  2. Hmmm I wonder if Beltran's mole speaks German? Later

  4. FK, Giving call-in fans the ability to talk to the guests is what IMO makes this show good. I don't know if your remember them, but early sportstalk hosts such as Art Rust Jr. and Bill Maser did that. Somehow, the newer sports shows haven't. How often have you listened to the hosts not ask a question you would have? How many fans never get the chance to speak to a sports celebrity, but would love to? Its a nice touch. Later

    Banner Day

Frayed Knot wrote: Why do I get the idea that Wilpon & co will be too deathly afraid that Banner Day 2006 wouldn't exactly re-create the wholesome family fun that it evoked back in the 1970s. It couldn't get any worse than a pre-banner day banner than hung from the upper deck of the Polo Grounds in 1962. It said: FUCK O'MALLEY. The camera was panning the banners, with one of the Met announcers commenting on how clever they were. When the camera got to that one, the director quickly cut to a commercial. Later
  6. Mike Vaccaro in Sunday's NY Post:] You take three parts Armando Benitez, two parts Braden Looper and two parts John Franco, you stir it in a bowl, you throw it in a mixer on high for 20 seconds, then you add just a pinch of Doug Sisk for old times's sake, and do you know what you get?You get Jorge Julio. This is the same Mike Vaccaro who's book is titled "Emperors and Idiots".Its about the Yankees and Red Sox, but from the title, I thought it was his autobiography.Later
  7. This sounds like a segment on an educational kiddie show. Welcome to Extrapolation Nation. Later

  11. I noticed that when looking in another thread. Congrats, Cooby. When I grow up I want to be Mrs. Payson, too. Later

  14. I have this feeling that if neither Franco nor LoDuca had pushed Beltran out of the dugout, Wright might have. And if not this year, maybe in a year or two when he is a "veteran". Later
  15. Welcome Ashtray Jim. It will only last for a while. Now, get those bats back into the rack. Later
  16. oops, never mind. It looks like this is not the same Enrique Cruz we lost in the draft. This is apparently the one we got -an ex-Yankee farmhand who isn't very good: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/enrique-cruz-1.shtml But I'll keep this thread here for a while. I would NOT adopt this other guy. LAter

One "62" responding to another "62". Isn't that bordering on incest? EDITS: ]Sorry. I'm going to have my brain removed and rewired Bret. And you just left that line out there for someone to pounce on? I think there are folks here who would not only be in favor of that, but would pay good money to watch it happen. Might even cover the cost of the operation. ]That's the second person to confuse MFS62 for me. We must look alike. Might be the CT thing. I dunno. Do you wear glasses? Later

  20. I'm happy to see that he is back with the Mets. He was lost on the Rule V draft after being one of the best amateur prospects ever signed out of the DR. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/enrique-cruz.shtml If you've never read about him, let me recount exactly why he was so highly regarded. In his last two seasons of amateur baseball (equivalent to a very good high school or AAU league in the US) he: Won the triple crown Hit 47 home runs in about 250 at bats (that is NOT a misprint). I notice that he is listed as a righthended hitter, but I remember that he was a switch hitter when they signed him. I wonder which organization changed that? I feel his skills deteriorated while spending a full year on the Milwaukee bench. I hope he gets a chance of putting his career back on track. Welcome to my family, Enrique. Later
  21. I awarded Franco .5 last night for his MVP (most valuable push). I think it will hopefully show Beltran thatthere really are fans out there who like him, and he will noe relax and just play his brand of ball. Later

  23. metirish wrote: WOW..I love Julio Franco.... So do I. This can be a defining moment for the season. Julio practically threw Carlos out there to face the "love" that was being shown him. I think it will do wonders for his psyche. (and hopefully his game) Julio said when he signed thathe would like to be a manager some day. This is an example of his leadership skills, trying to buoy the spirits of a slumping player. Good job. Later
  24. OK, I'll talk. I contacted Charter Communications as recently as this Tuesday. The customer service rep said their parent company is "still in negotiations" with SNY. I thought I saw light atthe end of the tunnel when I received a letter saying that the golf channle was being moved to the premium sports tier ( I hpoed to make room for SNY). But on Tuesday, the CS rep said it was staying where it was. But when I got home last night, I noticed that they had moved FX (Which had been on a station contiguous with the other sports stations, such as MSG and FoxSports) to a higher number, replacing the History Channel (I'm pissed about that, too) and the spot where FX had been is now dark. So, maybe that's where SNYwill be. In the meantime, I'm Metsless. Later
  25. The article appeared in yesterday's paper, but the writer didn't mention my name. Still no resolution, and the fans are pissed. Later
