  1. Two other Mets later worked for the Expos. Larry Bearnarth became their pitching coach and Ron Taylor (after he got his medical degree)worked as their team Doctor. Upon further review by the officials (my Canadian baseball fan friends) the original ruling on the field has been overturned. Taylor became the team doctor for the Blue Jays, not the Expos. Reset the game clock. No timeout has been charged. Later
  2. Edgy DC wrote: There's definitely a crisis of confidence we're witnessing. Trust me, I also have trouble scoring at home, so I know whereof I speak. Hmmm. Maybe Edgy has the answer. When the guys are at home with their wives, they're not getting laid as much as they are on the road. And the worse they hit, the less they get. (A Bizarro world Lysistrata) The need doesn't need more hitters. All the guys need is some more nookie. Bring on the Baseball Annies. Later
  3. Could the difference between the hitting numbers at home and on the road be because of the hitting background? I don't have the numbers, but you must have looked at them, Vic. Later
  4. Exactly, respect and hate. It I were Terry today, I'd start the hardest throwing rookie they have, and tell the kid to give Chipper a cup ckeck. Just for old times sake. Later
  5. Instead of hanging a poster of Larry, why dont they just hang him? As for what music they'll play as a tribute, I still nominate my "Chipper's A Country Boy" parody of the John Denver song. Its been posted here before. Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: The main change since we last saw them is that Fredi Gonzalez benched the erratic Dan Uggla last week Yeah, but erratic can mean some good days and some bad days. And Uggla seems to save his best days for the Mets. I expect to see him in the lineup (but I hope not). Great job as always, FK. Later
  7. I voted number three (limit per game), if only to deter any more of those seemingly endless ballgames in which managers tried to see how many players they could get into one game. Later
  8. metirish wrote: The question was a real dick move....basically asking a guy who is super passionate about the game if he has quit....... Have you ever listened to those hosts on WEEI sports talk radio in Boston? I have. And I'd like to punch some of them in the mouth, too. There used to be one guy, who if you wanted to move the discussion to a non-Boston team, he'd hang up on you. Later
  9. Great job as always. I'd be ok to see Ike finish in first place for position players for the rest of his 15-20 year Met career. Later
  10. Wilmer, meet Rafael. You guys will be together at the family table for a while. Later
  11. The Cards recalled RP Victor Marte and SP Shelby Miller and INF Ryan Jackson on Sept 4. Later
  12. His legs were moving too fast to tell when he went around first and second, but he definitely hit/ turned third with his left foot. Later
  13. As my old Army buddies might have said, "The Yankee fans are getting so tight, you couldn't drag a needle out of their ass with a tractor." Later
  14. Welcome to Saint Louis, where the Summer weather is hot, the Budweiser is pedestrian, the steaks at (Stan and) Biggies are still good, and the Arch is, well, archy. The defending World Series Champions are still in second place. When we last saw them, they were in second behind the Pirates in the National League Central. Theyre now behind the Reds, with the Pirates nipping at their heels for a playoff spot. C Yadier (insert your favorite epithet here) Molina is still having a solid year with the bat and the glove. He was leveled in a home plate collision on Tuesday night. Give the Pirate who ran him over a cigar. 1B Righty hitting Allan Craig, has taken over on an almost full time basis. But he has been splitting time recently with another righty hitter, David Freese (who had been at third base). He hasnt played much, but Id like to give some props to young lefty batter Matt Adams, if only because he went to good ol Slippery Rock U. 2B Daniel Descalso has solidified his position as the starter because of his glove. He still hasnt hit much.. SS Rafael (Fecal) Furcal - While the weather has heated up, he had cooled off. Since the last time the Mets saw him, his average had gone down faster than (this ones for you, Fman) a co-ed at a toga party. - more than 60 points. He recently tore something in his elbow and was declared out for the season. No word yet on whether a full time replacement will be named or they will play mix and match. 3B Lefty hitting Matt Carpenter has been playing a lot recently because of his hot bat, pushing David Freese into a platoon role at first. LF Matt Holliday has been hitting well for both power and average. The shudda cudda talk continues.. CF Jon Jay An excellent flyhawk with a decent bat, has come off the DL and is a very good ballplayer. RF Carlos Beltran is still having a good year. The bench is comprised of outfielders Shane Robinson, Erik Komatsu, Adron Chambers and utility guy Skip (pain in the arse) Shumacher. The backup catcher is Tony Cruz. Bryan Anderson was just called up to replace Molina. The starting pitchers are Klye Lhose, Jake Westbrook, Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright, Joe Kelly and lefty Jaimie Garcia. Wainwright had come off TJ surgery and was on a 6-0 with an ERA under 2.00 streak until he gave up six runs in his most recent start. The bullpen guys are righties Mitchell Boggs, Victor Marte, Fernando Salas and lefty Mark Rzepczynski who still scares proofreaders and lefty batters. Jason Motte has been an effective closer. The Cards activated 1B Lance Berkman from the DL and also added infielder Pete Kozma and pitcher Trevor Rosenthal when the rosters expanded.. . 15. And a sweep for the organization tonight. Later
  16. Uke the Wilpons who have toys in the attic. Later
  17. The Yahoo box score shows Niese with 97 pitches through 6, and Kendrick about 2/3 of that. Is Niese getting squoze by the ump? Later
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Can OotP test players for PEDs and suspend them if they are found guilty? Only if the owners can talk somebody else into holding the cup. (Are there owners? Is this like strat or fantasy baseball?) Later
  19. Good news. And based on the young talent that will be moving up the chain, that will be a fun 4 years. Can't wait to see them again when they visit New Britain. Thanks. Later
  20. How did Hall of Famer Bill Dickey feel when they gave his 8 to that "kid" Yogi Berra? He probably didn't think much about it because I'm not sure if the Yankees (or any other team) had begun retiring numbers back then. If I were a rookie, I would consider it an honor to be given the same number as one of the team's all-time greats. I'd think the team had enough confidence to think I would carry on a great tradition. And I'd try to show them that they were right. Later
  21. Now that Shane Victorino has been traded, it will be interesting to see who jumps to the top of our "I'd like to give that annoying Phillie punk a cup check with a sledgehammer" list. Later
  22. Colin Cowherd (ESPN Radio) doesn't say many smart things. But he just played that Scully tape as well as Vin's call of whatsizname's (brain fart) walkoff Series homer. He then said "He's no Suzyn Waldmann". Later
  23. When the game was over, I felt like having a cigarette. Later
