  1. I didn't know it either. I also have a vague recollection that Terry did the same thing last season (no idea who the pitchers or opponents were) but was allowed to bring in the guy he wanted.
  2. Poking around 1975 on BB Ref, I found it interesting that the SF Giants did not field a single player who was in his 30s. Oldest active player was 29.
  3. Mr Walkoff Jason Giambi
  4. Is Darvish wearing Mr. Red's mustache under his mouth?

  7. 1. David West? 2. Sid 3. Eric Davis 4. McReynolds 5. Strawberry 6. Seaver 7. Barry Larkin 8. Carter
  8. Good read. Never knew about that game. Coincidentally, both Pignatano and Cepeda (and Raffy Santana!!) are supposed to be at FanFest on Saturday when I will be there. Little Solo and I will try to grab autographs.

Last year's O's finished the season 11 games ahead; 93 wins for a team that out-scored its opponents by just 7 runs for the year. Without any proof, I would guess that their closers pitching out of their minds contributes a lot to both last year's Os and this year's Pirates out-playing pythagorean projections.
  12. Reminding me a bit of last year's Os. Veteran manager, strong division, average to young lineup with guys ready to put it all together, closer who comes out of nowhere and is virtually untouchable. Yeah, that's my story. They are this year's 2012 Orioles. Book those playoff play-in (or whatever that one game thing is called now) tickets, Bucco fans.
  13. Good news for the wall and the agent is that-typical Johnny-the throw landed low and outside.

  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I was thinking of taking Lunchpail there on Saturday too. It's gonna be expensive for what you get but unless you buy food I think that's all the extra cost there is. Five hours better be enough! I would think it would be enough, but Javits is huge and if you get on one long autograph line...
  16. I just learned that I have the opportunity to grab two tickets to Fan Fest for Saturday the 13th from a neighbor. I was going to bring my son, but I had some questions for veterans of this: - I probably can't get down there till about 3PM; it closes at 8. Is that enough time to experience a lot of it (I understand that Saturday is usually the most crowded)? - I'm getting them for $27/person. Taking that into account, plus parking or transportation, plus food, I'm looking at dropping a decent chunk of change. So my question is...once I'm in, are there other expenses I am going to run into? Do activities or autographs or photos cost additional? I gather it is a great event, I just worry that a) I'll be spending more than I really should on this, and that I won't really have enough time to enjoy it. Any suggestions/advice are greatly appreciated.

  18. Douchebag "Ted" has nothing on Maxwell the Pig.
  19. Mijon Cummings OF Steinbrenner HS, Tampa -- Father is former MLB outfielder Midre Cummings Somehow the biggest WTF of this entry is not the name "Mijon". Steinbrenner HS, are you kidding me?
  20. And Robin Ventura missed the last 4 innings. He left early to catch a flight for his daughter's HS graduation.

  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: They're the team that really proved that the 2012 Mets were a fraud, or you know, not as good as they looked. Two series at CitiField where they took us apart, and that was that for 2012. They do like playing in this Queens ballpark, don't they?
  23. Was that the guy you thought would come last? Funny. I had long known four 1962 Mets had become managers, but I couldn't for the life of me think of the last one. I thought the last manager standing would be between Marshall, Sherry and Pedrique. I was surprised to see Pedrique go so early. I woulda missed him, totally. Other Mets teams to spawn four managers: 1966 (McMillan, Harrelson, Green, Boyer) 1977 (Mazzilli, Torre, Valentine, Harrelson) 1981 (Gardenhire, Mazzilli, Jorgensen, Cubbage) I'd rephrase my response to note that the last manager standing isn't the best way to determine which answer was the toughest, given the format of this quiz. Because someone with a good working knowledge of Mets history might log on at the beginning of the quiz and decide to go with the toughest answers first. But if this were a written sit-down quiz, like in school, and each contestant or quiz-taker was asked to name these 27 ex-Mets/mlb managers, I'd say that Marshall, Pedrique, Sherry, Boyer and Bochy would be the most missed Mets. By the time I saw this, it was already on page 3, so I decided to just try and name as many as I could without looking at responses. Got to about 19 before giving up. I never would have gotten Pedrique or Marshall. This would have made a great Sporcle quiz, and yes, I think the least guessed there would have been the ones you listed, and I would throw Jorgensen in there as well.
