  1. Great job! And what a game to give us as out first example! Is there going to be a direct link at the top of the main page to these? If not a main link, what will be the path? Later

How to remember which was which? Leave it to the Mets to have one of them have "L" as his middle initial - and he was the righty. Nothing was easy with that 1962 team. Later
  3. Chris Cannizaro. Later
  4. Its funny that nobody was writing about the steroids/ acne connection when it was tough NOT to notice that Paul O'Neill's entire body looked like a topographical map of a lunar landing site. Later
  5. When Jeter is moved (to the outfield), there will be stories waxing poetic about how the Yankees have been successful with shortstops moving to center. They will mention past Mantle, Tresh, Murcer and Kubek. Funny though. They will fail to mention that those players were in their 20s when they made the move. (Maybe not Kubek). Later

He looks more like a strong safety than a second baseman. My 2011 expectations for him - pounding the shit out of the ball in Buffalo. Long term, power hitter in the majors for a long time. I'm not sure for which club. The only thing that makes him stand out among almost all of the hitting prospects in the organization is that he is a right handed hitter. As for nickname, I thought of adopting him when watching the ice skating during the Winter Olympics. So, to me, he will be Triple Lutz. Later

  8. Edgy DC wrote: I'd say that Emaus and Hu are ahead of him among righthanded platoon possiblitiies. Turner might be also (he hits righty), except he has options. Yes, they may have the edge, but I'm still rootin' for little looie. Any player who breaks his foot, stays in the game, and hits a dinger makes my squad any time. Later
  9. Luis is one of those longtime minor leaguers I like to root for to finally get a chance to play in the majors for a while. (More than a cuppa' joe) At the end of last season, I expected him to be the right handed platoon second baseman this year, sharing time with whichever lefty hitting second basemen were on the roster at the time. (Preferrably Murphy or Turner). Nobody they acquired since seems to be a strong enough candidate to become an every day second baseman, so my expectations remain the same. Later

  11. According to AdamRubin ESPN January 19, 2011 Mets players out of options include Nick Evans, Chin-lung Hu, Jason Pridie, Manny Acosta, Luis Hernandez and Pat Misch. Don't know about the signings from the past few days. Later

    2011 Roster

Edgy DC wrote: He wasn't released, but rather designated for assignment. Yes, they have to decide what to do with him (release being one of the possibilities). But the move took him off the 40 man roster. I tend to use release and DFA interchangeably, but they really aren't. Later

    2011 Roster

According to the report I heard, Jason Pirdie was also released to make room for today's signees. EDIT: Yup. Last paragraph. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AoMg8.vulGboGkMzjBgifb8RvLYF?slug=ap-mets-young Later
  14. When I was in high school, I was a counsellor at a day camp. One of the 8 year old kids asked me (after the player had completed a rookie year where, IIRC, he hit under .250) "Do you think Joe Pepitone will make the Hall of Fame?" I forget his name, but that kid might have been named Heyman. Later

  17. According to a tweet from Beningo and Evans, off air Ike was asked about switching positions if Pujols was available. To which Ike reportedly replied, I would be come a **bleeping** middle reliever to get Albert. Later
  18. Pictures of two ex-Mets in this article. Another one mentioned, for whom one of the pictured was traded. http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/good-sports/201101/mlb-scouts-commiserate-about-loneliness-road-help-brethren-need There may be others, but its late and I'm tired. Later
  19. According to the ESPN radio 10 PM update, John Heyman has reported the (conditional) signing. Fill in your John Heyman credibility comments here. Later
  20. I don't read where he says he is "very hopeful" on Bonser. He's just in there with the rest of the names. Later
  21. Thanks, folks. 'Thon gave me an idea. Why not, after calculating the "replacement player" numbers, (I'm supposing they change every year) you give him a name? Or, if they calculate WAR by position, names. It would be the current player whose numbers came closest to the WAR baseline calculation. It would make it a lot easier to picture if I knew this guy is 1.7 wins better than Elio Chacon. Or 2.9 wins above Dave Schneck. Well, you know. Later
  22. I look at WAR like I look at a Calculus equation. It holds up in theory. But in Calculus, you can't get an answer until you replace the symbols with real numbers. In the case of WAR, it isn't always a good way to calculate how much losing a player will mean to your team. Or how valuable the player who you lost was, compared to the real player who replaced him. For example, Wally Pipp got hurt. And the guy who replaced him was Lou Gehrig. I'm all for new baseball measures. But I just can't get my head around this one. Later
  23. Duda will become the refill for the half empty glass. I still think either Pagan or Beltran will get injured again this year. And Duda will come up and be the almost every day (platooning with Evans) left fielder, with Bay moving to right (something I've mentioned before). His counting stats will depend on his plate appearances. But I believe his other numbers can be .275/.330/.525. After that, the crystal ball gets cloudy. Later

Really, he was part of that snotty group of Marlins with the stupid boy-band names that irritated me: Cody, Jeremy, Taylor, Logan etc etc (no offense to actual readers with those names, just a personal thing). F Taylor. Go Michael. Chanelling George Carlin: "My pals Mikey and Billy and Johnny can kick the shit out of Taylor and Cody and Jeremy." Later
