The other Trojan who came to mind was Dave Kingman. But he was released in January 1984. And (I had to look it up) Nady went to Cal, not Southern Cal. Later

]using the advice of esteemed pitching coach Leo Mazzone to take his game to a higher level. Hmmm. Considering some of the "games" they've reportedly played, maybe she should have stuck with him. Later

And Rick Reed, too. I think Petit fell into that same category, despite all the minor league strikeouts. Later

I still feel bad for Roberto. The guy is a power hitter and gets a chance to stick with a major league team. Then he ends up playing half his games where the outfield fences are in a different area code. Later

Diaz should stay for at least one of three reasons: Floyd gets hurt, or needs an occasional rest. (Chavez doesn't have the bat for more than occasional duty for a corner outfielder) And Floyd will be a free agent at the end of this year. Nady can't cut it. Milledge may not be ready until mid next year. Later

OK, since you're looking for additional nominations, I'll add Glavine. Let's see how well his very good second half of last season, and his "I re-learned how to pitch" pronouncements carry over into this season. Later

He added (my paraphrasing) that while much of the negative reaction Aaron got when chasing Ruth, and Sosa got while contesting McGwire for the single season record, was racist, this is not. I agree. And Mr. Moore doesn't know either basebal history or Barroid if he says it is. Later

from prospectus: David Bell is opening the door for one of the best spring training stories around. My boss once asked me if I spoke any foreign languages. I told him that since I was raised in New York, I probably knew some words in over 20 different langiuages (OK, hyperbole). The bad news was, the words that I know would probably get me tossed out of those countries. Later
