  1. Never fear, JD.One-time Met soft tossing lefty prospect Blaine Beatty had the same general minor league success, and suffered arm trouble while at (IIRC) AA . He is now a Met minor league pitching coach. There's always a place in your organization for a lefty who knows how to pitch.Later
  2. Where did that expression come from? Did Jose use it himself? Did some famous sportswriter use it an a nationally published article? Was it coined by someone here in the CPF? And, why is it always capitalized? Later
  3. I had a Steve Dalkowski flashback. I saw him just walk off the mound after throwing a pitch in the ST game in which he blew out his arm. All that wasted talent.... sigh Later
  4. Yahoo sorts is reporting that Zambrano left the game because of a right elbow injury. This is one game where the bullpen is stretched so thin that the team was depending on him to gut it out and eat some innings. I could say something here about him leaving the game with a "tummy ache" not being possible because he has never shown any guts. But I won't. Oh, wait. I just did. Later
  5. Nice. I wonder if Suzyn Waldmann would have covered it that way on the Yankee out of town scoreboard. "dominating 3-2 win" LOL! Later
  6. Floyd 2.5 Wright 2.5 Reyes 2 Sanchez 1 Julio 2 Later
  7. See what I meant earlier in this thread about the Braves wanting Floyd up in such a situation? Later
  8. That's what I meant. Any Atlanta fan would love to have Floyd coming up for the Mets with runners on base, the way he's not been hitting. Later
  9. Let us guess - the guy he wants to see up with runners in scoring position is.. (the envelope, please) Cliff Floyd. Later

    Owned

The next order of business for the ownership will probably be getting the Nats more local TV time. This has been an issue since before the 2005 season. From what I've heard from friends down there, the bottom line is it relates to the MLB appeasement of Angelos in return for his not suing over alleged territorial rights when the Nationals came to town. There are two regional sports networks (Comcast and MASN) that carry the Os and Nats, respectively. MASN was created last year and is partially owned/controlled by Angelos. The upshot is only a portion of the Nats games are available on cable; some are viewable over the air and others can be picked up on other stations depending on opponent (ESPN, TBS, WGN). Comcast and MASN are currently suing each other. The Comcast contract to carry the Orioles expires after this season so the thinking is that everybody gets to the table this off season and works something out. Edgy, is what they've been telling me substantially correct? Is it that messed up? Later
  11. The problem wasn't so much with the rhyme, as with the syntax. It would have been (slightly) better if he had written:Tommy and Pedro and a two day tornado."defeatey"?LOL!Later
  12. Things you think about on a Friday afternoon. If Mike B had never been a member of the Mets, do you think we still would greet new CPF-ers with "Welcome Abordick"? Later

(or maybe it was only 23 times)But how many of the others contained this?]Tom and Pedro, and a two-day tornado. At least it brought something new to the table. Later
  14. Agee's awful first year with the Mets was because of a terrible Spring Training beaning by Bob Gibson. It was the first time I remember actually yelling at the TV set when I saw Agee go down. Later

  17. Today's Daily News reported that the Mets have released Todd Self. Considering the fact that he was batting .108 with no home runs, I guess you could say this was self-inflicted. This creates a spot on the 40 man roster. Since Jose Lima was pulled from his last start after pitching two scoreless innings, does this mean it might be Lima Time at Shea this Sunday? Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter. Edit: Edgy's list shows he wasn't on the Mets' 40 man roster. But it makes room on the Norfolk roster for recently signed Jose Offerman. (But I still like my "self-inflicted" line anyhow.) Later

  19. ]Barbados, the most easterly of the Caribbean islands, is popular for its natural and historic attractions, beaches, water sports, golf courses, fine dining and nightlife. Bullfeathers! The best thing about Barbados is that you can tour a rum factory (brewery?), taste samples and buy bottles, and then sit on the beach a few yards away and enjoy the sun, water and wonderful aroma. Nice place. Later
  20. Angles placed RHP Chris Bootcheck on the 15-day disabled lis, retroactive to May 3, with a strained left hamstring. He was hurt running in from the bullpen during Tuesday's fight between John Lackey and Jason Kendall. . Later
  21. Pelfry-4ip, 13h, 3so, 1bb, 5r--today. I think all but two of the hits (doubles) were singles. His AA ERA now stands at 4.66 in two starts. The game started in the morning. Maybe his internal clock wasn't working. Later
  22. When it comes to damage they do against the Mets, the Giles/ Utley debate is a matter of pick-your-poison. Later
  23. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Did you refer to Delgado as "Ralu"? I've never heard that one. What does it mean? I think I mentioned it when the Mets got him. I have a friend who lives in Toronto, is a big Jays fan, and is married to an Inuit woman. He always called Delgado "Ralu". It is Inuit for "Deity". The way he's been playing, the monicker fits him. 24. Last night's game was the toughest for me to score. (It was tough for the Official Scorer on a ball hit by Endy too, but that's a different issue). I wanted to award Endy 5 points(maybe 6). He contributed with the glove as well as the bat. But what do you do for the others who contributed so well? Pedro certainly deserved maybe 4 points for a stellar performance. But how much was Ralu's game winning homer worth? Three? And how about the relievers who kept them in / won the game? Don't they deserve some points, too? This was a game in which I felt constrained by the 10 point maximum. Later
