  3. My favorite was the recent several hours long coverage of the Johnny Manzeil workout session for the pro scouts. Later
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: I was wondering the same thing about the whole Jeter/Astros "history" and why that should possibly merit a send-off. Maybe for an encounter so brief the 'stros should just give him a gift basket. At least the Astros had someone smart in their marketing department. They scheduled post game fireworks last night. The season-long fellatiation of El Capitan is scheduled to begin tonight. It would be great if they attracted a small crowd. Later
  5. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Bring up Wilmer Flores, to replace Daniel Murphy, who's on paternity leave? Heard a report that happened. Later
  6. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Farnsworth is definitely... um... [crossout]a choice[/crossout] an irritating arsehole. Fixed that for you. I hope David Wright (who likes everybody) doesn't try to punch him out and break his hand in the process. Later
  7. Edgy MD wrote: It's hard not to think of this as related to pre-trade maneuverings. Left handed pinch hitter, scary left fielder. Could be Duda is on the move. Later
  8. I'd bet his AB walk- up music isn't "The Wall". Later
  9. That's a pretty high ranking for a guy who has made 7748 outs in his career. Later

  12. Lefty Specialist wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: On Mets Hot Stove, Murphy said that the baby's name will be Noah. After Russell Crowe, not after Noah Syndergaard. Fitting that he was born on a rainy day. No wonder he's wearing that yarmulke. Later
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think they do, yes. Flores, perhaps? If they were still in Buffalo, that would probably happen. The Las Vegas to NY flight schedule might make that difficult. Darn it! Later

  15. G-Fafif wrote: Byrdak still a Met at heart, which isn't the worst thing to be. He sounds like with practice he could be a decent analyst. That's what Spring Training (even the last of it) is for. Of the five auditions I heard, C.J. Nitkowski and Scott Graham impressed me most. I could deal with any of these guys who isn't Phillips on those dozen or so dates when Howie or Josh isn't around and not cry HAGIN! Heard CJ on one of the WFAN shows. He was just signed by FOXSports as a baseball anylist (Not sure if it is in studio or in the booth). Knows his stuff, good voice, good sense of humor. He said the biggest problem facing Japanese players coming here is the travel across (three) time zones. He said they don't do that in Japan, and it will take them time to adjust. Never heard that before - good point, from someone who played in Japan. Later
  16. Centerfield wrote: Poor Joe Garagiola. For many years, I made fun of this guy for having nothing to say during those broadcasts. But now I realize that Joe had the sense enough to realize how gold Scully was by himself and anything he said would only take away from the masterpiece that is a Scully broadcast. I picture it as being the equivalent of being told "Hey CF, grab a roller and help Michelangelo paint that chapel. Come on, get a move on." The only difference is that Scully has an audience of millions while he paints his verbal pictures. Later.
  17. Tim Byrdack did the game on radio tonight. Not a bad voice. He used "we" when talking about the Mets, but if this is his first broadcasting gig, I'd rate him a solid B-/C+. Later
  18. Ashie62 wrote: Did Mejia get hurt? Hit on the forearm by a liner. Pobrecito. If he didn't have bad luck, he'd have no luck at all. I hope he's ok. Later
  19. Still time. They'll be coming back from playing the Blue Jays in Montreal, and they'll bring Jose Reyes back with them. They have to leave Farnsworth, because the government won't allow him back into the country. Uh, I have to check my meds. Later
  20. Apparently, I'm not the only one who noticed the tapping of the ball on the glove" http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303779504579463650367088562?mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052702303779504579463650367088562.html Now I know why he does it. Later
  21. One of his games was on TV the other day. When he takes the ball out of his glove, he quickly taps the ball on the back of the glove as part of his delivery. Not sure it is a timing thing, to make sure he has a good grip on the ball, or something else. I don't remember if he did that last year. If it was something recommended to aid his control, he should stop doing it. Later
  22. He pitched the last inning of today's game. He gave up a run on a wild pitch. The camera followed him after the third out and we heard him say "fuck!" LOUD AND CLEAR in a closeup. I hope the kiddies weren't home from school yet. Later
  23. That settles it. You get my vote! Later
  24. metsguyinmichigan wrote: We seem to have a spare one here in New York. Send the MFYs north of the border. You might get my vote to be the next Commissioner of Baseball. One more question. How do you feel about the DH? Later
