  3. I never noticed before (because I've been thankfully successful in avoiding looking at her), but Suzyn seems to have learned her makeup technique from Vampira. Later

    Angel

Derby weekend reminds me that the names of jockeys named Angel are generally pronounced the proper way. The only exception that comes to mind is Angel Cordero. Later
  5. 49? He was my boyhood idol. Baseball will miss him. So will I. Later
  6. And Mets catcher Gustavo Molina is NOT related to the three Molina brothers who are Major League catchers - Yadier, Benji and Jose. Later

    August 8

Good for him. Just his luck. Every TV camera in the world will be covering the opening of the Olympics that day. That's like the White Sox pitcher Jean Shepard wrote about in one of his books. He said the guy pitched a no-hitter on the day Germany invaded Poland. Later
  11. I voted for July. But the option I would have voted for is "not soon enough". Later
  12. AG/DC wrote: I'm hoping that missed extra point comes back to haunt the Steelers. When the score was 7-0, it was time for the brief news roundup on WCBS (the Yankees' station). Of course, the sportscaster said "The Mets are down by a touchdown". And he sounded like he thought he was so clever for coming up with that. And, a shout out to the folks who have posted in the "I don't like booing" thread. If you want to boo after watching this game so far, we won't tell. Later
  13. I don't care what the box score shows, Perez deserved to earn every one of those runs. Later
  14. I think Kukla could pitch as well as Ollie is pitching today. Maybe even Fran. They used six pitchers yesterday and now this. On the pregame radio show, Willie said Figueroa is able to pitch in either short or long relief today. But, eight innings? (EDIT: JCL postedabout the pitching change while I was typing that) Later
  15. Don't recall where I heard this, but someone asked him after the game why he didn't come out for the curtain call. Carlos said he had only come out twice in his career; when he hit four home runs in a game and when he hit his 400th homer. He apparently saves it for significant times. I respect him for that. Its over used anyhow. Later
  16. Wallace Matthews DEFENDS Clemans. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ny-spwally295667295apr29,0,6830805.column 15 is the new 30??? He was uncomfortable doing it? Then why defend him at all? Later
  17. Have to confess. Since he has been on that team I have disliked Posada more than any other Yank, and that includes Captain Clutch. Why? Because he looks like my cousin. And I can't stand my cousin. Later
  18. Maybe one of the Yankees is a Type II Diabetic who is too stupid to limit his own Carb intake without this help. Later
  19. Roger was making up for his teen years. When he was 15, he was into sheep - literally. Later
  20. Good Job. And about that title - in all the discussion of what should have been done to the team during last season's collapse, keelhauling never came up. Not once. Thanks for reminding us of that option. Later
  21. Nice KTE. Speaking of concessions, Bal'mer has some signature food - crabs in Old Bay and Boog's B-B-Q. Anything special or unique served in DC? (The last baseball game I saw in DC was the expansion Senators playing in RFK Stadium in the 60's) Later
  22. I didn't know whether to sigh or chuckle. Good luck to your kid. Check the scouting report I posted to the thread about his signing. You may want to link or copy it here. Later
  23. Willets Point wrote: Ditto. He's a Brave I can like and respect. I can respect him (more precisely his accomplishment). But I don't like him. He's a Brave. Later
  24. metsmarathon wrote: or a total repeal of the dh rule, no matter what they do with the schedule. Where do I sign up for that? Later
  25. How'd that happen? Rick Ankiel was so strong he kept breaking the pens so he couldn't sign his card. And they needed someone to fill out the Cardinal set? Later
