  1. The Wilpons are picking? Roy Campanella. Later
  2. The Houston Restaurants. They have more places to eat out per capita than any major city in the US. (At least that was in the Chamber of Commerce stuff the last time I was there.) Later
  3. Actually, while the body of work is small, Mike Nickeas (OPS+ 37) doesn't exactly remind me of Johnny Bench. Later

  5. The nomination of "Extremely Loud ,,, " for best picture is unexpected. But the nomination of Max Von Sydow for Best Supporting Actor is not. (See the thread in this forum.) Wish I could predict the outcome of sporting events or Lottery drawings like that. Later
  6. MFS62 wrote: . The other performances are fair to middling (except Von Sydow, who should expect some award nominations) . This morning it was announced that he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. So was the picture. That one's a head-scratcher. Later

John's vision is obscured because his head is so far up his ass that his eyes are blocked. Later

  10. A: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Q: How did American League umpires describe their encounters with Earl Weaver? May an enraged wombat invade your pup tent. Later

  12. Yeah, newperson from O-Hi-Yuh. (You're far enough South in the state to pronounce it that way) Stand up on that virtual table in the middle of the room and sing your school fight song. Later
  13. I thought I saw a point-by-point response to a Rubin rant a few days ago in a CPF thread. Can't find it. Thought it might be in this thread. Can someone please post a link to that thread? Thanks. Later
  14. Went to the cocktail party and benefit (for Tuesday's Children) performance tonight. The top three stars did not attend, and the director sent his wife (he's in London). But some of the co-stars did attend, including Max Von Sydow. He and his wife were late for the party, but he did make some introductory remarks before the showing. I had a chance to speak to him briefly after the movie. After brief small talk about some of his many movies, I mentioned his role as Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon. He smiled. I then asked him which he preferred, comedy or drama. He replied "They are both a delight". As for the movie iteself, I tend to not like kid actors. So I tried to have an open mind about the movie and its young star. I was pleasantly surprised at his performance. I'm not sure why someone would want to see the movie. Maybe to deal with their own feelings about the day and the aftermath. Maybe they like tear-jerkers. Whatever. But I can't see anyone wanting to see it to be entertained. The pace is slow. As hard as everyone tries, you never really get grabbed in to the young hero's quest. The other performances are fair to middling (except Von Sydow, who should expect some award nominations) . And, I predicted the closing scene, almost down to the camera angle. I'm not going to post a poll, because if you want to see it, you will have your own reasons, and like it. And if this isn't your cup of tea, you won't. Later
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Wally Matthews, you are our Crackpot Columnist of the Week. By saying "the Week", I'm pretty sure you're either leaving the door open for others for the rest of the year, or you're expecting him to out-crackpot himself in the very near future. Either way, you'll probably be correct. Later

  17. Other Football HOF members listed as "kickers" are George Blanda, with a parenthetical "QB" after his name, and Lou Groza, with a "T". I think Ray Guy has been on the ballot recently, so he may still get in. Later

Every year, dozens of baseball fans flock to this hamlet to pay tribute to the their favorite players, enshrined forever by fuckedness. Hodges, Minoso, Herman, Cardenal, Tiant, O'Neil, Munson. July when the ranks of the buggered grow in the annual Fucking Ceremony. Don't miss it! Oh, I assumed those guys just went down the road to Ommegang and were drinking heavily. Well, the bus from the inns sets out for Ommegang, but ends up a half-mile away from Cooperstown Brewery and a stale-cider-donut stand. Hall of the Fucked and all. Those guys (except O'Neil) are all welcome to join us in the loser's lounge. We don't have enough of a light bulb and water cooler budget to let him in. Later
