  1. According to the Fielding Bible our best defensive player was Thomas Nido, followed by Taijuan Walker. There are a few surprises on the list regarding how people rated.http://fieldingbible.com/TeamFieldershttp://fieldingbible.com/TeamFielders
  2. I don't see the point of starting to watch a game when I can't watch the ending. MLB continues to make it hard for anybody east of the Rockies to stay up for the ending of a playoff game. And they never learn. But LOOGYs have to pitch to three batters, so that makes it all better.
  3. Hefner was the guy who most needed to go.
  4. From this quote, I'm guessing that management told him to do something in the WC loss to the Dodgers and he didn't obey: https://twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1448726545749643276 If the front office tried to tell him how to manage and he told them where they could go and what they could do to themselves when they got there, then he's exactly the guy I want.
  5. I'm curious what the philosophical differences were. But I'd have already called Shildt and/or his agent.
  6. So arbitration starts tomorrow, meaning you will have about a month to boost the salaries of players on other teams.
  7. I don't see how Hefner stays. I'm fairly certain that, before the injury, he would have perfectly happy with being judged on his handling of DeGrom by the results.
  8. Curtis Granderson.
  9. Too many injuries. Only Alonso among the everyday players had a fully healthy season. And of the others, only Nimmo played to realistic expectations when he did suit up. A manager and a GM who consistently acted like deer in the headlights. The character issues. Baez and Lindor get a big thumbs down. Cohen kept saying he was going to emphasize character, but his top hire Alderson never got the memo. Conducting an experiment to see how hard DeGrom could throw before his arm gave out, and expecting a different result than DeGrom's arm giving out.
  10. Yeah, I saw his comment and I already regret taking on the job. I'd cut him one bit of slack in the hope that he's more immature than malicious, but that wasn't called for. And he complimented me in private, and now I feel bad about it. Sigh.
  11. So what do I need to do?
  12. I'm more embarrassed by picking the Padres to win it all. Their season went south more abruptly and less explicably.
  13. So congratulations to Arsenal BC for going absolutely nuts on the last day of the season and finding four points to gain. Now back to the drawing board...
  14. He never regained his best form during his second tenure here. But in a season where the absence of class grated on me even more than the absence of wins, this was very welcome. Good luck Jeurys, wherever you wind up.
  15. You don't win by trading guys with a 124 career OPS+ under control for three more seasons for a front-office guy. But you learn from what teams like the Brewers did right, to be sure.
  16. I remember Bross from his Red Storm days. He had the body for a college center, but he didn't really have a basketball skill set.
  17. Has a career 124 OPS+, including this awful season. Cano is 126. Baez is 105. Offensively he's the best bet of the three going forward, and it isn't close. He had a really good July and then hit a brick wall. I still think he's been dealing with nagging injuries (like Conforto, and possibly Smith as well). Since he seemed to regain his form earlier in the year when he wasn't playing every day, I don't know why he's in the lineup every day now. It's not like he's clearly outperforming what Smith could do.
  18. I'm not for justifying overpaying to get Baez by overpaying to extend him. He had his one genuinely good offensive year under the tutelage of the hitting coach we fired in May. We are not going to get that from him. And as others have pointed out, his defense value is likely to vanish by the end of his contract. And it would take another fifteen home runs before the end of the season before I forget the thumbs down. Pass.
  19. All it needed was Vida Blue to have been a Met for a while.
  20. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Pros: -fastball velo up 2 MPH from last year! Somebody had him fix what hadn't been broken.
  21. =seawolf17 post_id=75957 time=1630338967 user_id=91] =kcmets post_id=75955 time=1630338729 user_id=53] A: A 55-footer. Q: What's Javy's favorite pitch to flail at and miss?
  22. The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that Baez should not play another inning in a Mets uniform. Pillar as well. DFA them, but not for a couple of days so that they lose their playoff eligibility. Lindor, well, we've made too much of a commitment to him. He gets a couple of days off too, but after that give the fans every opportunity to let him have it.
  23. I'm not sure what Lindor's involvement was, but they gave up more than the Yankees did for Rizzo and the Giants did for Bryant for what they are now saying was a half-measure (and got somebody that people will now be happy to see go in two months). And they got no relievers, and Rich Hill was the best they could do for the rotation.
  24. A number of guys have been playing with nagging injuries. McNeil looked like himself in July, but that was after playing part-time for a couple of weeks when he came back from the IL. After a couple of weeks in the lineup every day, he hit a brick wall again. I think having everybody back will make it possible to rotate people, and you'll start to see guys like McNeil, Conforto, Smith, and Lindor show signs of life. But they dug far too big of a hole this month and they will come up short. I'm inclined to agree with CF's last comment as far as the front office and coaching staff are concerned. They've demonstrated quite emphatically that money isn't everything. Whoever convinced DeGrom that he needed to throw harder should be forbidden from ever entering another stadium, even if he purchases tickets. The only free agent I bring back is Stroman.
  25. I'm mystified by Conforto. His .412 BABIP last year was never going to be repeated, but it really looked like he had matured as a hitter. Maybe he is still hurt, I don't know. Alonso is doing as well as a one-dimensional power hitter in this park with this ball can do. And to be fair, he's been the team's most consistent hitter. The problem is that he and McNeil have not been as hot in August as they were in July, and nobody has picked up the slack. I mentioned in another thread that Smith hit breaking pitches well the past two seasons but has not this year. Is his approach different (and if yes why), has he been playing through a nagging injury too, or is he just off? Lindor was switching leagues and may have been playing hurt for longer than we knew, but he hasn't been the problem lately. It's worth pointing out that the Mets are 33-20 at home and 23-33 on the road. So Citi Field has been a bigger issue for our opponents than it has been for us (a reversal of what it had been in the last few years of Alderson's tenure as GM). What it may have done is make our pitching staff look better than it actually is (i.e., a 4.39 road ERA with a deadened ball does not cut it). That is something to consider when the Mets made no deadline deals to bolster the bullpen.
