  2. R A's season has been one of the best feel-good sports stories of recent memory. Now its a feel-great story. R A, thank you. Later
  3. Edgy DC wrote: I don't want them sending a counter-offer. I want them locked in a sweaty room making amendments in pen. Ans while they're in there, I'd serve hotdogs, sauerkraut, chili and beer. Then I'd lock the door and windows and tell them they can't get out to a bathroom until a contract extension has been signed by both parties. Later
  4. Didn't he just get traded to Toronto? Oh, wait. Never mind. Later
  5. bmfc1 wrote: Jose's agents didn't ask for a no-trade clause or a clause allowing him to reject certain teams? You are Jose Reyes...you spent the first part of your career in New York City, made a nice name for yourself and parlayed that into a contract that made you one of the wealthiest human beings on the planet, AND gave you easy access to the south beach lifestyle. You are turning 30 next year and are now being shipped to Toronto. In Miami (with its large Latin-American population) you could be king. In Toronto, you will be just another foreign shortstop with the Canadian equivalent of a green card. How do you think he feels? Later
  6. The values of commercial real estate in the New York area have been climbing recently, and that benefits the holdings of Sterling Enterprises. They might have made enough money from this rebound to offset any on-paper losses of their baseball team, and more. (Not figuring in any Madoff plusses and minuses) This is like Ted Turner saying he lost money on the Braves while he was making gazillions from his tv station that carried the games. Its just a question of which pocket is holding the money. "Broke" means they can't pay their rent or heating bills. I don't think the Wilpons are "broke" by any stretch of the imagination. Later
  7. I realize that, but was thinking that a team acquiring a Cy Young winner would be looking to not only improve their team but sell more tickets too. So they might be willing to pay more for that. Later
  8. I know, this falls into the blatantly obvious category, but methinks the Mets are waiting to see if he wins the CY, so they can judge his value for an extension/ trade. Reasonable extension if he doesn't and high return trade if he does. Later
  9. I've heard it said that the two happiest days in a boat owner's life are the day he gets it and the day he gets rid of it. Today was my second Jason Bay happy day. It almost made up for my 5 1/2 hour commute drive home tonight. Later

Edgy DC wrote: Which reminds me of something I noted in the photo I cropped Ike's huggy-huggy shot: Ike --- despite being a big-shot big-leaguer and the son of a big-shot big-leaguer --- is not particular about the class of party he will rock. Drinking from the a plastic cup in the unrenovated kitchen of a grad student group home? Oh, yeah, he's all over that. (Channeling Fman) What's important is not the kind of cup he drinks from, but the size bra cup she wears. Later

    FAN to FM

When ESPNNY radio went to FM, they said it was because the signal didn't reach the far suburbs like WFAN did. I had the opposite, ESPNNY radio came in loud and clear (well, loud and a little static) and the WFAN signal would die about 15 miles south of my house. So I missed the ends of a lot of games while driving home from work. But now, that WFAN FM signal is with me all the way home, so I'll be able to follow my Nets until baseball starts again. Later
  13. Its easier than spelling the answer to "ex-Governer Arnold, who played The Running Man". Later
  14. The Tigers swept the Yanks, then got swept by not even the best team in the NL this year. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this when I see the MFY fans in my office. And, I'm happy for Marco. As for Angel Pagan, he probably doesn't know there isn't another game today. He always was weak on his knowledge of baseball stuff. But I'm happy for him, too. Throughout the Series I was impressed by Bruce Bochy. He'll stick with a relief pitcher who's throwing well, even though "the book" suggests making a change. Several times in the series, he stuck with a reliever, even though an opposite side hitter was up. Later
  15. Ashie62 wrote: This series is more like the World Snooze. The TV ratings have to suck. Fox is going to ask ABC/ESPN is they can borrow Brent Mussberger to shill for them. (Howie 'The Shill" Cosell, as one reporter called him, is no longer available.) Later

  18. Don't know if the rules have changed under the new CBA, but under the old one, if you want to re-sign your own players once they are declared FAs, you can't do it until well into Spring Training (forget the date). Later

  21. Its time to start the WATP season. If you've heard, or thought of, a wildass trade proposal, post it here. With MFY fans in a severe state of whatever happens in a MFY fan's mind, you must have heard a lot of doozies by now. Later

  23. Maybe the Yanks are watching. You don't need a superstar at every position to be a good team. Just good pitching, sound defense and a third baseman who can hit when it counts. (MFS62, stirring the Yankee reporter drink.) Later
  24. I believe San Francisco will win in 6 games. And since Marco Scuttaro won the NLCS MVP, why not a sweep for ex-Mets? I'm predicting Angel Pagan will be the (unlikely) World Series MVP. Later
