  1. I noticed that as well, and it was talked about on one of the threads here. The complete disappearance of his power at age 26 makes zero sense at all to me.
  2. They paid for upside that never really materialized. Of course now they can sign him back, which would make the trade even more interesting.
  3. Having experience in AAA, especially at positions where we don't have any mostly-baked prospects, never hurts. Hopefully neither Blanco nor Davis will see too much time in Queens, but emergencies have happened often enough in the last couple of years to justify having a plan C, D, and E.
  4. And the prospect Josiah Gray gets traded on his 21st birthday. He'll drink to that.
  5. The Reds take on $18M in payroll, but get three viable players. The Dodgers get a contract they are likely to simply eat, plus the Reds' #7 and #20 prospects. They save $18M this year, but Bailey is under contract in 2020 and the three players the Reds got are not. At face value it looks like the Reds got away with highway robbery, but if this helps the Dodgers get one of the top two free agents they will take it.
  6. I agree. The health is a big if for Murphy, but he's hit fine when he's played and Coors Field is still Coors Field. He's a better bet for first base than second at this point, though.
  7. Andrew Miller officially signs with the Cardinals. The move guarantees 2 and 25, with an option for a third year that vests with 110 appearances over the first two seasons (easy to reach "if" he stays healthy). The A's, Rangers, and Rays completed a three-player swap, the primary consequence of which is that Jurickson Profar will have to get used to wearing yellow and green.
  8. Minor was one of the best lefty set-up guys in the league in 2017. He is also a better option as a starter than Jason Vargas is -- his 116 ERA+ as a starter last season beats Vargas' career high comfortably, even if the 164 IP is nothing to get excited about. I'd have to see the price, but he wouldn't be a bad get.
  9. The hard question is what to do with somebody like Russell. If you think that a lifetime ban is too harsh, then when do you let him back and under what terms? And how do you build a consistent policy? And that's before you even get to what to do when the law does nothing. When Kareem Hunt (a football running back if you don't know) was accused of abuse, the hotel had video. The police didn't think it was worth their trouble and the NFL (at least according to them) was told no when they asked to look at it, but TMZ paid off somebody and the video went public. That's really not the best way to find out anything. And then, how do employers in general handle situations like these? Is it it different when the accused has a high public profile and the allegations are public knowledge? And should it be different?
  10. The article jumps to conclusions. We'll see how things play out.
  11. Centerfield wrote: That seems crazy high for Harvey. About double what I think he's worth. But it's a lottery ticket, and if it doesn't work out, they spend the money elsewhere next year.
  12. He also said the Mets “still have some real money to spend.” We'll see, on both counts.
  13. I'd care more if people like him were only running a baseball team as opposed to, say, the country.
  14. Adams has a mutual option for 2020 that comes with a $1M buyout. The Rangers sign Lance Lynn for 3 and 30. Ironically, I would have been more willing to give him this kind of deal last year than I am now. We'll see if I'm wrong twice.
  15. I hope he delivers in a crucial pinch-running situation in September. I also hope he is not needed for more than that.
  16. Ramos filled in the void for the Nats left by Flores' injury-shortened career, which makes confusing the two that much easier. Flores had a pretty good year at St. Lucie in 2006, but the Minaya didn't think anybody would try to hide him on their major-league bench for a full season without him ever even seeing AA. The Nationals took the dare.
  17. We've kept Dr. Welby on speed dial for a while now. He's probably tired of us calling him. I'm leery of Pollock for that reason too, but like with Ramos, I'm willing to take a shot if the years and the price are right.
  18. Mex17 wrote: Wasn't Ramos once a Mets farmhand who they let get away to the Nats in the Rule V Draft? Or am I thinking of somebody else? I always thought that was Ramos myself.
  19. ="Frayed Knot”] A bigger and longer package than I expected he'd get and a BIG risk considering his age (32 next August), position, size (claims 6' 1" - 245), and injury history (avg of 92 Games/331 ABs played from 2011-18).
  20. Not a major concern, but he’s not as good with the glove as Realmuto or Grandal. Still, given the Marlins asking price for a Realmuto, this is a steal.
  21. Mex17 wrote: smg58 wrote: If 30 IP is the best he can do, then no. I'm not sure that is fair considering what his role is now. All we need is for him to be the loogy. I'm all for giving Zamora some competition for the one-out role, but if I'm going to spend on a lefty, I'd rather pay more and get somebody who can be more than that, and then still have Zamora or somebody similar for one or two outs at a time.
  22. The Nats return Matt Adams to the fold for a year and $3M, plus a team option. The Angels bring in Justin Bour for a year and $2.5M. It is not a good market for serviceable platoon first baseman.
  23. Very good hitter but a very bad fielder. He would have to come cheap compared to any centerfielders. I suppose that's possible, but I can't imagine there aren't any American League GMs with an opening at DH who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to get him.
  24. Since we're on the subject of lefties... https://www.mlb.com/player/chris-rusin-543734?stats=career-r-pitching-mlb&year=2018 Chris Rusin had as good a season in 2017 as a lefty out of the pen can possibly have -- 85 IP with a 2.65 ERA. In Colorado, that ERA translates to a 199 ERA+; by comparison, Edwin Diaz had a 208 ERA+ last season. Last year was an unmitigated disaster, however, as he tanked to the tune of a 6.09 ERA. The good news? He had a 2.08 ERA in September, and pitched four scoreless innings in the postseason for the Rockies. He was listed as a possible non-tender candidate by MLBTR, but the Rockies brought him back and will likely be on the tab for less than two million. The question is, what do the Rockies think of him at this point? What would they want in return, and will it be worth the gamble?
  25. Would he come for a year and 3 million? I don't think I could justify more than that.
