  1. The reports said he 23 years old. For some reason I thought he was much older than that. Later
  2. My kid Henry is currently on the DL with "a slight tear in a forearm tendon" - not considered serious. He was soft tossing yesterday. Later
  3. Who's the meanest, toughest baseball player you ever saw? You know, the player who you wanted on your side, whether it be a ballgame or a bar fight. A real "mother". AND, Happy Mothers' Day to all you real moms out there. Later
  4. Delgado 3 Chavez 2 Wagner 1 Feliciano 1 Later
  5. Yancy, it was mentioned in today's Daily News suburban edition. Don't know if it was speculation or fact. That's why I said "could". Later
  6. They could get some short term help from Mother Nature. They're predicting as much as 3 inches of rain in Philly tonight. If the game gets washed out, Traschell starts Friday, with Gonzales or Lima on Saturday and Pedro on Sunday. Then, by the next weekend, Bannister could be ready to pitch on Saturday. Later
  7. Edgy DC wrote: I worry that perhaps there's some Trojan Horse stealth going on here. By allowing promotion for an unimpeachable charity onto the field and equipment during game play --- ribons on the jersey last year, bats this year --- they're softening up fan resistance for Nextel logos on the field/uniforms/equipment in the near future. Remember the (thankfully) aborted attempt to put Spiderman on the bases as a promo for that movie? You may be right, Edgy. But right now I'd give them the benefit of the doubt - they're doing something for a worthy charity. Doing something similar is still over the horizon. But your comment is worthy of the prediction forum. And I wouldn't bet against it happening some time in the future. As for other stuff in this thread, I heard that only about 50 pink bats were made for this Sunday. So I wouldn't think anyone has a spare in case one gets shattered. And, as for the Piazza comment. When I wrote (and posted here) "Pardon Me Boy, Is That Piazza in a Tutu?" I was once again ahead of my time. But I don't think my song parody mentioned that it was pink. Later
  8. ="Edgy DC"]I think his English is fine. His accent is pretty think but the comprehension and construction is there. I remember reading that as soon as Jose signed his first pro contract, he began taking English classes so he would be ready to speak to fans and reporters "when he made the major leagues". From a teenager, that showed a lot of confidence. Later
  9. Glavine - 5.5 Lo Duca - 1.5 Reyes - 1 Beltran - 1 Delgado - .5 Nady - .5
  10. On Mothers' Day (this upcoming Sunday), major leaguers will be using specially made pink bats and will be wearing pink wrist bands to bring attention to charities that support research into Women's diseases. How do you feel about this (not the charities, the way MLB is supporting them)? Would you have shown support differently? Later
  11. Thanks for verifying my suspicions, Wolf. And, no, I wasn't around when that rule was in effect. Later
  12. From that picture, I'd have to say that Billy Joel was right. They do start much too late. Later
  13. ]4:06-4:58 Robin Ventura's Grand Slam Single (I STILL can't believe they stopped him from completing the run around the bases, I mean has that EVER happened before or since in the history of baseball) It may have happened many times in the early 20th century, before the scoring rule was changed. I read that Babe Ruth lost one home run because of a rule in effect then. Let's say the score was tied and the batter came up in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run on third. If the batter hit a home run, he only got credited for a single (the minimum hit necessary to score the winning baserunner(s). Even though home runs were hit with less frequency in those days, I'd have to guess it happened more than once. Later
  14. Delgado 4 Martinez 3.5 Nady 2.5
  15. Isn't that type-casting? Later
  16. Edgy, Bell came up just to be added to the 60 day DL? Methinks you missed something there. Later
  17. You know, the tv character who comes up with amazing diagnoses on very little information. Well, it seems that my adopted son, flamethrowing relief pitcher Henry Owens hasn't pitched since last wekend because of "tightness in his forearm". Dr. House has eliminated any shoulder or elbow problem (phew), so, I'm asking our esteemed CPF medical staff, "What does it sound like it could be"? Can it be a symptom of something serious? What is your preliminary diagnosis? Later
  18. Espn reporting that Heath Bell has been recalled. But now here's where it gets interesting. The first report had Feliciano being sent down, another has Fortunato being sent down. If its the first, it was dumb. If its the second, he earned the demotion on pure merit. Maybe some update guy in Bristol, CT really does think they all DO look alike. (SC= 8.4) Later
  19. duan wrote: because Angel Hernandez has messed up stuff with the Mets since I began following baseball (1998). Whenever I hear he's anywhere near home plate I cringe. I used to have the same reaction when Lee Weyer was umpiring a Mets game. He seemed to get his jollies tossing Mets managers (the list is long and distinguished) out of games after he had made some blatantly bad calls. He had a short fuse, and would seemingly give the thumb as the first words were leaving the manager's lips. Some officials seem to have it in for certain managers/ coaches. I remember NBA ref Mendy Rudolph had rabbit ears for anything Nets coach Kevin Loughery said (from the bench). Kevin got tossed more often by him than a salad at Steak House. Later
  20. Steve, Pedro and Glavine, then its tryouts we're havin'. Nice job, Cooby. Now you know what its like to do a Phillies KTE. Later
  21. Wow! I had totally forgotten that I had adopted him. Please, Family Services person, don't take him away from me. I promise I'll treat him better. At least, I'll treat him better than the batters who toasted him for 10 hits in four+ innings in his last AA start. At least only two of the were doubles - the rest singles. Later
  22. Beltran 1 Feliciano 1 Wright .5 Bradford .5 Later
  23. If Rome used it, it has been tainted. I'll have to think about it. Later
  24. Thanks, JD. How good a name is Elvis Cruz? Later
  25. Me, too. Now I won't be using it. But thanks all for your feedback. Later
