  1. For only a few starts, I voted Hefner. It doesn't upset the 40 man roster as much as re-adding Batista would. But I was looking for a choice that said "anybody but Schwinden".
  2. Another sports story to follow during the break is the never-ending saga of Dwight Howard to the Nets. Also - I saw the headline on Yahoo Sports that Mikkleson (I'm guessing Golfer Phil, not ex-major leaguer Pete) and one of the O'Malley family are looking to buy the Padres. Later
  3. Finally saw it this past weekend on cable. Well worth the wait. Later
  4. Vic Sage wrote: video on prometheus plotholes: http://nerdapproved.com/movies/all-the-plot-holes-and-stupid-moves-from-prometheus-at-once-video/ Yep. I think he got 'em all. Thanks, Later
  5. Yes, you read that right. It is a made-for tv movie brought to us by those masters of schlock the Sci-Fi Channel. But I'm still not sure whether it is an almost perfect spoof or if it was terrible because they were playing it straight. Yes, its the re-named characters of the tv show Jersey Shore fighting sharks. When I say re-named, the best example was the bimbo named Nooki. Good or bad? Tell us. Later
  6. we discussed movie remakes of TV shows here: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/4100/f11_t4147.shtml Thanks, Vic. I forgot about Star Trek II. I wanted to forget about the other Star Trek movies. I have another to add to the list, but don't want to hijack this thread. I'll start a new thread. Later
  7. Which leads me to the question "Has there ever been a movie that was better than the tv show upon which it was based?" I can't recall one, but maybe it is fodder for its own thread. Anyhow, it was the reason I never saw this movie. I thought the tv show was terrible, so why bother? Later

Make believe its a monster movie - pump some more rounds into 'em, just to make sure. Later

Commissioner Bud Selig said that he was fine with the outcome of the process and always trusts the wishes of the fans. Actually, StL OFer David Freese is the voted-in NL choice I can get my heart started again. Later
  10. Hate to break this to you, Reggie, but back in the day, lousy fielding outfielders with a .262 career batting average didn't get into the Hall of Fame without paying the full admission price for a ticket. Count your lucky stars and STFU. Later

Sometimes, when you see "1 guest" on game nights, it is me, because I can't log in from work. (the computer police) But it wasn't me tonight. The boss was there, and I couldn't get to the PC with Internet access. So it might have been Gary. Later
  12. That's better than I would expect from Sherman, who usually wouldn't say anything nice about a Met unless you held a gun to his head. Later
  13. My old pal Shoeless Don the White Sox fan must be very sad tonight. RIP, Mike. Later
  14. But it did explain the only way someone that dumb was able to ascend to the head of a large corporation. Nepotism. Later
  15. Vic Sage wrote: if you didn't like it that much, why'd you give it an "8"? Mis-entered. Couldn't change it. Thought I gave it a 6. And like Monk, I'd probably drop that a point after thinking about it for a day. I did like the answering of questions from #1 about the oversized space travelers. And I liked the earlier versions/ forms of the alien monsters. And the idea of a (SPOILER ALERT!!) sexually transmitted alien was interesting. But I also agree with most of what you wrote. While watching, I also wondered about why they tried to escape from under the falling ship by moving straight instead of sideways. Later
  16. I saw it today. There was so much hype about it being the prequel to Alien that I wanted to see if it could stand on its own. It could only kneel. Dumb stuff for dumb reasons, as Vic and Monk have said. One reason I went was to see the early evolution/ form of the creatures. Ridley has said how they kept evolving when he was interviewed in those "Making of ... " short promos for numers 3 and 4. I found this version of the creatures, and their "delivery systems". kind of interesting. Maybe if I had seen it in 3-D, Charlize would have made it more worthwhile. Later
  17. With each hit he gets, Murphy's defense is looking better and better. If he keeps this up, he could win a Gold Glove. Later
  18. sharpie wrote: Frankie to return? http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/7/3/3134612/k-rod-francisco-rodriguez-mets-rumors Sandy would have a lot of 'splainin' to do if he brought back a sizeable contract like that (without addressing some other needs - like some righthanded hitting help first). Later
  19. Ceetar wrote: lol. I don't know if the La Russa hates Dusty Baker storyline has any legs (have they said anything?), but Cueto did deserve to go. I can believe it because they are exact opposites. LaRussa tends to overthink pitching while Baker underthinks it. Later

I remember when they handed out paper ballots at Shea and at the end of the game, you would see more ballots on the ground and in the aisles than I'd guess were in the ballot boxes. Later
  22. Remember also that the SF fans booed Willie Mays when his team moved out there. This result says as much about their baseball knowledge as it does about their computer skills. Later
  23. Satin has 7 Buffalo homers this year. But I'm not sure if/how well he plays the outfield. I'd look into trade possibilities. Later
