  1. Nola has a 1.97 ERA against us this year. Let's push that little higher. I'd really like to see Matz go six or seven while keeping the ball in the yard.
  2. I think you wait and see with Thor. With the other two, I'd act now, but I have a clearer idea for DeGrom (the 6 and 150 is probably realistic) than Wheeler.
  3. Obviously we didn't give Reyes enough at-bats.
  4. Two guys with an OPS over 1.000. After the second week of April, no less. Eh, whatever. Maybe Minaya should have given Cora an extension with a vesting option to manage?
  5. At this point I'm all for extending Wheeler. I'm not sure how his camp will play it. His agent could be telling him to pitch a full season like this before signing anything, and you couldn't really blame him. But I'd be talking to them regularly.
  6. He's had issues with his shoulder holding up for nine innings, and he wasn't allowed to dive for anything in his rehab games. So he's still fairly limited. Having said that, my guess is that the organization would like to see him play a game, presumably with Reyes at short, at home before the season wraps up. And then we'll see where he is in February.

It might cost you meaningful games. I doubt that the difference between Peter Alonso and Wilmer Flores over a course of about 15 games is likely to make much of a difference. And those 15 games could net you 162 games in 2025. And I know that there's no way of knowing if we'll care about this at all in 2025, but I think the delay is a worthwhile gambit. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. But it's possible that we get to the end of next spring and it's really obvious that Alonso is your best option at first right now.
  8. Centerfield wrote: Bruce will never be able to rehabilitate his trade value enough that someone will take him off our hands. Bruce has a .277/.358/.532 line since his return. He was playing hurt in the first part of the season, and he's not playing hurt now. Somebody will find that desirable. Perhaps even the Mets. There's no reason to take pennies on the dollar for him. And we know that because he's been playing regularly. Smith's outfield defense is not reassuring yet, and he still hasn't hit consistently on this level, but the ability is there. You do want to play him enough to figure out where he stands going into the offseason as well. There's no reason to take pennies on the dollar for him, either. Jackson is only facing lefties at this point, which is fine.

    Ohtani

But if he stops playing, he will be available to inject valium into the Yankees water cooler before the wild card game. That's more important.
  13. The Fielding Bible has him at -1 runs saved, which is basically average and a significant upgrade at the position for us. Considering the power came at a hitter-friendly AA park and an extremely hitter-friendly AAA park, I'm not concerned by his power numbers here. I think those will improve some over time, but I'll take what I'm getting. I'd like see him walk more, but if his OBP continues to hang around .385 I will take what I'm getting with that too. I LOVE the way he hits left-handed pitching. Even if you don't factor in how far under the radar he was at the start of the season, there is a lot to like and almost nothing to dislike.
  14. Our biggest mistake last offseason was giving the biggest contract to a left-handed corner outfielder we didn't actually need. The biggest mistake we could make this offseason would be to give the biggest contract to a second baseman.

Edgy MD wrote: I know if Todd Frazier, 2017 Yankee thirdbaseman, pulled it off I'd be disapproving, so I wouldn't be particularly consistent if I didn't declare him forthwith to be a vile, reprobate cozener. And yeah, it can be argued that the Mets are playing out the string, but the Dodgers sure ain't. If the Dodgers had lost that game, they'd have grounds to file a protest to restart the game from that point. And how does the league not suspend him over this?
  16. So are we OK with this?
  17. So why is he batting eighth?
  18. bmfc1 wrote: Can we stop wasting time with Austin Jackson? We can see why SF and TEX released him and his good field, so-so bat. I don't need to see any more of him, or Meso, or Wilmer. Bruce is edging close to that list, too. Jackson hasn't been an elite defensive centerfielder for a while, and is not even good at this point (the Fielding Bible has him at -15 runs saved on the year). Nimmo remains our best defensive outfielder, in addition to being our best hitter (with all due respects to my new favorite player, Jeff McNeil).
  19. The last at bat at Cashman Field, and the last at-bat for the Las Vegas franchise as a Mets affiliate? A Peter Alonso walk-off two run shot. On to Syracuse (but hopefully not for Alonso)!
  20. No McNeil, but at least Reyes isn't playing again. Also not sure why our best hitter is batting seventh.
  21. The BABIP comes from the shift. Like Bruce and Conforto, he has to hit home runs in bunches to make his average look respectable, and if he's playing hurt, that becomes a lot harder. He has looked healthy lately, though.
  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: I've always had the feeling that the only reason they've kept Jose Reyes around this long is to reunite him with David Wright one last time. While I would counter-argue (to the front office, not you) that Reyes forfeited any claim to sentimental value with his off-field behavior, I can't think of any other reason to keep Reyes around that would plausibly make sense to anybody.
  23. bmfc1 wrote: Great job Seawald. DFA his ass. And perhaps Mickey should have had Blevins ready but he got outsmarted. If we were playing for this year, Blevins has to be in there. As it stands we're playing for next year, and giving Sewald the chance to pass a gut check was a reasonable test to me. OK, so he flunked. And Basholor didn't help himself either. That's two more data points going into the offseason.
  24. Rich Garces, whom I barely remember, and Mariano Rivera, whom I remember too well.
  25. Getting the start against the lefty -- Bumgarner, no less!
