  1. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think I read in the News this morning that Ben Johnson is projected to start the season on the minor-league DL. Which leads to a question. We've got several memorial roster spots named after their protypical players. Who should the team's Disabled List be named in memory of? Any nominations? Later
  2. Tejada looks like a 10 year old wearing daddy's cap. Nice update job. Later

3 sting is perfectly happy to harmonize as a member of a team (band/ trio) and wouldn't fight to be a #1. Abe Lincoln Later
  4. Calling Mr. Abreau to the lobby phone. This is your chance to show what a great hitter you were while playing first base for the Cuban National Team. PS- Wolf, I read a few years ago that while Florida had many retirees and therefore the need for Doctors, many of the ones who practice in that State aren't highly regarded. Later
  5. Wishing him all the best in whatever he chooses to do. Shawn, t'salanga yoren, t'savaksen and tse'kvellen.* Later *= Long years (life), with laughing and smiling.
  6. Birds of a Feather: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/02/26/2008-02-26_bruce_hurst_still_a_rocket_booster.html That guy, like Clemens, were drafted by the Mets, but chose not to sign and return to school. Supply your own punchlines . Later
  7. Can't provide any stats, since he was a late season International signee. IIRC, when they signed the 6'2" lefty-hitting shortstop it was said that his body type projects him to weigh as much as 24 0 pounds. It's real early. He has a big frame for someone 6'2" and 180 lbs. He can add 30-40 lbs to that frame. The other issue is that he turned 16 on or about August 8th, so he's very young. He could grow 2-4 inches. Part of the reason for the high ranking is that he plays SS. There is no more than a 50-50 chance that he'll remain at SS and not because Reyes is ahead of him. There haven't been many 6'4" +, 240 lbs. + shortstops. And the prospect of possibly seeing a 240 lb shortstop is interesting enough for me to want to adopt him. B'sides, this is a virtual adoption. I won't have to feed him. Later
  8. Thanks. I read the Daily News in the paper version, and am not a blog reader, so I missed that. Later
  9. Have Micheal Abreau's visa problems been resolved, or is he still not allowed to play before paying customers? Later

Welcome, Triple Dee. Now, as all rookies must, get yourself up on that virtual table in the middle of the room and sing your school's fight song. Later
  11. I'm still amazed that not one member of the committee has tried to associate the (shard of) bat throwing incident with "'roid rage". Later
  12. Sportscaster Walter "Red" Barber was born. He was the radio voice of both the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Yankees. Anyone care to share their thoughts of him? I remember he had an egg timer in the radio booth, to remind him to give the score at least every three minutes. Later
  13. Beltran normally wouldn't say "shit" if he had a mouthfull. So the fact that he's so vocal makes me think that the Mets will be playing with extreme motivation this year, to erase the memory of last year's debacle. This is a good sign. Later
  14. Happened to see the promo for the tv show "Joes VS Pros". The "pro" baseball player who will be competing looked like John Franco. Anyone know if that is really him? Later
  15. They just announced on the SNY hot stove program that they are going to do a tribute to the sign man at the end of the show. Later
  16. I have a feeling that Clemens may get a lot of press coverage in China because this is the Year of the Rat. Or maybe not. Later

  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Ehrhardt had a falling out with the club at some point over some matter or another. They later made up at least to some extent (or the offending persons in his mind left) but I'm not sure where the 'relationship' was in recent years. At minimum some photos in the new place acknowledging him in whatever area they set aside for NYM history/HoF (assuming they still have room after building their Jackie R shrines). IIRC, one year the Mets had a ceremony to honor their "best 25 fans". Ehrhardt was amazingly left off the list. I can't say I blame him for being angry. I was outraged when I found out he wasn't on that list, as were many Mets fans when the list was announced. Later

  21. ]But weve never had a Yorvit before. Heck, weve only had one other player whose first name began with a Y, and that would be Yorkis Perez. But if only Yosmerio Petit ........ Mole, I hope you meant you liked the names, and not their performances on the field. Great list, Vic. I'm sure you might have squeezed Richie Hebner, a grave digger in real life, onto the "deadly" list and nobody would have complained. Later
  22. Cookie Rojas is in the booth. He isn't too bad. The games are being played in the Dominican Republic, and the host nation has two teams in the tourney. And for the first time in many years, Puerto Rico doesn't have an entry. Later
