  1. How do you feel about them? Are they necessary? If so, when? Later
  2. Trot Nixon has started playing rehab games, as has reliever A. Burgos. Later
  3. Of the two, I always liked Russo better than Francessa. You may think he is an asshole, but at least he isn't a pompous asshole. When flying solo, Russo was not too bad as a host - none of the foolishness he maybe felt he had to provide as a counterpoint. Later

  5. Rats! One of my all-time fave Mets, and today is wifey's birthday. We'll be out to dinner during the broadcast. (reservations have already been made) Will I be able to listen to it later? Later
  6. Happy Birthday, kid! Keep up the good work. Poppa's proud of you. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Flores%20%20SS&pos=&sid=t506&t=p_pbp&pid=527038 Later
  7. The guy who pitches for the Padres. I looked him up and saw that he is from Tomball, Texas. About 10 or so years ago, I used to read an Internet site called The Tomball Chronicles ,which contained the weekly observations of a small town Texas baseball fan(don't recall his name). It contained some of the best writing about baseball, and life, that I have ever read. I just did a search for it and found nothing. Looking back, it may have been one of the first blogs, although it didn't allow reader posts. Anyone else remember reading it? Later
  8. Now you've got me wondering if the water drinker is related to ex-Met Buzz Capra. Later
  9. He was the voice of the enemy. I'll guess many Mets fans will miss him about as much as G.I.s during World War II would have missed Tokyo Rose when she went off the air. I was brought up to never say anything ill of the deceased. So, on a positive note, I don't remember him being as blatant a homer as his dad and his son. RIP Later
  10. According to Adam Rubin on Metsblog, Kunz has been called up. I'm not sure if a link to a blog is legitimate verification. Later

    The Big 5

Maybe its just that the Mets feel Murphy won't have a chance to face as many lefty starters at Binghamton as he will at N'Yawlins. Later
  12. A friend told me Murph just got called up to AAA. Any link to verify this? Later
  13. ="soupcan"]Reported on FAN this morning - Dan Karstens and Jeff McCutchens replace the other two no-name minor leaguers and join Tabata in Pittsburgh. Don't know how highly regarded those guys are but hopefully that hurts the Yankees more. Is that the same player as Jeff Karstens, who has pitched in several games for the Yanks over the past few years? EDIT: additional thought. The original trade looked so imbalanced that the Yanks felt the Pirate GM already had enough coke. Later
  14. To carry over an Edgy thought from another thread: If Omar could get anyone to take Anderson Hernandez, for anything, he will have fully demonstrated the power to cloud men's minds. Hernandez is currently hitting so far below the Mendoza line in AAA, he is in danger of having the new, lower, line named in his honor. Last time I dared to look, he was hovering around .180. Later
  15. I don't know whether those ads are dangerous to the economy, but they're dangerous to my health. Watching them makes me want to throw up. Later
  16. I thought it was the wrong type of moustache for Schmitt and I don't remember Bowa wearing a moustache. Later
  17. [quote="themetfairy"]Joe's pitching stats don't provide much hope that he'll be back with the big league team in his new role. In 32 innings so far this year he's given up 36 earned runs, 9 home runs, 23 walks and has an ERA of 6.99.
  18. I remember reading his stuff in The Sporting News. RIP Later
  19. ="AG/DC"]Flores wasn't drafted. As a Venezuelan, he's a free agent. You have to be 17 to be drafted. Foreign players are signed at 16, but teams can stash them at academies when they are younger than that. Agree about Flores being signed rather than drafted. But I was responding to the comment about him playing a year before American High Schoolers. In the link I posted, it talks about draft eligibility after graduating from high school and never attending college. There is no mention of a specific minimum age. If that is correct, what would stop a 16 year old high school graduate from being drafted? I'm sure a smart agent could fight that on the grounds of age discrimination. Can you provide a link that says there is a minimum age? to be drafted? Later
  20. I was 16 years old when I graduated high school, and for a brief part of my freshman year in college. I believe you can be drafted upon graduation from high school, no matter what your age. Is that correct? Or is there a minumum age? EDIT: Looks like I'm right. Check "eligibility" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_Draft#Eligibility Later
  21. ="seawolf17"]So that's the jerk she dumped me for. Ding! Ding! Ding! Later
  22. For years AL teams juggled their rotations to have their lefty starters avoid pitching in Fenway ,but start in the prior/ next series against the Yankees. But I don't remember anything this dramatic. Later
  23. A pre-game thought: At $2 billion per plane to make it invisible, how come we could see the Stealth? Later
  24. What position has he been playing? Later
