Edgy, I don't hate this team. I love this team. When the season started, I looked at all the off season moves that were made to strengthen the bullpen and had a pretty good feeling. My comment about "end of civilization" (part hyperbolic, part comedic) meant that many of those moves would have to have failed if CJ were to have made the team. He's not my whipping buy nor is he symbolic of anything. As for his record, here it is: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nitkoc.01.shtml Later
  2. Well then, how do you feel about the possibility of the Mets bringing him up? Would you predict positive results? Later
  3. CJ Nitkowski is in the Mets system and struck out the side in his one inning of work at Binghamton last night. I'm just waiting for the WFAN-droids to start calling for him to be brought up. When the idea surfaced earlier in the year that CJ, a player who had failed miserably everywhere he has been, might be on the Mets, I predicted the end of civilization as we know it. But that was before I saw the current bullpen. The main problem is that he's a local guy (St.John's) and I fear he would become the darling of the local media. Then, if he's as terrible as I think he would be, He'd be as hard to get rid of as a condo in Florida. I look at the current bullpen I don't see how it could get worse. Then CJ's name is mentioned, and I know it could. Later

He's good. Very, very good. Thanks, Later
  7. He's reached the point that we are no longer concerned with potential and are now concerned with production. Those are the only numbers I care about. Later
  8. I wonder who the "longtime Met" is. Later
  9. Updating a factoid from today's WSJ, the Mets are now 103-85 in games started by pitchers in their 40's. That's in the top 5 or 6 all time. Later
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Looks like Johan to the DL. Looks like Harvey is inevitable. Steve Sommers just mentioned that Harvey is scheduled to pitch for Buffalo tonight, and if he does well, he may be brought up to start either Wednesday or Thursday. (He didn't mention his source for that) Later
  11. For one brief shining moment (no, not Camelot) he had the top OPS among NL shortstops. Later
  12. Rubin has a source saying Quintanilla is going to the Orioles for future considerations. Who says Alderson is afraid to deal? When he can get a nebulous package of ephemera for an asset that's about to expire anyhow, he moves on that shit, baby. Future considerations: Sandy to Baltimore GM: "We'll take Matt Weiters" Baltimore GM: "I'll consider it (3 second pause) I considered it. No." Later

Depends on if you mean as the crow flies or if you have to drive. To drive to that area from DC, you first have to drive about 90 miles to Richmond, then turn East and go about another hour or two. So another 100 miles or so. But the hypotenuse of that triangle might be short enough to upset any territorial protection radius the Nats might have. Later
  14. I hope our A-Rod is the first one to make it to the Hall of Fame. Later
  15. That's going to come as a shock to the folks up in Hartford. They'll be wondering why the pitchers are batting. The area is split between MFY and Sawks fans. Later
  16. McHugh has had some rough starts lately. Later
  17. And let's have some props for Buffalo Val, who won the AAA home run derby yesterday. Later
  18. I saw the all-star game when I was in Aruba a few years ago. There was only one tv station. They only had one commercial - for Aruba tourism. And if you watched the entire game, you saw it over 20 times. Later
  19. To quote Jim Bouton "Vancouver Damn Mountie". And I always like the Havana Sun Kings of the IL. The last major leaguer I remember who played for them was Vic Davalillo. Later
  20. It'd probably tear right off his body right? And for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The "magical force" in one direction to propel the baseball forward would have an opposite force that destroys the pitcher's arm. Later
  21. Ceetar wrote: That's true, someone email Randall and have him do the bio-mechanical write up on what a pitcher's arm would have to look like to do that. It'd probably tear right off his body right? Right. Later
  22. I voted Havana and Vancouver. Later
  23. It would seem that the force necessary to propel the ball at that speed would be greater than what is released in the resultant explosion. I'd have to see the math. Later
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Em, Howie would be the first to tell you there's nothing particularly original about his signoff. It sounded strange coming from another voice. Never heard any other announcer say it. Who else does? Later
  25. Heard the last inning or so on the radio driving home from work. Don't know who the announcer was, but he said "book it". Howie should be calling his lawyer as we speak. Later
