't yet pitched in this series. I'm guessing it will take more than one walk and no hits in a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to force the Mets to pull him off waivers.

Awesome as always, Greg.
-
Would a guy whose head seems to have gotten much bigger over the course of his career really be that big of a surprise steroid user?
-
"Batting leadoff, Cory Sullivan" kinda gives me the blues.
-
I'll guess DeFelice behind the plate, Ledee in center, and Michael Tucker at first.
-
Going this Friday night for the family's second trip. Promenade. Probably arriving early to do the kiddie stuff.

I mentioned to a friend a while back that if they can Omar they should look outside the organization. Cashen begat McIlvaine who begat Phillips who begat Duquette and Omar. That's a lot of promoting from within (and I know Omar left and came back...but he was very familiar with the workings of the organization). Maybe Ricco is the right guy for the job, but I'd like them to at least take a look on the other side of the fence.

Angry Player Looking for Mota in Dodger Clubhouse

That video has a WWE-backstage feel to it. -
Figgy, say it with me, "helps his own cause" with a big 2-run triple.
-
And now it is Figgy time!
-
Reed and Leiter would have been the last guys I guessed. John Franco? Bobby Jones?
-
Is Grover Cleveland Alexander the pitcher in #2? Aaron was already answered.
-
#5, without looking it up: As Blue Jays Padres Mets Mariners
-
17 right. The only one I am upset about missing is #19. That one I should have gotten.

Burkhart relayed a story from Kranepool about the Jones incident, citing that in addition to being yanked, Cleon was benched for the four games following the doubleheader. Kranepool hinted that the four games gave Swoboda an opportunity and he got red hot. So I figured, let me look it up. Sure enough, Cleon was benched for those four games, and Swoboda started in left in each game. Alas, he wasn't so hot. He went 0 for 10 in those starts.
-
What a head of hair on Steve Zabriskie.
-
That he was fired, or that the presser isn't for something else?
-
One out away, and Jason Bartlett up.
-
Now 3 outs from perfection. Perhaps more remarkable is that Ramon Castro is 3 outs from catching a perfect game.
