    Missed it. Thanks Later
  2. We've talked about the guy numerous times, mostly negatively. But I heard on the radio yesterday (forget whether ESPN or WFAN) that Bob was hit in the eye with a batted ball while playing in a baseball game. The reporter said the injury was serious. Let's put our opinions of his writing aside for a while and wish him a speedy and full recovery. Later
  3. memories of Bobby: He was one of a line of shortstops the Yanks converted into centerfielders. The list included Mantle, Kubek, Tresh and Murcer. The year the Yanks played at Shea, Murcer had a lousy year - only two home runs at home, and both of those came in September. Seemed to be a nice guy. Like many ballplayers who follow a great one, some Yankee fans didn't like him just because he was "replacing Mantle" (even though he didn't do it directly). But I also remember Yank fans initially not liking Mantle because he "replaced DiMaggio". He suffered a lot. RIP Later
  4. More on Murphy. He's a third baseman who has been getting starts at second base lately. Later

    Ibanez: FOB

Strap him to a skid and paste a shipping label on his forehead. I'll gladly pay the postage. LAter
  6. Bless you, Fred. And, thanks from all of us. Later
  7. He has been named to the Futures Game, and will be the only International player to be mic-ed up . My boy has a future in broadcasting? Later
  8. Looking at that list makes me wonder what it would take to get Melvin Mora from the O's. Later
  9. Tatis is hitting like its 1999.* Later *= Yes, that was a Prince reference. (Sorry if someone has used it before)
  10. I was present at another memorable (or, forgetable) Shea moment. A day game, probably Sunday. I believe Gooden started, rains came, and they set the record for the lomgest rain delay in history before resuming. (IIRC the record still stands and the Mets eventually lost). Is there a way to find the date? Are rain delays counted in the official "Time of Game" in the box scores? Later
  11. I'm not sure if this is what the Yankees mean by a "double dip". http://www.nypost.com/seven/07092008/gossip/pagesix/finger_dipping_play_by_play_119038.htm Later
  12. On the radio, the three Mets announcers paid homage to a famous Bob Murphy quote after a similar Met win over the phillies. ("They won the damn game") My sentiments were reflected by a quote from the late great Pirate announcer Bob Prince, who said in similar circumstances, "We had 'em all the way". (Except I never refer to teams I root for as "we") Later

    Rick Ankiel

Well, when Taylor was written about, his strengths pointed to included "Plays through pain" and "highly agressive". And, aren't those known effects from smoking crack? Or are they not? That was the part of his "performance" I felt was enhanced. (as in PED) Just my opinion. Later

Vince Coleman Firecracker wrote: Fuck Josh Hamilton. Crack is a PED. Especially for a defensive football player. Yet I'd imagine many NY Giant fans were happy when Lawrence Taylor made the football HOF, but would be against Bonds making the baseball HOF. Just my guess. Later
  16. I comiserate with him. But then again, after 40 years of marriage, they're strictly decorative. Later
  17. I hear of Pasucci and think of Shelly Duncan. Why not see if he can provide a similar temporary lift, if not a permanent one? And, while I'm stretching, why not a Schoeneweis for Shelly Duncan deal? Later
  18. I'm giddy about the fact that Wilmer collected his first pro base on balls in the second game of tonight's double header. Learn that plate discipline, kid. His OPS is now over 1.000 I'm kvelling. Later
  19. Its tough to throw a runner out at first when the ball has gone through the second baseman's legs. Later
  20. (Chanelling Yogi Berra) "I'd like to thank everyone who made this award necessary". Thanks, FK Later

  22. Took the grandkids to see it. They enjoyed it. I just kept fantacizing about Anjolina Jolie and Lucy Liu in the same movie. How did you like it? Later
  23. Could he be any worse that some of the others who have inhabited the pen this year? But who replaces him as a starter? Later
  24. OK, fair enough explanation. I can accept that. Later
