  1. The Bartman 30 for 30 was one of their best.
  2. As the saying goes, they don't walk off the island. Apparently they don't take elevators off the island either.

It is common that a group of Dominicans will get on the elevator with me in the morning, and they will stare at the buttons as if the numerals were in Klingon. In order to move things along, i'll just reach over and push the 4th floor button, and they are grateful. Then the elevator stops on the 4th floor and, despite the elevator, showing a "4", and the signs on the floor indicating "4", they have no idea what to do, so I'll say "quatro" and they'll look surprised and get off, looking around as if it were the emerald city. While stopped there on 4, some other Dominicans will start to get on the elevator and i'll have to announce that we're going up (pointing up), despite the colored light indicators above the door that shows the elevator is going up. For all my services on their behalf, the DR embassy gives me (and all the other residents of the building providing similar services to the embassy guests) not a brass farthing. which is fine, i guess. It's really a very minor inconvenience to shepherd the "quatros", as they are referred to, through our complex elevating system on a daily basis. But it does raise a question. Does the number of hurricanes that blast through the Caribbean each season keep buildings in the DR to relatively short heights, making elevators rare and exotic birds there? I'm just wondering. I think my friend worked at that same building for many years...he worked at Devlin Video (or whatever it later became). He had stories too.
  4. Sounds like a slogan for Cheers. And with the crowds at Citi, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" would be an appropriate theme song.
  5. That must have been some good damn wine to make a guy who earned $20 million last year hop in his truck at 3 AM to buy lottery tickets.
  6. LaTroy Hawkins is a Met? Man I need to spend more time on this board. Or at least while I'm here get my information from threads other than Wifey Watch.
  7. Now can we add laptops or iPads to dugouts so that we don't have giant binders full of paper being wasted every night? Can't baseball think of the poor trees?
  8. So, Heyman doesn't believe in "magic" numbers, OK. Clearly true, since: Morris's credentials - most wins in the 80s! IN!! Biggio's crednetials - most doubles by a righthanded better EVER! NOT IN!!
  9. While 'willing' the Twins over the Braves in that game 7, did Morris also will Lonnie Smith to stumble around the base paths like Lindsey Lohan stepping out of a Meatpacking District club?
  10. In his defense, the guy was wearing crocs.

So, so much "winning matters" stuff, especially from ex-jocks (Harold Reynolds and Sean Casey chief among them). It's enough to make you think that ex-jocks should be eliminated in toto from any EVALUATIVE discussion, and stick only to the how-you-play analysis. Honestly, I'd much rather hear from ex-GMs like John Hart-- or even a Jim Bowden-- when you're talking about player-evaluation. Hell, just ONCE I'd like to hear someone rebut a "you never played the game/you don't know what it's like" argument with a "you never put together a player-eval/three-team trade." I, like you, actually saw this when it happened. It was classic Russo...all over the map, juggling his hands to make a point, he threw in one my favorite mispronunciations of his--"renember". My favorite moment was when Russo finished his 1-minute introductory argument, and Posnanski deadpanned, "I disagree with--literally--everything he just said."
  12. Blue Jay managerial job now a lot more appealing, I would think.
  13. LeatherRockey beau: https://twitter.com/breyocum Twitter search reveals: instagram caption reads: #repost me & breyocum, what's a bar crawl if you don't actually crawl? #blackout Who's the Met? Sorry, don't know who "LeatherRockey" is.
  14. Ventura, Redmond, Weiss. Maybe this is the new search for market efficiency? Managers with no experience. Even if this doesn't become widespread, seems to be bad news for the Backmans, Sandbergs, and Teufels out there who have been biding their time in the bushes.
  15. Is Walt Weiss the local guy? Suffern, NY? Or is that BJ Surhoff? Edit: Weiss is from Suffern; Surhoff from Rye.
  16. The Carlos Sosa designs are pretty cool.
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: "They might have to include (Josh) Thole in a deal." I don't think that will be a major stumbling block. To the other team it might be.
  18. 21-11 combined vs. the Cubs and Astros.
  19. Giants in 6... - Teams that have won 7-game LCS's have beaten up on teams with long layoffs lately. - Still have my doubts about the Tiger pen, and I think we will see them a bunch, especially in the Sanchez and Scherzer starts. - Delmon Young...in the outfield. - Home teams are 22-4 in World Series games 6 and 7 since 1979, the last time a road team won a World Series game 7.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Detroit sure looked like an excellent team coming out of spring training. They were never the league's juggernaut this season, but they finished strong and sure seem like one of those teams that chose the right time to peak. Wow. Looking at them now, it's baffling that they only won 88 games in a crappy division.
  21. Yankee killer (TM Francesa) Delmon Young drives in the first run of the game. 1-0 Tiggers, bottom 2. Scherzer has 4 Ks through 2.
  22. Probably mindless speculation on my part, but we're overlooking the likelihood that first base might be ARod's destination if in fact he ends up in the NL. And if he were here, and so was Wright, that would be where I would expect him to play. What that means for Ike, I don't know?
  23. You know, as crushing as the bullpen meltdown is, if I were a Nat fan I'd be irked that Gio couldn't give me more after being staked to a 6-0 lead.
  24. Something I didn't know and learned from last week's SI: Melky Cabrera would have been eligible after SF played their fifth postseason game (game 1 LCS), but team management told him he wasn't welcome. I really wasn't aware how the postseason fit into the 50-game suspension, but I guess I know now.
