Carpenter is a bit of a wanker I think, lots of gesticulating on the mound after an out. Dude's three innings from a WS ring. He can gesticulate all the hell he wants. And he's not going those three innings himself. Carpenter is a pussy. You would have had to pull the ball out of Bob Gibson's cold dead fingers. I think "the genius" is overmanaging again, just to show us how smart he is. Later
  2. Not one of the ESPN "baseball experts" has compared this game to game 7 of the 1960 World Series. One of the most famous games in World Series history. The scores were similar, games were full of twists and turns, and were ended by a late inning homer by an "unlikely" hitter. Later
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That Endy Chavez post was way too early. I'm getting flashbacks of the Shea scoreboard in 1986 that was congratulating the Red Sox on their WS win before Mookie hit the ball to Buckner. Are you sure you weren't the scoreboard operator? Later

Edgy DC wrote: Interestingly, the Fake Yankees have the lights blazing in broad daylight, while the Fake Mets keep them off at dusk, all the better to see Northern Queens' famous Aurorora Borealis. We don't need no steenking Aurora Borealis to light up OUR sky. There are enough bright young stars in Northern Queens. Later

  6. Do the sources seem credible? Also, Eiland sounds like the Anti-Duncan. Later
  7. And he has carried his hitting over to the Arizona Fall League: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=l119&t=p_pbp&pid=501571 Later
  8. Edgy DC wrote: I figure that was all required. The list of guys they need to add to the 40-man has to begin with Lagares, right? He may be a fringey prospect merely faking it in centerfield, but he's destroying AFL pitching right now --- and this would be the third straight league that has become his plaything. I agree, but he might have to learn to take a walk occasionally. Here are my kid's current stats: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=l119&t=p_pbp&pid=501571 Later
  9. Edgy DC wrote: I'm sure they'd love a minority candidate --- and will interview more than a few --- but I doubt they'll find one that's willing to operate in the best interests of the owners as the first, second, and sometimes third priority. If they are going to interview minority candidates, an interview should be offered to Frank Robinson. He has held just about every job in baseball (I don't consider ownership a job), including working for MLB. He might turn it down because of his age, but if he isn't on the short list, it would be a shame. Later
  10. Edgy DC wrote: I would discourage any Canadian in Cuba from making inquiries about their ballplayers. LOL! Maybe you're right. Discreet isn't in his Canadian dictionary. Later
  11. Edgy, my baseball fan Canadian friend will be vacationing in Cuba in a few weeks. Are there any baseball things you'd like him to inquire about while he's there? He usually posts pictures on the private portion of their website. I'll ask him to post them on the public forum as well. Later
  12. We could start a thread on "Words you see anymore". Toothsome would certainly be on that list. Then again, if they're on that list, we would have seen them recently. Oh well, back to MLBS. Later
  13. I had to look up Kelli Garner. I don't think I've ever seen one minute of anything in which she has appeared. But she's a Mets fan, so I don't care. I love her. Later
  14. Edgy DC wrote: I totally agree that he looks really weak here throwing his bullpen coach under the bus. If Dave Duncan had gone out to the mound, told the pitcher what to throw, and the batter had hit that pitch for a game winning homer, would Tony have thrown him under the bus? I seriously doubt it. But then again, its Tony. Later

  16. Edgy DC wrote: If proper nouns were OK, every name of every Met player ever would be allowed. Just remembered that. Later
  17. Dick Selma (are proper nouns allowed in this game?) Later
  18. Gwreck wrote: I think that seals MVP if the Rangers win. After a pretty pedestrian career except for his power, he's had a year that kinda' snuck up on everybody who isn't a roto player. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/napolmi01.shtml Later
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I didn't even find out until Sunday night that the Cards had won Game Three! That's what you get for watching ESPN. That wasn't a football game and they didn't broadcast it. So, what did you expect? Later
  20. Edgy DC wrote: And, oh shit, Mazzilli's too big a big shot to come out to Douglaston? I guess no umpire called it to his attention. Later
  21. The NFL game is a quick rout (21-0). The WS game might get some decent ratings. Later
  22. http://www.nypost.com/rw/nypost/2011/10/21/covers/front102111.jpg I'm surprised the Post didn't tell us that Derek Jeter killed him. This kid must have learned his marksmanship in Bronx drive-bys. Later
  23. Speaking of rookies, Duda gets recognition from BA: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/majors/awards/rookie-of-the-year/2011/2612464.html Later
  24. Edgy DC wrote: He's already not on the projected roster. With the formal announcement, don't you remove the picture? Later
  25. Listening to a late night game from Buffalo, and hearing that Igarashi's fastball was hitting 96 MPH on the radar gun. And being amazed. Later
