  2. Later in his career when Vida Blue pitched for the Giants, I was lucky enough to have seats at Shea in the Giants owners' box right next to their dugout (got a broken bat from Dave Bergman, but I digress). I just thought it was the coolest thing that he wore "Vida" on the back of his jersey instead of the traditional last name.
  3. '98 I don't think is right. Matt Franco had a hit in that game, but not John. Great work though.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Well, not 'Fox & Friends' (except maybe for a promotional appearance or two) but, to no one's surprise, Kevin will be leaving SNY when his contract is up at the end of this season -- see today's NY Post -- and has already signed a three-year deal with FOX TV starting in 2015, a deal which will include "various sports duties" including baseball, the NFL, and college basketball and will require him to relocate out to the west coast. The relocating to the west coast seems to imply this is a studio gig, no? A network NFL/MLB play by play guy wouldn't need to have a home base, I don't think.
  5. Sneaky-hot Becki Smith knows how to handle inquisitive cardboard cutouts and sell the bejesus out of a Honda. I think I'm in love.
  6. Arizona playing an awful lot like a team looking to get their manager fired.
  7. Oh, god how I wish Mr.-does-everything-the-right-way had gotten thrown out at second after jogging and admiring the ball he thought was going out today. They almost had him too.
  8. This team seems to routinely beat the hell out of the Mets at Citi Field (9-2 last three seasons). Let's hope that changes starting tonight.
  9. Totally annoying redhead eats nothing but Wendys.
  10. I don't mind watching Baseball Tonight when it is on, but I usually go with MLB Network. Not a big fan of a lot of the MLB Network ex-jocks (B Ripken, Plesac, and Reynolds in particular) but you get consistent scores, stats, highlights and discussion with MLBN.
  11. Metsblog sez Parnell with tear of MCL in right elbow. Two weeks rest, then begin a throwing program....maybe, hopefully. If that goes ok, he might avoid surgery. ugh. edit with link: http://metsblog.com/metsblog/bobby-parnell-has-tear-of-mcl-in-right-elbow/
  12. So you're the Houston Astros. You've been in the AL for about 15 minutes. You've got very little history with the Yankees except for maybe: a) a combined no-hitter at old YS; Wang breaking his foot running the bases and Hank Steinbrenner getting ornery about it, and c) hosting Rivera's final series last season. Now, knowing you have little history, but at the same time knowing this is the kickoff to Jeter's "farewell tour", do you have to do a ceremony/lame gift presentation? My guess is they'll be forced into doing something, they'll bring out Clemens/Pettitte, give Jeter some stupid Texas-themed present and be done with it.
  13. Off the 25-man, or out of the organization?
  14. Not clear enough on the rules I guess, I thought managers couldn't challenge from the 7th inning on?
  15. He got squeezed on a couple, but ball four wasn't close.
  16. I guess the Met blogosphere are big charter school advocates?
  17. And to think the Tigers were getting praise just a few months ago for unloading a big contract.
  18. Kong? Played for Mets and Yanks in 1977, although not eligible for postseason.
  19. 73-89 4th No.
  20. Listened to part of inning 1 in the car at lunch. Reception on OR is OK, but Howie and Josh sound like they're broadcasting from the bottom of a barrel.
  21. I'll go back to Bobby V's interchangeable outfields. 2001 - Agbayani, Timo, Payton
  22. Whoever guessed Lance Johnson in one of the other quizzes put the idea in my head. I figured Gilkey had to have played a lot of games to put up the numbers he did.
